OriginalRobboFOX Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 according to a recent massive poll apparently.... 1. Liverpool 2. Manchester 3. Sheffield 4. Leicester Discuss....
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 17 June 2008 Author Posted 17 June 2008 What does 'most musical' mean? Most associated like. I.E. Liverpool - Beatles / Cavern Club etc...
The People's Hero Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 The top 3 I can appreciate... but isn't Leicester mainly Mark Morrison and one of the fellas out of Showaddywaddy?

Dr The Singh Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 I tried to think of more, all I got where....The Charlotte Humperdink The drummer from Fun Loving Criminals er... and er... Kasabian We al;so got Bally B
The People's Hero Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Oh yeah, Kasabian have a good following. Good call.
purpleronnie Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Cornershop The holloways - guitarists from leicestershire And who can forget:- Gaye Bykers on Acid.
hairy Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Young Knives, Crazyhead, Bomb Party, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Cornershop, Basement Jaxx.... Read here
Lillehamring Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 that's why we've lost such venues as the magazine and DMU arena, the spread eagle, to name but a few... leicester is diabolical for live music beyond donnington and summer sundae... there is no arena to get the big bands, and no midsized venues like rock city or brixton academy there are precious few decent bands from leicester, only 'family' spring to mind, the rest are so-so, oh sorry, didn't the drummer from queen come from leicester, too?
purpleronnie Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Young Knives, Crazyhead, Bomb Party, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Cornershop, Basement Jaxx....Read here Who are yeah yeah yeah? I thought Basement Jaxx were from bristol?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 that's why we've lost such venues as the magazine and DMU arena, the spread eagle, to name but a few... Could add DeMontfort HAll to that list too. Sure it has Summer Sundae, but the rest of the year it's strictly has-beens of the musical world (occasionally some worth checking out.) Used to be a time when there were 9-10 good bands a year playing there. Who are yeah yeah yeah?I thought Basement Jaxx were from bristol? Loughborough rather than Leicester, if I recall correctly. No one's mentioned the mighty Diesel Park West yet!
hairy Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Who are yeah yeah yeah?I thought Basement Jaxx were from bristol? Yeah were an 80s indie band that John Peel loved One of the Jaxx Dads is a vicor somewhere in Leicestershire The drummer of Queen came from Oadby But your right we have no venues for up and coming bands to play so we will always be behind Gun City in terms of youth culture. Crap really. We spend all our money on a theatre for the performing arts when the city is crying out for a good venue or the council to relax its rules on the use of DMH

Crap really. We spend all our money on a theatre for the performing arts when the city is crying out for a good venue or the council to relax its rules on the use of DMH i always thought the old ABC/cannon cinema would be a grerat venue in the style of rock city but, seeing as we are such a cultural city, they have decded it would be much better used as a road. when DMU applied for planningg permission for the new SU, it was supposed to have a venue to replace (like for like) the old DMU arena, but as soon as they got PP they were like, "oh, it's just gonna have a small venue now, sorry" - nazis. mind you, i liked the musician when i went to see kathryn williams there, but even that was a week away from being closed - i guess now there are places like sumo and the one near the new theatre that are showcasing new bands, but it's crap generally.
hairy Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Starlight 2001 would be a good venue. Its an old music hall in Lee Circle. Even Cov has a medium sizes venue now.
Dr The Singh Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Starlight 2001 would be a good venue. Its an old music hall in Lee Circle.Even Cov has a medium sizes venue now. There's Athena, that's not too big, it's got a stage and that????

John lives off Narborough Road. Fact.
Finchy Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 This is ridiculous, Leicester is shocking for music! The Charlotte? . No amazing bands have ever come out of Leicester. Seriously where the hell is Birmingham? As far as venues go, Birmingham has to be the best outside of London, and the bands from Birmingham, Led Zeppelin! Black Sabbath! Worst Poll Everrrr
Jay Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 This is ridiculous, Leicester is shocking for music! The Charlotte? . No amazing bands have ever come out of Leicester. Seriously where the hell is Birmingham? As far as venues go, Birmingham has to be the best outside of London, and the bands from Birmingham, Led Zeppelin! Black Sabbath! Worst Poll Everrrr but UB40 also come from Birmingham which removes any positives from the likes of Led Zep, Sabbath, PWEI, and takes them seriously into minus points
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Showaddywaddy, Engelbert, Kasabian... errmmm... That's about it. Unless it's on how musical the people in the city are??
Guest Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 The poll shows that the 4th most people who could be bothered to vote made Leicester 4th in the list.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 What country is London in then? (I realise it's just a poll)
James. Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 One of the Jaxx Dads is a vicor somewhere in Leicestershire That sums it up for me. The Dad of one of the blokes in an alright-ish dance group is a vicar from Leicester. Therefore Leicester MUST be the 4th most musical city in England. What a load of bollocks. The scenes in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol, Brighton and obviously London are on a completely different level.
Ultra Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 No-one's mentioned Phil Oakey from Human League. He was born in Leicester..
Finnegan Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 What country is London in then?(I realise it's just a poll) I thought that. This strikes me as a poll somewhere like the NME where half the voters would be impressed by the like of Kasabian and the Arctic Monkeys. Sheffield above London?
