Good Luck With That...

Lot's of people on here expecting the transfer window to be our saviour this season.

Bottom of the prem with a manager unrecogniseable internationally and no proven top-flight record = No signings of any REAL quality.

Let's face it, it's quality we need, proper quality and currently we have 1 maybe 2 players with that ability. What we do not need is any more players making the step up from the championship or any players who have sat on the bench for teams like Everton for the last year.

This has been the mistake for me this season, we have gone into this campaign with a championship squad, our most expensive signing coming from, yes, a championship team. We've only really bought in 2 players with Premier League experience being Albrighton (rarely featured) and Upson (not kicked a ball). If we can't attract anyone with proven quality in this league, this is where we will really suffer.

Proper transfers aren't just overnight affairs unless you're a Sven or 'Arry, some are of course... But many take place over 12-24 months of scouting, research, sounding them out and then the deal process itself.

The league position will have a big effect though, being bottom or not doesn't really matter but being adrift of safety will

I agree. Players like Kramaric and Vietto would be pointless. We may get a performance out of them eventually but not immediately.

We need someone decent to partner Wes, something different in midfield like a Hoolighan and Defoe or Robbie Keane. Players with a bit of experience at this level that could impact from day 1.....

With the manager we have got who failed us in the Summer naively believing the squad we had was good enough for the premier league. Failing to sign any quality other than an ageing Cambiasso. Being linked with January signings of bloody David McGoldrick and Kris Commons I aint holding my breath that we can get out of the relegation mire.

Took us ten years to get back to this level and as much as I support my club through thick and thin it is quite frankly now getting embarrasing.

If i were the Thais I wouldn't give Pearson five quid let alone let him loose with the purse strings to bring in even more dross.

You mean someone decent to partner waz? Wes has been a liability recently.

So why are they all so sh*t then ?

We couldn't get them in the summer, what makes us think we could get them now?

Different players become available.

As the previous scout articles talked about we identify a lot of players whose contracts are running down, there will be a new batch of players with 6 months on their contracts to try and get. And before you say it, that's not to say you buy any old player who has their contract running down, they need to be of sufficient quality.

It will be difficult but not impossible.

It's just another pointless stick to beat him with, the majority of the managers in the majority of the leagues in Europe will hardly be household names players are dying to play for.  Do people think players have a yearning to play for Fat Sam or Pardew? It's even more ridiculous when you consider what we signed under Sven compared to Pearson.

Players move either for the money or to further their careers. We are unlikely to be offering stupid money, so you target players at clubs where it's a forward step even if we're bottom of the league. That could be in terms of regular football rather than not playing at a bigger club, or stepping up from a smaller foreign league like Switzerland, or a second division in your bigger leagues like the UK or France.

I don't believe we know if it was Pearson, Robinson or the owners who prevented more signings.  If Pearson was at fault then he won't last. If either of the other two then he should stay. Southampton spent £30m in the summer they went up.  I still believe we should have spent a similar amount.

Looks like Manu U will spend heavily in Jan so we might get some cast-offs from there.

I think the OP is right Jan window is not as good as the summer window. I don't think there will be much quality available, just some ageing journeymen who would tolerate a high chance of being relegated.

They can have out cast offs.

I think you're right in that anyone we bring in on January is unlikely to drastically change things.

I don't think that Pearson is a factor though in who we do or do not sign. Players will come for the money, and ambition of the club. Most international players haven't heard of Neil Warnock, Alan Irvine or Gary Monk either. I'm sure that Cambiasso hadn't heard of Nigel Pearson before he decided to join us.

If we're going to survive then it will be because the current group steps up. It does seem unlikely at the moment, but it's not impossible.

Sorry but that is bullshit. Over the last 10-15 years we have seen some proper dross. Are these the same "dross" players that you most likely were praising for winning the Championship at a canter last season?

Dross, is: Ade Akinbiyi, Junior Lewis, Alan Rogers, Alan Sheehan...

Just because they aren't performing at the highest level - doesn't mean they're dross. Outplayed, yes. Dross, no.

Gotta agree with this.

No way do i consider Drinkwater, James, Mahrez, even Knockaert as dross. No way. They are young and learning and should have been accompanied by Premiership quality players to bring them on.

It COULD be that one of the biggest problems has been Upson's injury. He aint great, but he has been there and could have brought the others on by his presence on the field.

I still have hope.
