Tielemans63 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Thats what I've been thinking.. Which leaves us with 2 strikers... 1 if nugent doesnt agree a contract.. Sorry mate, didn't read your post properly- I agree! He doesn't look that happy this season let alone if we bring in reinforcements. I get the feeling he sees himself as a first choice which is fair enough.
TJB-fox Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Clever striker is Macheda I'd take him. Anyone thought about loaning Wood out? Still a young lad and would do him good getting regular championship football week in week out

Still a young lad and would do him good getting regular championship football week in week out I think if we do keep onto wood, He needs to be loaned out... Otherwise he may end up another "Could have been" That leicester city ruined.. Don't think he will want another season on the bench especially as he has generally changed games whenever he's come on

It's brilliant to see him understand why he's not been getting gametime and looks like the type of player you want in the dressing room, Just don't wanna see him end up like many of our promising players!
ToeKneeHandCock Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Nugent has not signed a contract yet. GTF will go, Phillips will go. Waghorn has gone. Isn't he 2 appearances from an automatic extension?
cityfanlee23 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Isn't he 2 appearances from an automatic extension? Not sure how many it is... but he wont get 2 appearances in the next 4, it will be 1 short I'm afraid. Very surprised if we pay another seasons wages to him in the premier league
Out Foxed Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 he has failed over and over again. the guy has been at a number of clubs and never looked like cementing his place.
Guest Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I'd take him better than GTF and Wood even on present form.

Very surprised if we pay another seasons wages to him in the premier league Pretty sure it's 20, he's currently on 18. He's played in our last 5 games too so I'd be very surprised if he doesn't make at least the 2 appearances required to trigger the extension.
WhispyWizard Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Better scoring ratio than McCormack at a worse club, not much worse, they are both terrible. 1 year of promise ... would be a risk, even if it is a free risk. If Walshy and Pearson are willing to stick their necks out for him, like they did with Vardy, then i'd be happy with this.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Seems exactly like a Pearson signing. Lad who has struggled to break into uniteds first team, been out on loan a few times and looked okay, remind you of any of our players? (James, De Laet, Drinkwater.) I'm sure most were underwhelmed when we signed those 3 and they have been 3 of our best and most consistent players in the last 2 years.
Dan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I've got to admit I'm struggling to see where Wood fits next season. I want it to work for him but I just cannot see it happening unless he has a miraculous change in form like Vardy. He's extremely limited. Step forward Jelle Vossen.
Pegosteve Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I'd take him but we also need someone with genuine premiership/top flight experience.
Robin JD Popley Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I wouldn't mind signing Macheda as I think he is a Nigel type player; however, I tend to agree with everyone about still needing a 20+ or equalivent style striker. I know we have scored many more than we have done in previous seasons, but, we aren't up against the likes of Kompany yet. I think Vardy will create issues in the Premiership and I have always been a fan of Nuge and Wood but we do need someone who has that extra bit of class. That is why I am so impressed by the looks of that Vietto lad. That said, still think we'd be missing a trick in not looking at someone who has either played in the Premiership before or has played in a similar standard league in Europe. Personally think there are some great prospects in Germany: a country we have yet to really ever buy players from - bar Freund (and he was at the end of his career when he joined us).

Mach is probably a better option. Would be a good squad addition but, as others have said, not the starting striker I think we quite urgently need to acquire.

Vietto has no premiership experience and has only scored 19 goals in 61 games, He does look good but that's based on youtube videos... plenty of moderate players could look bad in that league, I'd prefer vossen personally
Robin JD Popley Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Oh, don't get me wrong mate, he has yet to really prove his worth but I remember seeing Matty Fryatt playing in an u15 tournament for England the summer before we signed him and he was one person I said would be worth going for: also on a limited viewing. But, yes, it is essential we sign someone who has experience. Look at what signing Super Kev has done for our front line's confidence - something I always thought he would do.

I don't see who is an effective partner for him. He isn't quick, he isn't a target man, he isn't particularly creative. He's a very limited player, who can finish. The only chance of succeeding with him is playing a side around him that creates a lot of chances for him - but why would we do that when we'd be limiting our other players? I don't want to sound like I have an agenda because he's not really done loads wrong, he just doesn't seem good enough. Vossen is very much an unknown quantity and it was tongue in cheek, but I can see him being the kind of forward we go for. Highly rated, on the continent and consequently better value than the English equivalent.

Aguero got 23 in 54 there which is a better record, but not exactly a goal a game.

conLAD logan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Macheda can be another man utd that proves a point at another club and as he's free to go on a free I think he's a gamble worth taking especially if a few of our strikers leave. We'll still need another one mind but it's a start!
Finnegan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Jelle Vossen lol!!! Some of you need to be banned from football manager.
