Captain... Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 This interview from Marc Albrighton was very interesting, I know it has already been posted, but there is something I want to highlight: The role of the crowd, he says, is important. Villa's poor home form was not helped by supporters who were not slow to voice their disillusionment. "If the fans here can get behind us even if we make a bad start to a game – because that's when you need them most – they can make a big difference. "It is not nice to have 40,000 people groan at you when a pass goes astray, although if it's me I'll groan with them because I'm my own biggest critic. But at the same time it gives you a lift to hear people cheering." http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/ill-teach-leicester-how-to-stay-up-says-marc-albrighton-9659528.html This shouldn't be news, but many people on here continue to underplay the effect of fans and come out with comments that they are well paid footballers they should be able to take criticism etc Which is bollocks, premier league footballer is one of the most scrutinised and under pressure "occupations" out there, every mistake and poor performance can be highlighted on Match of the Day, Sky Sports, BT Sports, replayed 1000 times, and shoved down your throat by reporters, and our players are not going to be used to that level of scrutiny. Last season we saw some disgraceful acts from fans, West Ham fans booing a win, Norwich fans throwing things at their manager and Man United fans chartering a fvcking plane to fly a banner over Old Trafford in protest against the manager. It is madness, Tim Sherwood got dog's abuse from the Spurs fans despite rescuing their season and getting them to a respectable finish. We still have a young squad and we need to support them in every way we can and not moan and groan at every mis-placed pass or poor shot. We are going to struggle and we will need to fight for everything and get any advantage we can, poor starts from the likes of Newcastle, West Brom, Swansea, Southampton will soon see their fans on their backs, when we get round to playing these teams we need to make sure that our players aren't feeling the pressure as much as theirs even if we have a terrible start to the season (which we could well do looking at our early fixtures). The pre-season chat makes me worried about the following season, how our "fans" will react when we lose (and we will lose), there was uproar from some that we failed to beat Preston pre-season and a lot of criticism of our transfer activity before a ball has even been kicked. We need to be true fans and not the bunch of expectant arsehole consumers that we see following many other clubs, which means supporting every player (even Konchesky) and the manager all the time and not just when we are doing well in games. C'mon you Foxes Now will someone find me some work to do before I start rambling again.
James. Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I completely agree with all of that but the reality is our fans are absolute bastards.
Captain... Posted 13 August 2014 Author Posted 13 August 2014 I completely agree with all of that but the reality is our fans are absolute bastards. Then we need to out sing and drown out the negativity.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I completely agree with all of that but the reality is our fans are absolute bastards. Not unique to us though. It seems all football fans are bastards. It's important for our fans to not get on the players back too early but it won't happen.
davieG Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Then we need to out sing and drown out the negativity. I guess this is why we need a singing section because moaners and potential singers are all mixed together at the moment and it's easier to groan on your own than it is to start singing,
James. Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Then we need to out sing and drown out the negativity. I hope that some of the negativity last season (and prior seasons) was born out of a false sense of entitlement that we somehow deserved to be in the Premiership and therefore every time we drew at home or lost we were underperforming and therefore it warranted criticism. Now we're at "our level" those fans may be a little more forgiving about being beaten or simply being outplayed and as such be less likely to moan. What do you think? I think if we play in the manner we played last season and show 100% commitment there's a decent chance the atmosphere around the ground will be more positive, regardless of results and regardless of the fact our fans can sometimes be a bunch of nobs.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Completely agree. I've always said we can have such an affect on the players. Unfortunately the bandwagonners who will boo when we're inevitably suffering a hiding at some point will, whilst be in the minority, will also be the most vocal. I want as much praise this season for how we as fans conduct ourselves and get behind the lads as the lads hopefully will get with their performances this season. Our away support is usually great but its been a while since we've suffered a thrashing away from home (pompey away maybe) Our home fans are pretty awful and I include big chunks of l and k block in that assessment
ronnup Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Totally agree and have had this argument before. Plenty of fans believe they should be entertained and 'given something to cheer about' sadly rather than 'supporting' and getting behind the team. Of I'm honest I don't think we will ever have the type of home support they get at places like Liverpool or even Stoke etc because of this.
6ups 6downs 2 cups Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 With ticket prices so high compared to 20 odd years ago, many people feel they should be entertained, they see themselves as customers rather than supporters, never more so when times are tough, everyone can be a,'supporter' when times are good. God knows what the 83/84 season would have been like if social media has been around , 1 point from first 9 games, still stayed up, one of my favorite seasons.it is quite possible we will have nil points after 5 games, we need to hold our nerve knowing more winnable fixtures will be on the horizon, patience and support needed.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I guess this is why we need a singing section because moaners and potential singers are all mixed together at the moment and it's easier to groan on your own than it is to start singing, Which is why a lot of us singers have got together in SK1.
indierich06 Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 So on the one hand people are saying we need to sing and drown out the negativity, yet on the other hand in the 'Ben Marshall Song' thread, people are saying that most of our most popular chants are embarrassing and should be binned. For me, we should be singing whatever gets the crowd making the most noise, regardless of whether the football hipsters think its 'cringe' or not.
stevelcfc Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I don't think the answer is to have one clump of singers a la L/K/top of J3 or SK1 but rather to have a small pocket of fans in each section of the ground, but realistically that's nigh on impossible.
Fox92 Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 People have got to be realistic. I personally have faith in everything Nigel does at our club, and I am confident we can stay up, but on the other hand I know we are in for a very tough start. We're going to be vital as fans. Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in between Stoke - it's not going to be easy - and we could well find ourselves bottom by September. But it's important not to get on everyone's back straight away. While I am a believer in "it's our money so it's our opinion", I also think it's important to be realistic. It's our first season back in the top flight after ten years, I'm going to enjoy it as much as anything else.
Countesthorpe Fox 1884 Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Completely agree with this, our fans are so quick to judge, when we were already up they were moaning if a pass went astray, We need to stick together this season to survive and the only way to do that is not get on the players backs, if they make a mistake we need to encourage then not get on their backs! Come On You Foxes!
LCFC_Nige Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Can we also agree that anyone calling for Pearson to be sacked at any point this season gets garrotted?
The Railway Man Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Completely agree with the opening post but I think most of us know realisitically it's not going to happen. We seem to have more critical fans than most and next year you are probably adding onother 7-8k people that will hardly have watched anything of last season, have shelled out a lot of money and are demanding to be entertained this season. If you attract the 'customer' (which all clubs do in this day and age) rather than the fan then expect them to behave like customers when things go wrong.
ImBlue Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Can we also agree that anyone calling for Pearson to be sacked at any point this season gets garrotted? Stupid comment. If we have no points after 15 games you still going to be behind him? The club is bigger than any person and he should be judged on results, it's the business. Not happy if we don't give him sufficient time to turn it around but nobody is indispensable.

ImBlue Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I would be. No point talking to you. That's absolutely ridiculous.
The Railway Man Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 No point talking to you. That's absolutely ridiculous. Not really, what if we had played extremely well and had outrageous luck/decisions that go against us leaving us like that? You have to consider a lot of things, team potential, performance, what's available to improve before just giving someone the bullet, look how many of our fans wanted him sacked after the Watford play offs without actually considering the whole package and acknowledging the fact we were making considerable improvement from season to season under his guidance? On top of that, surely we should be looking to keep the manager even if we went down? After all, who better would you want to launch another promotion push than a man who assembled a team that won the league with 102 points the last time he was in it. Common sense would surely dictate that even if we got relegated with a low total we should keep NP for a another year to get back up and then dispense with him if we had doubts over him in the top flight?
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 Then we need to out sing and drown out the negativity. Best of luck with that. But it's not going to happen.
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 August 2014 Posted 13 August 2014 I would be. If we got 0 points from a possible 45 that would be a total disaster. Thankfully that isn't going to happen but I think it'd be fair to say the dressing room would have gone if that happened.

If your going to be a moaner and a groaner when we go behind then come the end of the season if we do go down, you have to take some responsibility for that. Some might not agree with this opinion, but this is a football forum and ill speak whatever i feel. Fed up of fickle fans, probably the same ones who have moaned endlessly about the red away kit. Rant over
