Smallest away following you've been part of

Most of us who have followed Leicester away at any point in our lives will recollect those famous games where we took a huge away support with us. 

 

Orient away in 1980, Fulham in '83, Notts County in the ZDS Cup in '92 when we outnumbered the home fans, Watord in '96. Those matches where we packed out the away end and seemed to have pockets of fans in all the other parts of the ground too.

 

But what's the smallest away following you've been a part of. The games where only the most loyal or the saddest have turned up.

 

For me it has to be Plymouth away in a midweek Div 2 fixture in October 1989. The dark days of the David Pleat era. We never won away under Pleat so the result was a foregone conclusion. We duly lost 3-1 in a terrible performance. The match was so bad that I did a head count of the supporters in the away end. I may have missed a couple of stragglers taking a pee or buying a burger, but there weren't more than 50 of us there that night.

 

I was only there myself because I was a student at Exeter University at the time and Plymouth was only a 40 minute trip on the train. The rest wouldn't have got home until well after midnight.

I thought Hartlepool away on a Tuesday night in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy was going to be a trip for the diehards but we took 400.

Southampton Away when we won 2-0 couple of years back. Around 600 there.

 

Only went cuz my mate was at uni there. Still up there with my favourite away games i've been to.

I went to Ipswich around 74 in a car load of 5, plus another one in convoy. I swear there was less than 30 of us in the away section. Funnily enough it was a fantastic day and we got a point. Siege mentality perhaps? (Everyone else were serious hardcore)

bristol rovers at tranmere away a few years ago on a tuesday night when they were in the relegation zone. think it was 111 or something. they won 1-0. it was fúcking freezing.

Probably Middlesbrough away in 2009. Wet and cold Tuesday night. Looked like a boring nil nil until Llyod scored a winner with a few minutes left.

I might have been to that one, I know my first ever away game was Ipswich away 1-1. Went in the away end though, was a coach load though from Humberstone Gate.

Went to Watford the day they were filming footballs hardest away days with the feature on Jobber. Game finished 2-2 and the away attendance was around 300

Would have been one of the old Anglo Italian cup games in the 90's.

Can't remember but couldn't have been more than 100 there.

Newcastle away Italian cup around 20 of us early 80s

I suspect you must mean the early 90s, but I was wondering about those Anglo-Italian Cup matches of that era. I never went to any away matches in that competition but I went to all the home ones.

 

We played Grimsby, WBA and Peterborough United in the Anglo-Italian Cup!!! Work that one out. Somehow we never got drawn against AC Milan or Juventus.

We never would have either. It was Serie B teams. Notts County and Port Vale I vividly remember playing the likes of Bari and Ancona at Wembley.

I've been in an away end of 6 before. Me and a mate thought it'd be a good idea to go watch Boston Utd vs Leigh RMI, there were 6 people in the Leigh end. Me, my mate, two other lads from Skeg that had the same ridiculous idea that we had and two genuine Leigh fans. About 60 minutes into the game I plucked up the courage to ask the two genuine Leigh fans where Leigh actually was...

Rob1742 I think we all were! I just remember be right in the middle of their fans behind the goal. It was one of my first awaydays with my mates instead of my dad, and we could have gone in the wrong end. Great experience, though I wouldn't do it at many grounds

Pretty sure there were less than ten CIty fans at Wolves away in the Mclintock year. 1977? Shockingly bad season. I stood with the Bath City fan at Yo-evil in about 1997!

I was there at that game with Plymouth too. I remember being pleased with a point that day. For most fans, Plymouth is a ''bucket list'' ground. You go there once in your lifetime and never return.

Good point about the bucket list. At Hartlepool in L1 there were a good few of us but we sang 'We'll never play you again'. I took the opportunity of going to Carlisle, Cheltenham and Hereford in that season aswell.
