Our leagues have loads of French and plenty of Africans but they don't get the press. Politically we have equal, if not more reason to mistrust ROI than France, Spain and even Germany. I was in Spain during the recent England v Wales rugger match and it was the familiar scenario of other "Home" nations shouting for the Welsh. This doesn't apply to everyone of course but to those who do, it is rather pathetic in this day and age.
