Jan transfer window - is that it ?

We'll know the strength of our ambition a week on Monday.

There is no long term financial risk in loan deals. Surely we can find one useful loanee from a top half PL club ?

I have a post that has been waiting to be written since the end of last April. It can finally either be discarded to the bin or produced on here midnight on the second feb.

Why is it every media report re transfers or rumours (which they appear mostly to be!) are linking us with more strikers???

I am with many on here and believe our real areas of concern are in the back four - particularly LB!   How we have no one better than Konchesky is damning and it appears other than Schlupp covering for him the only other option is RDL.  Personally I would play RDL at LB ahead of Konchesky!  I shudder everytime Konch gets the ball for fear of a terrible back pass attempt (which seems to be an option he over uses IMO) or the oppostion attack down their right hand flank.

I personally feel for NP he buys a left back te replace Konch (Bakayogo) then he gets injured and hardly plays for us, then he decides to get a centre back in (Upson) and he gets injured.  I think he identified our weak areas but due to bad luck we have not been able to solve these

left back - all we are reading about is a left back or a centre half,

 - We have a squad size of 25 (ish) to work within. We can't sign a raft of players

 - Good left backs are rare,Good cheap left backs don't exist.

 - We aren't in a position to break the bank

 - Relegation is a real possibility meaning risk vs reward considerations are more greatly hampered by the high risk of the drop

 - We are bottom of the table and quality players are unlikely to want to move to us

 - Defensively, we are 'ok' not great but 'ok' and pretty good in recent games

 - To stay up we needs wins not draws

 - We are not scoring enough goals to win games.

Given the above, the priority has to be on players, whatever their position, that will create/score more goals. If that is achieved, and there is money left in the pot, you look to strengthen other areas such as defense and dare I say it 'left back'. 0-0 draws for the rest of the season won't keep us up. 4-3 wins will!

We have been after left wingers. Is it not a possibility we are eyeing these up to allow Schlupp to move to left back where he will be reasonably tight but also give a greater attacking threat from LB.

In short, fix the biggest issue and then start tightening the screws around the rest of the team. The biggest issue is lack of goals

On the money.

Considering our position, we are not that bad defensively with signs of improvement. More goals is the key to survival from hereon in.

I've learnt not to get my hopes up when it comes to pearson and his tight fisted awkward transfer ways ie we won't spend over on wages and if it gets expensive were out ! Their talking still about the possibly of 3 but with under 2 weeks left can you seriously see it ? It seems to take us so long to conclude a deal so personally I don't hold out too much hope , they've lost naughton who went for 5 m , reports suggest we offered 3 m so he's gone , the japanese striker link has stalled over the fee and Maloney said no , so all in all and with Pearson's previous dealings I don't hold out too much hope no !

Considering Pearson has made it abundantly clear he does not like discussing his transfer plans, it amazes me that you have such an accurate knowledge of what Nige and his team are doing this transfer window.

I bet you were a bundle of laughs when we got relegated to league one.   :nigel:

IMO - yes, I think Kramaric is the only signing we will have made by the end of the window.

We still need players of quality and we all know we need a LB.....but honestly not many player, unless in 'lower divisions or abroad', are going to want to come to the team at the bottom of the league.

We also won't offer silly wages which (as already found with Maloney) will have another affect.

Some of you on here amaze me. Ok, maybe the media highlighted targets aren't coming to fruition, but it doesn't necessarily mean that NP isn't looking at other ones. Roll on transfer deadline day as I love it and I think we'll make one or two signings out of leftfield that nobody has a clue about

No one on hear amazes me anymore. Doom and gloom one week, full of energy and vigor another.....mood changes with one result or one play or for some one minute to the next

Japan have been knocked out of the Asian cup, so we can start that conversation now with Okazaki.

We don't need another striker, other areas require more attention - such as left-back, centre-back and midfield.

Plus, Mainz have made it clear they won't let Okazaki leave at the moment, as he is their primary striker and replacement hard to find in the January transfer window.

This is a good post but I think the section above exposes the limitation in your argument. The defence has shown more solidity as a unit since Hamer's introduction, but the weakness in our back line hasn't been only in the defensive aspects. Where it has also been letting us down is in the ability to set up attacks from defence, rather than just giving the ball straight back to the opposition. Our biggest weakness in this respect is from left back, and your suggestion of Schlupp is a good one (dunno why he didn't play there from the start of the season) but his recent emergence as a real handfull on the LW complicates this - to move him to LB would now weaken our attack. Can we attract a LW as good as Jeff so as to enable us to move Jeff to LB?

Shame De Last hash"t been given another run-out there.

I wonder if we were on 21 pts rather than 17 if we may have converted a few more of these potential signings.

Sad, but I guess we'll battle on to the wire.

Pearson’s men have let in 38 goals in the Premier League this season, and the Leicester boss is hoping to finalise a deal to bring in Stoke defender Robert Huth on loan, but apart from that he doesn’t expect any more business to be done before the transfer deadline.

He said: “Hopefully that one will be across the line pretty soon, but apart from that there’s nothing else to discuss.”

He doesnt really say that's it from that quote. Just nothing else to discuss in general Pearson style.
