The club are planning how they're going to spend all the extra income but don't want to go overboard and store up problems for the future like some other clubs have done and still do to this day. Birmingham City have struggled without the Premier League income stream but spending little money or not money at all doesn't always have to end poorly. The loan of Federico Macheda has worked out really well and been his best period for some time, perhaps in his whole career. The 22 year old has scored 4 goals in his last 3 games. Previous loan spells away from Manchester United with Sampdoria, QPR, Stuttgart and Doncaster didn't work anywhere near as well as his current situation and Macheda has scored more goals for Birmingham than he did for all those clubs combined. His Manchester United contract runs out in the summer and, according to TMW in Italy, Leicester City are looking to sign him and have already made contact with his agents. TMW are probably trustworthy on this given that Macheda's agent and the player himself often speak to the Italian outlet, it doesn't take a detective to work out where this information has come from. A chance to make it with a Premier League club will be welcome for Macheda and, on a free transfer, he's a gamble Leicester are ready to take. Birmingham, who would like to keep the player, can't really compete with that.
Happy Fox Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Cannot believe that he is only 22!, seems like he has been on the scenes for an eternity. His finishing this season has impressed me and he is that raw talent that NP can nurture bring him in I say, as a free agent if it doesn't work out we can move him on.

Living off that one goal against Villa at age 16, been rotting in the Manchester United reserves ever since, with the odd loan spell here and there... Still only 22, so he could come good if given enough playing time. Worth a punt?

Whilst the rumour may hold water for all I know, the translation and subsequent editing of this document has been written by a child. Could be a Pearson esque O'Neil type player though - 22 and much to prove.
teblin Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Decent scoring record in a struggling Brum side! 9 goals in 13.
Nick Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Good article on him here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/10680593/Federico-Macheda-Sir-Alex-Ferguson-believed-in-me-but-David-Moyes-doesnt.-But-I-will-get-career-back-on-track.html
cityfanlee23 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Would take him like a shot. Wouldn't cost much, Young, good eye for goal, good with his head, strong hold up play if needed but good on the ball.. All round striker, one I rate potentially higher than mccormack.
Unabomber Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 This would be worthwhile imo especially considering he is out of contract.
kingcarr21 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Would be quite happy to give him a go. Wouldnt command a massive wage and would like to prove a point in the prem.
Ric Flair Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Always thought he was destined to be a middle to top European striker like Rossi who came through United's ranks. I'd take a punt on him on a free transfer
foxoffderby Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Im a fan young and free and has bags of potential.
lgfualol Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Definitely on a free. I can imagine he'd go out on loan if he isnt doing so good yet. I imagine he'd just be happy someone is paying him.
cityfanlee23 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Sadly though, If he came in, I could seriously see wood going... But to be honest I prefer Big Mach to woody Think he is better in the air, quite strong and a good finisher
Dan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Can't argue with his record this season. Was thinking about this the other day actually. However I'm not sure. Think we could possibly be aiming higher.
notnow john Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 No, we cannot afford to pad the squad out with "potential". Any players we bring In should be better than than our current players. It's the only way to improve the squad to a standard that will be able to compete.

Agree to an extent, However to say machedas potential is not greater than that of GTF and Phillips, And after selling waghorn? He's a free transfer and potentially better than we have... Nugent has not signed a contract yet, phillips will leave, GTF will leave... We will no doubt sign a striker, And I'm beginning to think Wood will be sold, Sign a free macheda and a decent striker. Nugent (If he gets a contract) Vardy Macheda Wood (Or a new striker as I suspect he will be sold, no reason just have that gut feeling)
Dan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 An attack of Nugent, Vardy, Wood & Macheda wouldn't be good enough.
kingfox Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 An attack of Nugent, Vardy, Wood & Macheda wouldn't be good enough. This
cityfanlee23 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 An attack of Nugent, Vardy, Wood & Macheda wouldn't be good enough. Nugent has not signed a contract yet. GTF will go, Phillips will go. Waghorn has gone. Again no reason why but I think wood is on his way out... Would only leave Nugent, Vardy, and possibly wood... I'd take macheda on a free based on potential... and we need a better striker than all of our currents anyway I'm not saying he's the end to our striking worries, but on a free transfer, is he worth missing out on? I'm not sure he's worth leaving.
Tielemans63 Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I've got a feeling Wood will leave. Nothing to base that on, I just think if we bring in one or two very good strikers then he won't be interested in waiting for his opportunity.

Which leaves us with 2 strikers... 1 if nugent doesnt agree a contract..
