Birthday weekend, fancy going somewhere different to our usual Highcross places that tend to be dead pricey anyway.

Fan of Italian and Mexican mostly but open to all sorts.

Las Iguanas is or was decent when I last went. ASK is also nice. Never been San Carlos but know a few people that rate it.

Like I said in the other thread Lilu is amazing. But imo the best restaurants are located out of the city centre, my fave atm is The Old Bulls Head in Woodhouse Eaves, that place is fantastic.

Can add vote for Kayal.

It's specifically Keralan cuisine, if memory serves me correctly, and it's of high quality and very tasty.  Don't ask for a Chicken Jalfrezi, you'll be given short shrift and rightly so

I've heard of curry snobs but I thought it was an urban myth!

This!!!

Been to the Bulls head a few times and never had a bad meal. Also a nice place to take someone on a first date if you want to impress them.

Timo's on Allandale Road is a decent Italian.

Roberto the owner is very friendly, the food is good and you might bump into Esteban who lives round the corner. He's in quite often, but sometimes just for a takeaway. Leonardo lives close by as well. but so far not seen him in there.

Personally I thought the menu and service has gone downhill a bit in the last few years.

It's the only place I've ever known it to happen.  Everything I've ever had off the menu has been delicious, so there's not really any need to be going off piste, so to speak

In my experience the menu and service is a lot better now. Especially the menu, before it didn't know what it was (serving everything) now it is good British food presented well and with a slight twist.

Wonder if Esteban orders the dish named after him.
