Two-thirds of people living in Leicester were born in the UK, according to figures issued by the Government.

More than 308,000 residents live in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country.

An estimated 200,000 residents were born in this country.

India supplied the largest number of people born overseas – with about 42,000.

The second largest overseas community was from Poland, numbering 7,000.

Kenyan-born residents come next, totalling 5,000.

About 4,000 residents were born in each of Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Zimbabwe. Next in size were those born in Pakistan, who number 3,000, while 2,000 people hail originally from each of Germany, Ireland, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The figures were issued by the Office for National Statistics and relate to last year.

So born here means what exactly ?

Well,  "born" means you have left your mother's body after 9 months of incubation and" here" is the area you are in at present.

Why so many Germans? Uni influence?

Amazingly, stunningly, though it's hard to believe... Western Europeans also move from country to country.

Ignoring the sarcasm, why German and not Spanish, Portugese or French?

It wasn't a question with a casually racist undertone or anything, was just curious.

Sure I was just being a dick. Who knows? It's one of the most populous European countries so I guess it stands to reason that there will be a larger number of German immigrants... perhaps.

That seems a very low estimation.

How many are 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants?

Second generation immigrant = born in leicester = british citizen
