Guest Bilo Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 The season begins here boys and girls. Firstly, the odds statistically are not on our side. Coventry haven't lost an opening game since 2001, we haven't won there since 2003 and have never won at the Ricoh. Add to that our rather poor opening day record and things don't look good. This though is a different Leicester City. We've signed well and had a good pre-season against some genuinely top class teams, not disgracing ourselves against the likes of Bursapor, Valencia and of course Real Madrid. The gelling process has begun and is going nicely with City being made pre-season favourites with most of the bookies and with a striker expected to be complete the set-up this week, hopefully a good season lies in store. Coventry by contrast are struggling, financially and on the pitch. King, Westwood and Gunnarsson have left the club with only Westwood really being replaced and expectations are low. Draws at Kettering and Chesterfield and a heavy defeat at home to Norwich in pre-season are hardly inspiring confidence down the M69 but we should still go with caution. Coventry always seem to start well and in spite of their departures, the bulk of their team from last season that was in the play-offs before Christmas is still there so we underestimate this side at our peril. Nevertheless, I expect us to finally break our duck at the Ricoh Arena. We've never gone there looking any stronger than we are now. A 2-1 win for us with King and Nugent starting what will hopefully be a great season. Attendance: 26,214 (5,782 Leicester)
Father Ted Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 We will do them over 3-0, Mills, Danns and Gallagher with the goals. They lost 3-0 to Norwich at home last week in a friendly with their full strength side out. No Westwood, Gunnarsson or King (their 3 best players), they are on a slippery slope. We will do them over similar to Scunthorpe away last season. COME ON LEICESTER
Adster Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 3-1 win, Gallagher, Danns and Maynard () on the scoresheet.
ousefox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Can't imagine what this place will be like if we lose, but really can't see it, just hoping the team all work together well with the new signings.
Happy Fox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 5-0 Win Nugent*2, Bamba, King and Gallagher Mildly optimistic, but I cannot help myself Attendance: 24,654
sdb Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 1-1, opening days and derby's are usually tight. We lack a goal threat and considering attack is often the best form of defence too, i can't see us keeping a clean sheet...(maybe if NM and SWP come in ). A draw would be an OK start. On paper we should win, but that rarely counts in this division. Attendance, 24k.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Of course we should win, but given our record at the Ricoh and with them being good starters traditionally, I think I will settle for a solid point to start the season with. Saying that though, I can imagine a Derby style performance where we totally outclass them and comfortably win 3-0.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Going to this and looking forward to it... The ricoh is too big for Cov so we will make more noise than them as always. We should win let's be honest...
jordan_lcfc Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 A leicester 4-0 win, Nugent - 2, King - 1 and Johnson (if he plays) Leicester have to win, then we will have a lot of confidence for every game!
Dabizas Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 I know people say we always draw etc but seriously, our lads will be a buzzing about the season ahead and they have lost there best players a draw wouldn't be the worse result but if we want to get out this league we need to be winning games like this and personally think we will comfortably!
ozleicester Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 3-0 to us...im going to this and to Forest away as my last two games... im expecting record breaking wins at both
Charl91 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 I genuinely think if we don't expect to beat Coventry, then we shouldn't expect to get a top 2 place.
Happy Fox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 I genuinely think if we don't expect to beat Coventry, then we shouldn't expect to get a top 2 place. The season isn't decided on one game
Charl91 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 The season isn't decided on one game I know, but we should be setting our sights much higher then a draw with coventry, if we want to be winners. IMO coventry are one of the weaker teams in the league now, even away we should expect 3 points if we want to do well. We need to win the easier games. Might be the start of the season, but every point counts.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 1-0! 94min stoppage time winner from Danns at the Leicester end!
Fox92 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Cannot wait for this, really excited now as everybody I'm sure will be. Even though, we've never won at the Richo (the two times I've been before have been 1-1!), I think we'll win 3-0 with Mills, King and Vassell scoring. COME ON LEICESTER.
dpjfox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 0-2 Leicester Nugent Gally pen with same team/formation that started v RM
Trumpet Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Kermogant to come off the bench on 75 minutes and bag a hat trick
Mr Miaghi Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 3-1 to Leicester King, Danns, Vassell Attendance, 24,212 Come on City!
George Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 If you don't beat us you'll need hanging. We'll be forced to play 5 youth team players. With our first XI out I'd still expect us to be beaten, but with 4 of our better players injured, there is only going to be one winner and we could be embarrassed.

I didn't realise things were that bad for you, though the pre-season results suggest some deep lying problems. What are your realistic hopes for the season ahead then?
George Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 I didn't realise things were that bad for you, though the pre-season results suggest some deep lying problems. What are your realistic hopes for the season ahead then? Pre Season has gone fine really, only lost once to Norwich but it was a game which we were well in for 60 minutes (probably the better side) we treated it as a proper game and only made 2 substitutes whilst they brought on 11 fresh legs between the 50th and 60th minute which just totally took the game away from us. Other than that, we won 3 and drew 2 playing some good stuff. And to be fair to some of our younger lads they're not just there to make up the numbers, a couple of them look very good. In Thorn I feel we have a decent manager who's got the players on side playing some good football, we're just missing a couple of key links from making us a decent first XI IMO, a speed merchant up top and someone in the final third who can play that final pass.
