MPH Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Was just thinking the same. I'd like to know what his better alternative to the current approach is. Its always easy to be the critic. Hes confusing himself as much as us...not bomb them... yet doesnt think violence works against terrorists.... yet still says we shouldnt do 'nothing'. Maybe a very aggressive paper scissors stones best of three is called for...
Buce Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 When did anyone successfully negotiate peace with terrorists? The only way to get any sort of victory against terrorists is to combat them.Uk - IRA?Spain - ETA? Columbia - FARC? Peru - Shining Path?
The Doctor Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Just name me one time where violence has worked against terrorists Should I point out that al-qaeda are a shadow of the force they were before or are you just going to ignore it again?

Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Just name me one time where violence has worked against terroristsBalkans conflict late 90's.Farc is almost beaten in Colombia. Al Queda now have little ability to cause the carnage they could ten years ago.
Webbo Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Do Isis count as terrorists seeing as they occupy large swathes of land. Surely they are more an army of occupation?
Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Do Isis count as terrorists seeing as they occupy large swathes of land. Surely they are more an army of occupation? Very good point. In what we have defined as a terrorist group they really actually couldn't be.
JmorsonLCFC Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 So we should put troops on the ground then? If not, what DO you think we should do? You sound french negotiate
bovril Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 negotiate How? We have nothing to offer them. This thread is far out.

Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 So again.... Just what angle are you going in on to negotiate with IS and with what? (And with whom on what side) I can't be the only one really looking forward to the answer to this. Gonna give them there own caliphate?
Darkon84 Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 So again.... Just what angle are you going in on to negotiate with IS and with what? (And with whom on what side) I can't be the only one really looking forward to the answer to this. Gonna give them there own caliphate? Yes, let's hear what the actual answer is to sort this out, seeing as everyone else on here is wrong. Perhaps he could go out to negotiate himself? Who's taking odds on it becoming a hostage situation?
JmorsonLCFC Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 what are airstrikes going to do but aggrevate them????
MPH Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 negotiate " so we'll let you have lots of land and control some people if you.. err... give back some land and stop controlling the people.." Sounds like a plan.
Webbo Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 what are airstrikes going to do but aggrevate them???? It's coming to something when a bunch of fanatics can't murder and oppress without a bunch westerners aggravating them.
absolutelegend Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 what are airstrikes going to do but aggrevate them????If you explain to me how the negotiation would work, then I might be able to understand whether air strikes would be a better option (or not)
ADK Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 Not all terrorists are equal. No fan of the IRA but there is difference between them and ISIS.
MC Prussian Posted 22 October 2014 Posted 22 October 2014 nothing to offer so we bomb them ok great logicSo you would go out there and try and talk nicely to a force that beheads Western journalists and oppresses the local population, rapes kids and kills civilians - people that are no immediate threat to them or only report from those hotbeds?Good luck. Because they'd have to agree to talks first. And nothing so far supports your theory that they're willing to.
