dorsetboy Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 team 1 .....................................keller............................. kamaark----------elliot-------------walsh--------- taggart izzet............savage...............lennon...............guppy heskey-----------claridge team 2 PRESENT TEAM i think it would be close but i think that the old midfield would have had the edge and sneaked a 2-1 win savage versus morgan would have been a battle though
Fox92 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I think these types of debates are always tough, generally because team one performed and succeeded at the highest level.
lcfcliam Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Am I the only one who expected to see two attractive females in this thread?
Bayfox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Pointless argument as our best sides under o'neill played 532. so. Flowers/keller Grayson/kamaark Guppy Walsh Elliot taggart Muzzy Lennon Savage/parker Heskey Claridge/marshall/cottee or collymore Would still under o'neills management beat the current side.
Mark_w Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I think these types of debates are always tough, generally because team one performed and succeeded at the highest level. When Fox92 doesn't outright state that the older team is better, you know something special is happening.
Guest Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 if the first played the 5-3-2 formation we actually played at the time, it would win. we were a team on the edge of european qualification season after season. we are now a team winning the championship, it's not comparable. we have no midfielders as good as izzet, no forward as good as heskey and the defence then was stronger than the defence now.

Bluearmy 316 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 The current team would do well against the old team. Vardy dyer and de laat would cause the old defence lots of problems with their pace. James and drinkwater have the potential to be as good as izzet and Lennon. Wood nugent and vardy would score more than heskey and all 3 strikers are better than claridge. Kasper is as good as Keller if not better but flowers is the best keeper. Knockaert would cause guppy all kinds of trouble at left wing back. The current team are miles ahead in the fitness steaks.
dmayne7 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I only came to the thread for the irony of the title; Over 20 and 'lol' should never go in the same sentence!
dmayne7 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 When Fox92 doesn't outright state that the older team is better, you know something special is happening. Get out of this thread young man!
Vlad the Fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Tough one. I personally feel the present team play better football, but O'Neill's where very good and performed very well in the premier league. Looking at the names on paper I'd say O'Neill's but I have the knowledge of what followed. O'Neill only had about half a season and had a lot of catching up to do once he turned the squad around, had he had a full season with that team we would have probably smashed the league and gone up as easy champions. We'll never know.
Salieri Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Possibly the best performance I ever saw from an O'Neill side was when we destroyed Sunderland 5-2, shortly before things changed dramatically for the worse. That team, I believe, is on a different level to our current line up. Having said that, there is huge potential with what we have at our disposal now and if we keep everyone together and the Thais continue to back us then there's no reason why the ghost of O'Neill can't be laid to rest and his achievements surpassed. All ifs and buts at the moment but the future looks very bright.
foxer Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I've been longing for the day that we could even have this debate. Team 1 was awesome and we achieved so so much. I remember my dad telling me to enjoy it while I can because this isn't the Leicester he'd grown up with. I thought he was mad at the time! Started going to games in 97 and I was spoilt rotten looking back. But I've got that same feeling stirring and I think we've got the right manager and squad to establish ourselves in the prem like we did back then. 2 maybe 3 quality signings and we'd do them. But not quite yet.

Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I actually think the present team would win, purely because football has changed and is played at an even faster pace and players are fitter
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I loved that team, but this current set up has such pace which is always hard to deal with. Impossible to answer, but the old boys midfield was the best I remember in a city line up.
suffolk fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Kaamark would man mark Vardy and he wouldn't get a kick! Aka Juninho League Cup final Wembley.
suffolk fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I actually think the present team would win, purely because football has changed and is played at an even faster pace and players are fitter Wrong football has changed but no way would the present team win....sorry
Bayfox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Wrong football has changed but no way would the present team win....sorry Correct. And for all my love for both teams. The 3 centre backs from mons team would murder the current crop at set pieces. Just a fact.
Istilllovefilbert Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Taggart left back? Knocky would destroy him. Yeah but you know Gerry's gonna get ya!
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I love how people claim their opinions as being fact
foxer Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 We've had this debate about 5 times already this season Fantastic was it settled? Just adding my thougts to proceedings
Mickey O'Neil Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I think Pearson would win. They were good...we are better!
