Xen Posted 2 October 2014 Posted 2 October 2014 Nowadays, almost certainly Lineker. One of the most well known people in football (if not sport in general) full stop, and he makes no attempt to hide the fact that he supports Leicester and was a former player. Banks has got to be a very close second though, surely? Shilton also. Heskey and Claridge are fairly famous, also,,,
One Legged Beaver Posted 2 October 2014 Posted 2 October 2014 Cambiasso's pretty famous?Easily say Lineker though. Even people without an interest in football know who Gary is!
ousefox Posted 2 October 2014 Posted 2 October 2014 I'd be surprised by anybody in the UK that hasn't heard of Lineker
The Horse's Mouth Posted 2 October 2014 Posted 2 October 2014 Mancini is probably up there, Lineker takes the title though
BlueSSoldier Posted 2 October 2014 Posted 2 October 2014 Everyone says linekar but people now just know him for Walker's Crisps and as a host and not so many people think of him as such a legend. But if we were talking within the last 20 years I'd go with Cambiasso, never thought it would ever happen.. especially after Beckham was apparently certain to join City a few years back.
ozleicester Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 Depends if you are talking England.. or Internationally? England - LinekerInternationally - Mancini?Cambiasso?Banks?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 Depends if you are talking England.. or Internationally? England - Lineker Internationally - Mancini?Cambiasso?Banks? Surely LIneker still gets fairly sizeable international recognition though? Being a Golden Boot winner and all that, as well as playing for Barcelona / Grampus Eight.
ozleicester Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 Surely LIneker still gets fairly sizeable international recognition though? Being a Golden Boot winner and all that, as well as playing for Barcelona / Grampus Eight. Fair point.. probably in the mix
Fox92 Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 Lineker. Surely... He said himself the move to Barcelona made him a name. Added to the fact he's got a Golden Boot. There won't be many people, even the non football fans, who don't known him.
Stadt Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 A girl in my year didn't know who Lineker was, it made me angrier than it should have done but it's still ridiculous.
sylofox Posted 3 October 2014 Posted 3 October 2014 As the OP has not stated this country alone I would go with Cambiasso over Lineker. Reason Lineker is known here and Spain mainly. Cambiasso Argentina Spain Italy and now here would also think he is very well known throughout south America. Also the fact Cambiasso is current people in there 20's in other countries won't have a clue who Lineker is.
