What on the roads has annoyed you today?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo replied to Parafox's topic in General Chat
The trouble with having a standard exhaust on a motorbike means you're much more likely to have pedestrians walk out in front of you when you're filtering in traffic, or cars not checking their wing mirrors before changing lanes. I've never had quiet exhausts on my bikes for that reason, and I would imagine it's also a reason why a lot of other regular riders do. People driving like idiots is a different matter - what seems more ridiculous is the straight-through exhaust that all the kids put on 4-stroke 125s. Some of them are deafening, and it's heightened by the fact that a 125 4-stroke engine sounds like utter dogshit in the first place -
They should be picked up from 8 weeks old onwards, apparently much earlier than that and they can develop behavioural issues as a result. Can't give any advice on where to buy as I got mine from a friend of a friend who had a one-off litter but if you don't go off a recommendation, ensure you go to visit the place and insist on seeing the litter with their mother, and check the place is properly set up and not just a front - I had a friend who didn't and it turned out the puppy was from a puppy farm and it quickly developed a fairly serious illness. It was ok in the end but caused a sizeable dent in her bank balance! Labrador btw - perfect choice. They are absolutely magic with children and seem to instinctively know not to play rough around them. I've had friends with babies and toddlers around my dog and she is really careful around them even when she's excited. Also dead easy to train - apparently the black and yellow ones mostly (brown labs tend to be a bit more loopy for some reason)

Power Wash Simulator on Game Pass. Tried it out for a laugh and it's a surprisingly satisfying way to kill time -

Wow! From the opening couple of paragraphs I thought you were going to end up being lured somewhere so was relieved this didn't happen Just watched the Harry Potter video and watching some of his other stuff, that is utterly insane talent. Most people could practice something 8 hours a day for their whole life and still not be anywhere near as good -
Outwoods between Loughborough and Woodhouse Eaves is great, just be mindful of the bridal paths if you have the dog off-lead. Also the fields along the Soar between Mountsorrel and Barrow are good - just have to be careful if the cows are roaming about

Kasper... Is it time to go?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo replied to The whole world smiles's topic in Leicester City Forum
Love the bloke and everything he's done for us but if he wants to go then fair enough. He's at his peak or just past it, general shot-stopping has always been good but positioning and commanding of area for corners and freekicks has been problematic for at least the last couple of seasons and he doesn't seem to be rectifying it. If he stays or leaves, he'll always be in that legendary bracket though. So many outstanding moments for us in his time here -

UK to bake in 33C amid extreme heat warning

I actually felt drunk from the heat yesterday afternoon and evening. Slept god awful upstairs in 30 odd degrees with a completely useless tower fan pushing hot air at me. The air outside is f***ing mint today though -

Now, the simulation theory does hold a bit of water and is cause for some very interesting debates which could void all the other shit But as it stands, in the reality (theory), the rest is just other shit 😂 -

Forgive me for pigeon-holing but the people that tend to hold these kind of views (and usually subscribe to any Facebook conspiracy theory, they'll also have Info Wars as their homepage and use the most obscure search engine you've never heard of) are the kind of people who just love an argument. Typically extremely stubborn and won't accept facts or any sort of logical theory where facts aren't available They'll laugh at you for referring to anything proven/logical as "fact", because their community has some mad person/troll/"alternative thinker" providing them with "the truth" There are sections of these people that in 2022 believe the earth is flat. It is a complete waste of energy trying to debate with them And 100% this. I work with a conspiracy nut (and previously with 1 even more outrageously nutty nut). Some of the beliefs include - - David Icke's "theory" that the Royals actually are lizards in costume - dinosaurs didn't exist - vaccines don't work and the one that somehow pissed me off the most: - any technology we use today stems from technology from a crashed alien spacecraft If she'd have done ACTUAL research and/or paid attention at school, she'd have realised that the body of science, physics and engineering has been multiplied over hundreds of years (obviously accelerating greatly over the last 100 years or so) where we, as a race, have gained an understanding of energy, circuitry, the breakthrough of the microchip, computer programming, all of this combined with millions of people who DID pay attention at school has landed us where we are today. But no, just dismiss all that because they can't get their stupid ignorant head around it. "Aliens dun it" -

I've got a decent fan but that's gonna be used just for the dog for the next few days. Went and bought a fan from B&M (very little choice there or elsewhere) and it's completely useless ffs -
Same, myself included, but I don't know why as I've always liked Pizza Hut pizzas. The base is nice and I don't know how they get their pepperoni to crisp up like that without the pizza being burnt

No you're quite right, I was at the base of the slopes in La Thuile, Italy getting ready for a day's skiing, it was -22°c and I had to take my jacket off as I was roasting. Apparently if it's sunny and no wind chill, you've got sunlight bouncing off every surface at you so you're being radiated much more than you would be elsewhere (especially in England, where ambient temperature might be 0°c, but there's barely any daylight, chances are it'll be damp and windy and generally miserable, making it feel much colder) -

40 is unheard of here. Kent has the UK's record temperature of 38.7°c recorded in 2019 - usually we get a few days of about 30 tops but average summer temperature is 22-25 I'd say Hardly anyone (I know, at least) has air conditioning, and whenever we do get a heatwave shops usually sell out of fans and portable aircon units People accusing the media of scaremongering should be mindful - I was in France 2003 when they had that outrageous heatwave, a few days at 42-43°c without air conditioning was extremely uncomfortable even for me as a healthy teenager. Nearly 15,000 people died in France as a direct result of the heat -
Apparently a lot of manufacturers include the heating elements and necessary cabling in all car seats, and and the only difference between cars with and without heated seats is the switchgear to actually be able to turn it on. I'm told this is because it's actually more cost effective for the manufacturer to just mass produce 1 model of seat (then upholster as per spec of car ordered) than have fewer units made of 2 variants, and end up with a surplus of one variant. It wouldn't surprise me if base models are sold as a bit of a loss-leader and charging £500+ for the heated seat option makes up for it as more people would specify this than not I think that's why Dacia did away with their ultra-low spec Sandero. It was one thing to be able to have the most affordable car on the market, but hardly anyone is ordering the base model with manual windows, no radio, no air con etc
-
Absolutely. So often (especially with pet insurance) the cheapest quotes are offered by companies I've never heard of. A little digging around Trustpilot and Google just reveals terrible feedback from people who've made claims that their policy should cover, only to find the insurer refusing to payout, or paying out months later than expected with stacked excesses that means you are essentially paying out yourself anyway

Landlord probably got backhanders from his "preferred" company. Much like when estate agents make you use "their" solicitors etc But it's like when you go through GoCompare for car insurance, the range of prices for the same product is insane. My recent car insurance was £250 with a reputable company, most quotes ranging from that to £300, then you suddenly start seeing £500, £700, £900 etc. Who's using these companies?!
