howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 So if I lashed something on the Fly and it came second I'd get money back? And if it won I'd be laughing? Tempting. Max of 25 quid I think, but yeah it might not win but I'd be staggered if it didn't finish in the top two. I've got a funny feeling the big name horses and gonna get beat this year! Biggest one is that I don't think Big bucks will win. There's a few races where it looks like there could be a passing of the torch kind of thing, quevega and annie power looks like a hell of a race.

Tom17LCFC Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Heading down on the Tuesday for this. In the best mates enclosure! Absolutely buzzing!! Any other foxestalkers down then?
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Would be surprised if Annie Power goes for the Mares hurdle. Paddy Power have her at 4/6 so maybe they know something we don't, but in reality there's a handful of races they can go for.
Bert Posted 2 March 2014 Author Posted 2 March 2014 Annie Power going for the world hurdle. Get on it. Wouldn't be running in that if they didn't think she could beat big bucks.

I think it's more to do with Ruby wouldn't get off The Fly or Quevega in either the Champion or Mares hurdle. Apart from Annie Power Willie Mullins has no real threat in the World and it was the obvious race to put her in but she's never ran the distance before let alone at Cheltenham up the hill. The World Hurdle is the hardest race to call for me, I just can't look past a small bet on Big Bucks as if he has improved from his last run he will be very hard to beat.

It'll be a great battle that's for sure and I'm buzzing I'll be there to see it. I'll be siding with Annie Power. Like you said it's so hard to call. Pros and cons for both.

Bayfox Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 Anyone know much about any runners in the novices hurdle? Enjoy a flutter but not a studier of the races to be honest. But paddy power are refunding stakes upto 50 quid if your horse in that race finishes 2nd 3rd or 4th so might have a bet if anyone has a tip that stands a chance of going close.

Ruby Walsh is on Vautour, Irving looks good too, id be massively surprised if they're not both in the top four.
General Smuts Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 What was that twitter account that predicted loads of winners a few years ago? Is there an equivalent this year?
Maybes Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 What was that twitter account that predicted loads of winners a few years ago? Is there an equivalent this year? Get your tips out.
Tom17LCFC Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 Get your tips out. Terrible, terrible account. TJ tips is the way forward!
ScouseFox Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 Terrible, terrible account. TJ tips is the way forward! Are gyto shit? I follow them on twitter but rarely follow their tips but they post in capitals a lot which i assume means a lot of winners and i've just been on their website and that claims that since Jan 1st (2 months) they're over 500 pts up? So even if you were tentative and went for very low stakes like 50p a point you'd be over 250 quid up in 2 months? Unless they're just making their totals up... Dunno why people follow tips religiously, part of the fun is choosing your own, yeah get a bit of info off a good tipster and maybe you research something more but winning/losing off your own back is what it's all about really, no? I'll see what tj tips are all about (assuming you play a part in it haha).
Bert Posted 4 March 2014 Author Posted 4 March 2014 I've stopped following GYTO now they've become one of the bookies affiliates. Some of the tips are put up by the bookies full well knowing they've got little chance but in the hope because they've been "tipped" people will back them. Much prefer choosing my own - surely that's part of the fun.

Much prefer choosing my own - surely that's part of the fun. Well yeah, a lot of people are suckered in by enhanced odds or special offers from all bookies but the fact they are being enhanced should tell most sensible people all they need to know. Occasionally there will be a great offer (PP refunding top 4 in the Supreme seems a genuinely good offer) but usually an enhanced price on a goalscorer or an industry best offer on United to beat someone or whoever it may be has been enhanced because the bookies and all their boffins are pretty sure it won't win. Reading a bit of the RP, chatting to a few mates and a few chaps in the bookies and then going for a pick based on whatever you think is the fun of it, happy days if you win and you always feel a bit pissed off it you lose but at least you only blame yourself or whatever friend gave you their "banker" haha. Not some dodgy website run by people who may well be benefitting from your loss.

I think the points system is manipulated by them to try and show themselves in profit. haha yeah me and my mate started it as a bit of fun and ended up with 700+ followers. Agree with you though, no fun just taking someone else's advice. Whole point is picking your own, be it 'cause of the colour, the name, the form or whatever.
Matt Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 Do not get me started on Get Your Tips Out - Yes it was my choice to place the bets but I wiped out my account following that cunt after everyone raved about him, I followed him and lost, though ah well i'll keep following, everyone's raving about him, it's just a bad patch, it'll turn soon, it never turned. Fuming. Erm, anyway, I read earlier My Tent Or Yours has had a scare, but is still expected to run, had a small puncture wound on the sole. Just something to bare in mind, Do like My Tent or Yours though, class horse, will probably still have a flutter on him, perhaps just smaller stake with this in mind - I need to see the field first aswell.

Not some dodgy website run by people who may well be benefitting from your loss. Yeah this exactly it for me, obviously I want to win, but i'd rather go off my own back and only have myself to blame, if I was following someone (Which i've been sucked into a few times) and they are shit i'd be more pissed off than I would if it was my own choice and lost. I have followed these ''tipper's'' before because if successful then happy days but almost all ''tipper's'' i've come across are poor and just wind me up. Don't think i've seen one successful ''tipper'' yet, only the odd professional in papers, e.t.c, even then though they're not that good.
ScouseFox Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 Agreed. I sometimes see a tip, whether it be from someone who claims to be a tipster on Twitter or whatever or even just someone on here in the betting thread says they've got a feeling or heard word for so and so but I'd never just walk into a bookies and throw £20 on the nose based on that. Might consider that horse/team/selection based on what I see but then have my own read up and thoughts and if i'm not too keen or I speak to someone else who isn't i'd probably give it a miss unless I felt it'd win as well as whoever "tipped" it. Throughout Cheltenham this thread will be full of people sticking shouts in here and I might back one or two if I had a feeling one might win and loads on here backed up my thoughts, but I doubt anything said on here would genuinely change my mind from what I thought originally, whether that be a good or bad thing .
GingerrrFox Posted 4 March 2014 Posted 4 March 2014 I always say stay away from "Tipsters" the biggest example of this is last Cheltenham I was all over The New One all the way up to the festival and then a news story came out about a health scare in the yard and all the tipsters were raving about Pont Alexandre. I ended up shying away from the race and The New One drifted massively on the day and he ended up routing the race. Was so gutted simply because I didn't follow my gut. Granted he originally was favourite but you catch my drift.

Used to get the odd good tip from a good friends old man (Forpadydeplasterer, Somersby and Mon Mome to name a few) but the bloke he knew passed away. 6 days to go and I don't think I've ever been as excited about this than anything else in my adult life (granted I've had a bad 18 months but still) so I'm just hoping it'll live up to the expectation. Looking forward to when the final declarations are made because then you can start going through the cards and picking your winners!
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Would be useful if maybe somebody could put together all the different Bookie offers for each race closer to the time. i.e Paddy Power money back 2nd, 3rd & 4th in Supreme Novice, Ladbrokes money back if Hurricane Fly comes 1st or 2nd etc.
