Bellend Sebastian Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 I've listened to most of Doug Stanhope's podcasts. I loved his parts on the Charlie Brooker programmes, and although I'm not a massive fan of his actual stand up, he interviews some pretty interesting people and the format of him and his mates just sitting around getting hammered having a chat is quite enjoyable

Would be willing to give them another go - is there a standout episode that is worth listening to first?

Would be willing to give them another go - is there a standout episode that is worth listening to first? To be honest I found the content more interesting than funny, although there are a few laughs to be had. It's one of those things that the style is probably a bit annoying at first but after a while you can see past the stuff that's irritating and appreciate the overall content. The Nurse Betty episode(s) - where he's talking to a senior citizen friend that somehow found herself in prison on drug offences was pretty good, and the ones about his musician chums - the act is called Whisky Girl and Nowhere Man (or vice versa) make for quite intense listening given how events pan out
grth2004 Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 Are the Frank Skinner ones from absolute radio? If so the woman on that is infuriating!! Skinner is great though yes emily dean is the most infuriating woman ive ever heard but frank is worth the download , she thinks shes running the show and for some reason when frank is busy they let her, it makes me feel better to know she goes out with the fat bloke off game of thrones
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 I thought Emily used to offer a different dynamic to the Frank Skinner show but she's given far too much time now and brings the show down. She seems to now steer every conversation towards clothes, the one or two shows without her were much better for her absence
Amin Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 World football phone in. Bbc up all night. It's amazing every week I second that, I've only missed 3 episodes in the last 5 years. It is excellent and Tim Vickery, who featured all over BBC's world cup coverage, is a weekly guest.

Can't stand listening to Emily and if it's ever an occasion when she's presenting I won't listen. The Christian O Connell breakfast show is a good podcast.

Totally forgot about the OC, great show can't remember when or why I stopped listening. Think I updated iTunes, lost my library and forgot that it existed. I still sing the "Man bake" tune far too often
orangecity23 Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 My weekly podcasts at the moment are Comedy: Regular Features (4 blokes on a never ending quest to find a feature that's actually worth repeating - biggest highlight is the multi episode spanning Roger Helmer Spoof newsletter saga. Videogames: I'd recommend the Videogamer.com podcast (because it's actually British and the team are all funny guys) and Daft Souls, which is by Matt Lees (from the aforementioned Regular Features) with a selection of different guests each week. Both interesting, and often very funny. Also echo the Steve Austin show shout from earlier, well worth a listen if you are/were ever a wrestling fan, some of his guests have great stories, and the episodes where Steve is just talking rubbish about his farm are piss funny. I miss Mo the sound guy though, not the same without him
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 5 September 2014 Posted 5 September 2014 606 podcasts with top callers over weekend is decent. Also football forum is a podcast too
Vlad the Fox Posted 6 September 2014 Posted 6 September 2014 606 podcasts with top callers over weekend is decent. Also football forum is a podcast too plus Boot Room and post match interviews.
muzzyizzetisgod Posted 7 September 2014 Posted 7 September 2014 Get on the 606 podcasts or the Monday night club on the 5 live channel, best football ones going I think plus Savage and fletcher are class!
GLC Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 Are there any comedy-football ones about? Or light-hearted football ones? Nothing serious. I'll say it again The Football Ramble. They all love David "The Difference" Nugent
StanSP Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 I'll say it again The Football Ramble. They all love David "The Difference" Nugent Sorry, I hadn't ignored you last time but I had downloaded it but just not listened to it. Being much longer than Football Weekly I hadn't listened to it at the time of making the other post. I did enjoy it though. Is it that long every week?

They're pretty good at going through all the games in the PL and most of the major leagues, that's why it's pretty long

To be honest that goes along with what most pundits have been saying.
broughtonblue Posted 9 September 2014 Author Posted 9 September 2014 The XFM ones are better than the podcasts imo. Rock busters, monkey news and Karl's diary are my personal favouritesLove Karl pilkington, have you got a link to his diary ones or is it just a case of listening to them all and stumbling across it?
foxfanazer Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Love Karl pilkington, have you got a link to his diary ones or is it just a case of listening to them all and stumbling across it?I've not mate. Worth going through them all to find them though. Pretty sure it's in the third series of XFM
promised land Posted 10 September 2014 Posted 10 September 2014 Frank Skinner's Absolute breakfast show used to be really funny but the past year or so hasn't (seems to coincide with him having his first child) Could be Emily Dean his assistant that's letting it down, all she wants to talk about is me, me, me. Any story takes ages to tell as she describes every last detail of herself, always going on about her childhood in a middle class family and her dad was high up at the BBC and they had numerous parties at their house etc. Now she has a boyfriend she tells you that every week. A deputy editor of a woman's mag is her job and she should stick to it and give the radio a miss. Alan Cockerill is interesting to listen too but if he has to have a woman on the show then Holly Walsh who sat in a time or two a few years ago would be better. I've given up with it now after 2/3 years of listening every week. Danny Bakers Five live podcast is good and can be quite funny.
Rincewind Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 I was looking for What are you listening to but this will do. Got this from a friend on FB. A radio podcast called Gallowtree Radio. Its a bit wierd. A series of broadcasts set in a fictional town/country calle Gallowtree. This is the first episode youare supposed to need Itunes but can listen online to the first episode.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 October 2015 Posted 22 October 2015 Are you interested in World War I? To the extent that you'd listen to a series of podcasts totalling about 18 hours on it? If so, check out Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Very in depth but accessible and very enjoyable for THOSE THAT LIKE THAT SORT OF THING. http://www.dancarlin.com/hardcore-history-series/
