Donut Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I'm pretty confident most of the forum knows I'm sat here with some terribly massive shit eating grin when claiming Wales are officially better than England. It's obvious cheap trolling and a bit of banter about a hundred years in the making. Anyone getting their pants in a twist over that needs words. As for the more serious posts, it's pretty obvious that this is a massive moment for Welsh football. It's also fairly obvious that this is a very good (by our standards) Welsh team that's gotten where it has on merit. We're very well organised, we've got two undoubtedly world class match winners and a team around them made up largely of solid premier league quality players. Nobody in Wales thinks we're going to win the thing but equally we're quite obviously no worse than countless other sides who qualify for plenty of tournaments and nobody bats an eyelid. On paper we're no worse than Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Poland, Ukraine, Ireland, Bosnia, Serbia or any other of scores of countries that frequently make up the group stages of major finals with no real chance of winning the thing. The difference is that since Sparky we've had management with no organisational or motivational skills and no relationship with the players. Toahack almost never had his best players out. This is the first campaign in my lifetime where we've had consistent selection, not just in our crap players but also in the better ones turning up every game and putting a shift in. And lo and behold we've qualified pretty comfortably. I've absolutely no issue with Scouse taking the piss and calling Wales a poverty nation, if he's hoping I'm going to snap and get angry with him then he's going to be disappointed but mostly I just take it as a bit of banter, that's fine. But if anyone wants to sit here and seriously claim that Wales don't deserve to be there next year or to play down the occasion then frankly they're just making themselves look bitter that someone other than England are in the headlines. In which case, speaking on behalf of all Scots, Welsh and Irish fans... welcome to our world. Would have to say youre worse than those teams highlighted.
Finnegan Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Oh and just to add, I quoted Lofty there but I'm not pointing just at him and saying that's what he thinks of Wales, I'm just stating where I stand (before I go back to calling you all shit and pointing at the rankings.)
The Horse's Mouth Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 they're worse than Serbia on paper, but in reality are better
Finnegan Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Would have to say youre worse than those teams highlighted. On paper? Get out. That Czech side is absolutely garbage individually. I'm well aware football isn't played on paper but that's essentially my point. If you look at the established premier league personnel in our best eleven, there's a very strong argument that we've woefully underperformed for years.
Grandad. Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 fair play to Wales, seriously mean that. hope they're in our group and we pan them but them being in France next summer gives it some spice! Ashley Williams is ****ing garbage though, still don't know why people rate him. I just can't be bothered reading the idiots (not you Fin) trying to tell me someone is better than other footballers when he clearly isn't, then trying to use Liverpool as an argument, come on mate even you can see that is daft? Especially with me.. I do stand by what I've said in regards as this tournament being too easy to qualify for. Granted Wales exceeded expectations and qualified automatically, fair play but surely looking back to the start of this campaign you would expecting to have got the play off spot?
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Are you seriously as stupid as I imagine you to be? Look at my first post since last night and see if I have an issue with them, remember the rant I had about England not having the passion the Welsh have? No, but I did. I am happy for them, fair play. Just don't come and tell me their players are better than they are and better than players for England because they're not. Simple as that! Try and spin my words and use it so I'm having a constant dig at Wales, I'm just saying they aren't as good as some on here have made out and their players are very very average apart from the exceptional two who would get in most international sides in the world. Ashley Williams is an average Premier League centre back, nothing more nothing less. Seriously block me from reading my posts, you don't agree with anything I post and you reply to pretty much everything I say, so save yourself the hassle and making yourself look ridiculously stupid. No, I didn't see you post about the Welsh spirit. But claiming they're only there because of Bale and Ramsey makes you look like a bitter plonker. As for Williams he's certainly not an average Premier League player. Maybe simply in terms of footballing ability but you're thicker than I imagined if you think that's all that matters for a centre half. His leadership, positioning, physicality and brain are Champions League standard IMO.

Considering basically all of their goals have been scored by, or assisted by Bale, i think you can legitimately say that Bale has carried the team. But anyway this thread is starting to go downhill.
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 When he played for us he was a kid, and who cares about a petty celebration? Hate a player over the way he celebrated a goal? do me a favour Hate a player who came in and didn't give any effort whatsoever and then he had the gall to shush us after a poxy deflected goal? Will do.
Donut Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Hate a player who came in and didn't give any effort whatsoever and then he had the gall to shush us after a poxy deflected goal? Will do. Well hes obviously a totally different player now, and in all likelihood will be leading the line for England or be a major part of the set up for probably 10-12 years, so I think its best you should get over it really. Maybe you should ask why we got so little out of him when Spurs could get a lot out of him. That would be a question i would be asking. No doubt he was next to useless when he came here. Fine. Hate is a strong word though.

I'm not knocking them for that but that is what's happened, their superstar got them the points to qualify. Cyprus away, Andorra away and Belgium at home, 9 points that Bale won, not the side. So am I really a plonker, or can I see and understand things you can't? Go through their campaign and ask yourself would Wales have qualified without Gareth Bale? I'm not even going to reply to that shit about Williams. The bloke is in his 5th season in the Premier League and not one Champions League club has tried to officially sign him, just rumours. Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United have played players like Nastastic, Lovren, Evans, Gabriel, Monreal, Skrtel and other dross over potentially signing Ashley Williams. Stop trying to sound like a manager and just accept he is just an average 31 year old Premier League defender. Bollocks, I did reply. Hopefully it will make you understand a bit better now though, saying that I doubt it..

Granted Wales exceeded expectations and qualified automatically, fair play but surely looking back to the start of this campaign you would expecting to have got the play off spot? Actually if you read page one of this thread, I backed us to come second in the group and offered MattP a donation bet that we'd qualify automatically. Seriously, our best side on paper is: Prem, Champ, Prem, Prem, Prem, Prem, Prem, Prem, Arsenal, Champ, Real Madrid Up against what? Cyprus? Israel? It's not really delusional to expect us to be better than them, it's pretty fair. People seriously over egg the quality of international football. Even the established teams are largely full of journeymen players playing for crap mid table clubs in Holland or France or Italy, teams you'd expect Leicester to hammer. That's what gets me so frustrated about England fans claiming Vardy isn't good enough for international football. He's the top scorer in the premier league but people think he can't run rings around Austria or Montenegro or the like?

Exactly, you predicted it, qualifying for this tournament is so easy and like I said a few posts ago the tournament quality will be so weak!! Especially compared to previous ones.. So qualifying was no great achievement and I'm not knocking it. Vardy is a different debate for me, one I won't get into and risk getting banned for. One thing I will say is, I'm glad he's banging the goals in for his club and doing the business for you, but he really isn't England class but then again none of the others have been recently. Had his chance though has Vardy and that will probably be it I'm afraid, we all know what Hodgson is like with his selection policy. Vardy could score another 5 goals before the November fixtures but if everyone is fit you would still expect Hodgson to pick Rooney, Sturridge, Kane, Welbeck and Walcott as his five strikers if ALL 100%.
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Considering basically all of their goals have been scored by, or assisted by Bale, i think you can legitimately say that Bale has carried the team. But anyway this thread is starting to go downhill. Can you? Does that mean that Vardy carries us? He's scored or assisted more than anyone in the Premier League this season. Put Bale in a very poor side and he doesn't shine nearly as much. Wales might not be full or world beaters, but at least they're grounded enough to realise their strengths, play to them and have an exceptional work ethic to make it all possible. As for Grandad's opinion on Williams... looks like he's one of those people who think you have to play for a big club to be any good. He's certainly not average. Anyone who has ever played the game can see that. He's played as much of a part in Wales' qualification as anyone.

You put some one average in a good team, theyre going to stand out as being not good enough. Thats the Liverpool situation right now. Ashley Williams is alright i agree, but I wouldnt overplay his talent

Grandad. Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Played centre half for 12 years, brilliant. You know a centre half when you see one, good job people aren't given jobs in football off the back of your glittering career. Absolute idiot. Ashley Williams is not better than Gary Cahill, John Stones or Chris Smalling, it is as simple as that. Usually people would have moaned at me for arguing with you, but they're not. Surely everyone can see how stupid you are! Imagine thinking you're a good judge of centre half because you played as one for 12 years lol

You've still provided no argument for Cahill other than he plays for Chelsea, who have been found out big time this season. I can see why you have the reputation as a hateful name-calling arrogant poster.
Jimothy Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 What a charmer Grandad is. Just a reminder of when he said this. Posted 27 September 2015 - 10:48 PM Honest people like myself, Scouse and Unabomber are banned for laughable comments and piss taking, AKCJ, Tincy, GingerrrFox, WymeswoldFox and many others are dickheads 24/7 and nothing, I literally can't come on here without one of these having a pop. Honest poster, laughable comment, piss taking. I wouldn't call any of the things said to AKCJ as that. And don't say he's being a dickhead, he's making his points in a mostly valid way and a response can't be given without a personal derogatory comment.

Why the **** does it bother you that much? Why? My time spent playing football has been as a centre back. I therefore watch them play and have a certain level of respect for those who play in that position. I never claimed to be a Premier League manager or something. That's an idea that you've invented in your own head!
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 So Euro 2016 qualifying eh?.... It's been really enjoyable. I don't know if it's been the collective success of the home nations or the increasing number of European internationals who play in a City shirt but Internationals haven't been such a bore.
Donut Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Some of the groups have been good, some of the groups have been bad. I think the big thing for me is that the games now are all to some degree tough games. Gibraltar is the only gimme out there these days. Even San Marino kept a clean sheet, scored a few goals, took a point.
Nalis Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 The plays off look really competitive too, would like qualification for Hungary, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland.
Nalis Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 The whole two tier qualification some people seem to spout when a team like San Marino get hammered is a bit of a two finger salute at the spirit of football. Looking forward to the Euros now, will hopefully be an open but competitve championship.

Spain just walked it as nobody could touch them. Germany are the team to beat of course but all of Spain, Belgium, France and maybe even Italy can beat them on their day. Would be nice to see England reach the semi-finals but I don't see it happening. Not with Roy.
