Captain... Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 We seem to look better as a team when he plays, but he is normally one of the least effective players on the pitch. Discuss:
ScouseFox Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 all went wrong when we dropped him from the hole. then we put him back in the hole and it's seemingly our best performance in 3 months. what's the conundrum? next.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 It's so bizarre, Ulloa plays a lot better alongside him. Maybe it's because he runs a lot so the other players conserve energy?
Sharpe's Fox Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 We always create more chances when he is on the pitch. Maybe it is time to see him less of a striker and more of a midfield playmaker now?
benpicko Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 We always create more chances when he is on the pitch. Maybe it is time to see him less of a striker and more of a midfield playmaker now? But that's basically the only position he's played this season and he had our most assists last season so it's hardly surprising
benpicko Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 It's so bizarre, Ulloa plays a lot better alongside him. Maybe it's because he runs a lot so the other players conserve energy? Or because when it's Vardy and Ulloa up front Vardy contributes nothing at all and Ulloa's the one getting back to link up and try to create something
Stadt Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 That role is what we need to use but with a different player
Guest seanfox778 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Or because when it's Vardy and Ulloa up front Vardy contributes nothing at all and Ulloa's the one getting back to link up and try to create something Yeah that makes sense, Ulloa was where he was supposed to be today... Up front and he looked a threat. It's been frustrating in recent weeks when we've been in good positions but Ulloa is left behind in the Middle of the field because he was tracking back.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 But that's basically the only position he's played this season and he had our most assists last season so it's hardly surprising Yeah you're right, I was just addressing the posters who maintain he is ineffectual and anonymous.
ScouseFox Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 we dropped nugent and were f ucking diabolically awful it all went wrong when we dropped nugent man's been saying it for months an everyone laughed
ADK Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 He wasn't ineffective today, he links the midfield with the attack and allows Ulloa to spend more time forward and Ulloa is our best goal threat so we are obviously better with him up front. Vardy on the other hand is always furthest forward looking to get in behind, but leaves us a man short in possession and on top of that his finishing is poor and he gives the ball away. That's why I call it 4-4-1-1 rather than 4-4-2
lgfualol Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Would keep him in instead of Vardy. Vardy has workrate and pace but not a lot else.
MooseBreath Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 He is the best player we've got in the forward dropping back role and is rarely, if ever, completely ineffective, if only for his movement. Should be in the team week in week out for me. No idea why he gets the stick he does.
AKCJ Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Leicester fans are so unappreciative. He doesn't score, true. He doesn't make many chances, true. But he keeps possession and usually puts the ball into ares that make the opposition sweat. He's a much better player than most give him credit. He'd make a better midfielder than forward IMO. Play him in that hole with Ulloa just infront of him and we score more goals. It's never pretty, but it works. We're not in a position to moan. He plays that role better than anyone at the club and, given that we don't have a forward that can make his own chances or a midfielder that can put chances on a plate for strikers, we look so much more dangerous going forward with him in the side.
Dickov22 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Would keep him in instead of Vardy. Vardy has workrate and pace but not a lot else. If Vardy wins that pen which he should have, would you be saying that?

It doesn't seem like he does much but he probably provides Ulloa with that reassurance. Vardy is probably best as an impact player when we need a player to stretch a teams defence? WardyisPukka Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 First touch is v poor - yes he runs for you all day and creates space but at this level we need more than that plus he jumps and parts like the frickin red sea for eriksens free kick
benpicko Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 If Vardy wins that pen which he should have, would you be saying that? I would have yes
lgfualol Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 If Vardy wins that pen which he should have, would you be saying that?Well, of course not? This thread wouldnt exist.Apart from the penalty shout, since Man U he has had workrate and pace but not much else.

No idea why he gets the stick he does. Not difficult when the only competition is gary Taylor-fletcher, all the rest are strikers who ruin the formation whenever they come in and Knockaert/Mahrez haven't even been tried there.Should have been the first position we strengthened.

lgfualol Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Two things Nugent doesn't have. Vardy's been poor but we look far more threatening with him in the team True. Dont think he works with Ulloa though.
Dickov22 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 True. Dont think he works with Ulloa though. Yeah, they're not great as a pair. I do think Nugent did ok in that role today between midfield and attack, but don't we need more than 'ok'?
theessexfox Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 He's good at linking up play. Didn't go but I remember people commenting after Stoke away in the cup last year that we looked a much better side when he came on, that he really helps our flow and rhythm and we under appreciate his role in the team. Thought he did some nice stuff today, albeit not game changing.
