I heard it was because they wanted to cheer the fans up by unveiling the second coming of the fat albino that is Conrad.

You do realise that he's a ****ing goalkeeper and that his livelihood relies on him having solid hands and fingers for his profession don't you? He's had surgery because it was probably the easiest way to ensure he wouldn't have issues further down the road, perhaps even a quicker recovery time. I'm no medical expert, but I do hope you weren't being serious, otherwise you'll come across as a 'bit of a moron'.
