Captain... Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Is fair play coming back to football? For all the haters who think football is overrun with players taking dives and feigning serious injury to get a penalty, take heed. With a 2-0 advantage late in the second half, SV Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga were awarded a penalty when Aaron Hunt took a tumble in the Nuremberg penalty area. Hunt, who only tripped on the turf, told the referee as much and the referee reversed his decision. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1985944-fair-play-wins-as-werder-bremens-aaron-hunt-overrules-favourable-decision?utm_source=outbrain.com&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=uk-swagger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TPjx1DMaEw Any more examples of Fairplay out there?
Corky Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 We declare at three goals in matches now to stop further humiliation.
Super_horns Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Would he have done the same if WB had been losing?
Captain... Posted 20 March 2014 Author Posted 20 March 2014 Would he have done the same if WB had been losing? Thought the same, but was trying not to be cynical...
ScouseFox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 it should be a rule that if you try to dive and do it THAT badly you should tell the ref you dived and reverse the decision.
Guest MattP Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Would he have done the same if WB had been losing? Sadly the first thing I thought as well. Fair play to him though, it's a start.
Donut Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Di Canio's gesture at Everton will be my overriding memory of fair play, refusing to put the ball into an empty net because the keeper had got a serious injury.
purpleronnie Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Seems odd that someone is praised for diving because he admitted it, how about not diving in the first place?

RobHawk Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Yeah if you look his boot just gets caught in the ground and it takes him down. He gets up as normal and then looks surprised the ref gave a pen. Like others say it's a start
Dan Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 It's not the start at all. Fair play to Hunt (and Kiyotake earlier on) for what they did as it is rare to see nowadays, but it's two one-off incidents against about thirty acts of simulation per game. In the bigger picture this means nothing.

Agree with that, but maybe if we started highlighting these things more, people might catch on that it is what the fans want to see, and not dirty, snide spoiling tactics.
Bert Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 What's the point of anyone doing anything like this if everyone is just going to say "would he have done this, that or the other" Fans are part of the problem. Nothing is ever good enough for some.
