Mike Oxlong Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Bollox. I was banking on making some bunce by Facetiming Prince William whilst he was using his i-pad to crack one off and then selling the story and pics to The Sun.
Jon the Hat Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 If it doesn't have much influence why the need for secrecy? I would like to know what Charles is lobbying the government for, and anyone else lobbying the government, it is in the public interest and could even gain more support. Personally I would like to see the royal family get more involved in the politics of this land rather than just reading out pre-prepared statements from the Government. Likewise I think it is in the public interest to know what our tax payers money is being spent on, and it should be open to scrutiny. I don't think we should be privy to all official correspondence, but I don't see why they should be exempt when all other public funded bodies are open for scrutiny. I was adressing the influence concern - no doubt both the Queen and Charlie ask questions and express opinions on a wide range of issues. Is it helpful to our nation that the world know what these conversations are about? Seems like something that should be confidential for a good 50 years to me.

I think if they are expressly lobbying for something, then I think it should be known, I think that about all powerful people lobbying the government it should be transparent and open to scrutiny.
DennisNedry Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 The Monarchy make more money for this country than they take.

Such as what though? We worry about lobbying becuase people use i to further their own interests over those of the nation. Do we have that concern with our Moncarch? Surely one of the benefits of a Monarch as head of state is their interests are fully aligned with those of the nation.

I think if Charles is lobbying the Government to pursue renewable energy sources and greener solutions, he is a bit of a tree hugger and opposes nuclear power and GM foods, then I think it is only right and fair that this is known by the public and by other lobbyists such as nuclear power lobby groups. Whilst I agree with Charles and support renewable energy sources I think that if the future King of England is putting pressure on the government to not build nuclear power stations then it should be known.

I would consider that clear and well known though, wouldn't you? Again I dont see that reading the letters would change much here. More to lose than to gain in my view.
sphericalfox Posted 14 July 2014 Author Posted 14 July 2014 I'd like to know more and have revealed the royal who has been implicated in the paedo ring back in the 70/80's. But I guess if even if it has a human interest story about it, it'll remain a secret?
jonthefox Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 They should have done this sooner. Looks like Kate's up the duff again. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/kate-middleton-pregnant-prince-william-sparks-speculation-second-royal-baby-1444556

More to lose than to gain in my view. His views are clear but his activities aren't. Is he using his position to try and influence policy and if so in what way. I'm not saying we should have complete disclosure, and of course certain things should remain secret, but I think we should know if and when unelected officials are influencing policy.

If the Queen or another Royal expressed concerns about austerity in Britain and the rising number of working families struggling to cope then I do not think they should be gagged.

Vote UKIP Constitutional Monarchy, best form of governance in the world. The Queen has a special relationship with the Prime Minister, the senior political figure in the British Government, regardless of their political party. Although she is a constitutional monarch who remains politically neutral, The Queen retains the ability to give a regular audience to a Prime Minister during his or her term of office, and plays a role in the mechanics of calling a general election. The Queen gives a weekly audience to the Prime Minister at which she has a right and a duty to express her views on Government matters. If either The Queen or the Prime Minister are not available to meet, then they will speak by telephone. These meetings, as with all communications between The Queen and her Government, remain strictly confidential. Having expressed her views, The Queen abides by the advice of her ministers. http://www.royal.gov.uk/MonarchUK/QueenandGovernment/QueenandPrimeMinister.aspx God save the Queen.
