Is there a decent Turkish restaurant that serves alcohol? When you go out with your mates drinking a mocktail doesnt quite cut it im afraid. Plus i love an Efes

I'm yet to find a top quality Turkish place in the city or shire which can match up to the places on Green Lanes in London. Efes Mangal was decent and Konak too (Konak annoyingly don't serve beer). Best one in the shire was probably IMGE in Coalville.

Think the Istanbul grill in Barrow is pretty good for taste, doesn't serve alcohol buy for taste and value its decent.

Mixed meat platter for 2 at £19.50 is good value, the lamb is excellent.

Yeh Istanbul in Barrow is good - I go regularly - and is certainly very good for a village. Still not quite top tier though. They don't do any fresh salads and breads. I swear those places are Franchise models. There seems to be near identical looking places all over (eg Istanbul Market Bosworth and Istanbul West Bridgford etc).

Decent one in Evington Village.

They have bottles of Efes on display, so most serve beer at least?

Treated myself today as a Monday pick-me-up at lunch. As said, very good for its catchment area.

Stuart Broad's gaff, the Griffin?  Very decent pub grub.

Not been since it’s been taken over. I loved how characterful it was and have been put off by that but I should just grow up and go

Specifically pub grub or anything?

Yeah or a restaurant provided it’s nothing too over the top for a birthday meal.

I'm not great on pub food, but I think the decent ones are The Griffin in Swithland and the Blue Bell in Rothley. Oggi is a good Italian in Syston if you want something a bit different.

What's your current top 3 curry houses( pubs/ restaurants etc) in Leicester  atm pal?

Broadway was decent last week, but think I prefer 3 Kilns meaning my top 3 is now Paddy's, Little Club and 3 Kilns. It's good value Broadway, but I don't really enjoy the experience of sitting in there. Not sure whether I like the half pub/half Indian restaurant thing. I prefer it when you turn an old pub exclusively into an Indian restaurant like Paddy's.

Going Little Club in 3 weeks so will see if that's still upto scratch!

+1 for the Griffin.

Blue Bell is owned by the same people as the Curzon so menu is similar.

If you want curry Gurkha New Delhi in Mountsorrel is excellent.

The Monk in Quorn is good if you want something a bit more expensive.

Little club is round the corner from me. Went there recently didn’t think much of it at all.

Went to the Monk on Sunday, thought it wa great and actually very reasonable at £29 for two courses.

I’ll opt for the griffin - thanks

Haven't been there yet but heard it's decent. Report back! It's the same guy who previously had the Three Crowns in Barrow before the current tenants. He tried to do half traditional and half Indian food,  but it was really poor so I'm a bit hesitant to go to his places. He should have just gone 100% Indian food as the Harrow Inn food looks good.

Where’s best for food (midweek) in Charnwood besides the Curzon?

Not quite in Charnwood, but I can highly recommend The George at Coleorton.

Has anyone tried The Crab and Cow at Leire or Fourwards in Earl Shilton? Looking for a Sunday lunch trip.

Fourwards is fantastic. One of the more expensive restaurants I’ve been to in the county however.

I've not been since it was Ashfields, so it's been a while!

The Sunday lunch menu is £32 for 2 courses or £37 for 3, which doesn't seem bad value.
