fleckneymike Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Three games, three leads taken, woeful defending from the defence in all games gifts goals. The rest of the side is ok(ish), the defence however is abysmal. Needless freekick conceded by Was, Moore falls asleep and it is 1 - 1. Second half, we have a throw in, Was mucks it up and cant then foul due to a booking first half and Alan Hutton is given about 20 seconds to bring a ball down and jab it in. The remainder of the match saw Benteke seldom marked and Villa players find space in the box. No point blaming anyone else, it is the lack or organisation and nouse at the back which is costing us.
Dan Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Our defence is one of the worst I can remember at this level. It's utterly woeful.
Grewks Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Our defence is one of the worst I can remember at this level. It's utterly woeful. Until QPR the defence itself wasn't the issue.... Now, it has spread from the rest of the side.
lgfualol Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 We're hilariously bad. And even funnier cus our manager was a defender. We are massively out of depth at the back, I expect massive changes in Jan. Maybe Moore even going out on loan.
cityfanlee23 Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 We need 4 new defenders it seems... Need a new captain. Wes Morgan is OK and has done some great last ditch heroics, normally due to being out of position in the first place, He's not a leader though I don't think... He can't organise our back 4 thats for sure. Konchesky is past this level, Moore out on loan Was I cant see how he's been getting so much Praise, constantly out of position and not quick enough. Wes I'd keep only if we found a very good partner for him. De laet if he sticks to his job could be okay, but he's still not great defensively... We are just championship all round at the back.

OR play a formation that protects them better. With a back line that's as shaky as ours, leaving them exposed time and time and time again is criminal. What on earth is Nigel Pearson doing tactically? He's sounding his own death-knell at present. Surely he can see that we are wide open and leaking goals?
Callabinho Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Our defence is one of the worst I can remember at this level. It's utterly woeful. You clearly weren't here for Tater peelers effort then?
pazzerfox Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Clearly this is the area we are lacking in recently. If you can remain solid and not leak goals, we would have won 0-1 today, 1-0 on Tuesday and beat QPR 0-2, then we are sitting pretty in 11th position and everybody is happy...Well almost everyone!
teblin Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Upsons injury has been a big issue. I know people are sceptical about that signing, bit he's good in the air and very experienced at this level.

I don't care what ****ing formation you play, you cant let a man run free from a free kick or leave a player un marked from a cross field pass. This has nothing to do with formation and everything to do with piss poor defending. They're not left exposed, they leave themselves exposed. Benteke first half stood perfectly still and Was and Liam just stood and gawped at him. Against Liverpool Wes got a head to a ball and Konchesky let Henderson run off him, Wes then gets a feeble foot to a cross and Gerard slams in a goal. Against QPR no one pressed the second ball.

Surely he can see that we are wide open and leaking goals? We've tried protecting the back four more already. All that happened is we still conceded goals and then couldn't score. At least now we're scoring goals, and a lot of the goals we are conceding are from set plays. The tactics aren't the problem, the players just aren't good enough.

Yeah but if we played a DM he would have been stood exactly where the ball landed for the first and he'd have tracked back for the second, also Liverpool wouldn't have scored once and we'd be on 30 points by now.

Guest Col city fan Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 You all miss the point. We KNOW our back four is weak. It's feeble at this level. So we continue to play a formation that puts them under even MORE pressure? That makes no sense. As eight goals shipped in three matches testifies. Now bottom, I think, in terms of numbers of goals conceded. But no. You keep going on about coaching 'errors' out of players. It's the 'individual errors' that are costing us. So where's the 'coaching' ( the errors are increasing) and why are they happening? If things were getting better, defensively, fine. They aren't. They are getting worse.
DB11 Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Liam Moore is ridiculously out of his depth at this level for his current amount of experience. Too much ball watching resulting in opposition being unchallenged or Moore being too deep and playing them onside.

You can't blame the formation when we're letting the opposition score set pieces for fun. If you look at their second Matty James is one of the few men goal side when Villa break. Paul Konchesky nowhere to be seen when Hutton scores.
Babylon Posted 7 December 2014 Posted 7 December 2014 Yeah sure, the defence could do with some support. But every bloody position could because we're currently not good enough in any of them.

Have you considered the fact that maybe this is as good as this defence can be? Some players learn, some don't. We've got a raggy dolls defence, with the exception of Wes we've taken rejects from others and polished them up as best we can, the sad truth is Was will always be reckless and crunch folks, Knoch has been bombed out of Liverpool and loaned to championship sides, he always plays to his best BUT sadly his best just isn't quite good enough. Simpson and RDL are rejects from else where and poor young Liam treats a game like a free match ticket and enjoys watching the game rather than participating.
