Sheff Wed -10th Aug 16:30 - First up?
Jazzy_Jeff replied to Spudulike's topic in Leicester City Forum
I’m hoping, with the greatest respect to Sheff Weds, that the game goes ahead and we get a comfortable win. Momentum is so important and if we can start well that could attract attention to the players we want to shift, highlight our potential to possible replacements and get some valuable points on the board. The bigger picture of course is the situation at Sheff Weds which all football people should want sorting out as quickly as possible. Amazing to think of the time and effort that the authorities have spent trying to punish us when situations like this are ongoing. -
If they end up staying beyond 1st Sept, Soumare and Winks are playing for their futures. No-one is going to want them if they can’t perform at championship level Ndidi is Ndidi - wouldn’t be desperate to sell him but wouldn’t be disappointed if he went Torn on Skipp, would be interested in seeing how he does with a run of games and some confidence
-
If our squad remains similar to what it is now I think we’ll be stronger. Last time round we had a team made up of new starters or those coming back into the fold.
-
Chris Powell has left too, get on the blower Jon/Top/Anyone!
-
We’re going round in this never ending circle as prospective new players will see what the likes of Coady and Winks are on and will want parity. Once the fat has been trimmed, we need to go back to a strategy of signing young players on the way up with a cap of £30-40k per week. That along with our academy, would build a squad of players on an upward trajectory and we wouldn’t find ourselves in this position again. For this to work we need capable people in charge, that’s the first thing that has to change

Listened to a pod on the athletic earlier on data. Bloke from the Liverpool scouting team said they reviewed targets every month of the year and had January’s targets established by 1st Sept and summers targets by 1st Feb. Parish from Palace was on the rest is football recently and he said they work a year in advance based on current players ages, contract situation and injury record. Everything with us is reactive and with no strategy.

Stephy Mavididi (no real rumour, some clubs "interested.")

I’d say anything around £20m -

I wouldn’t sell unless offer was too good to turn down. Monga and Mavididi on the left with Fatawu and Mcateer on the right are great options -
Working on the assumption Fatawu isn’t fit yet and I’d prefer to use Ricardo more sparingly to get more games out of him. If he missed Friday with sore hammy he should already be a doubt
-
This is what I’d like to see against Sheff Weds assuming we don’t sign anyone (😆) players in brackets will be who would play if predicted player leaves before then Stolarcyzk Choudhury Faes (Okoli) Nelson Justin Winks Ndidi (Skipp) Mcateer BEK (Ayew) Monga Daka
-
I would be happy with him starting as inverted RB and using Ricardo more sparingly. Getting 30 mins a game out of Ricardo is safer than overplaying him and him missing large chunks of the season
-
I’m with you on this. Its an exciting thought to have academy players throughout the team/squad next season. if we can use next season to start gelling them together the spine of our 1st team could be built for years to come. we have to accept that there will be mistakes and a drop in form from time to time but it’s all part of their development.
-
KDH will end up back here one day, clear that he didn’t want to leave
-
Might make him less attractive to suitors though, I thought £60m was excessive when the spurs news broke. If he (and they) have a poor season it’s possible no one wants him, especially if others impress at World Cup. It’s risky from Forest, I would have taken the £60m and reinvested. Clubs won’t do business with them if they aren’t careful.
-
Not just saying it because it’s Forest but they are dodgy. i really hope that his performances fall off a cliff, no-one comes in for him and they are stuck with him on mega money until his contract ends (sound familiar?!) Can see this getting messy with Spurs and already at loggerheads with Palace.
-
He’s bound to have admirers due to championship season and first half of last year. West Ham links probably have some truth as Potter will like his ability with ball at his feet, same with Howe at Newcastle who missed out on Trafford. Wouldn’t surprise me if Enzo ended up coming in for him
-
It’s important to remember that with Faes he’s not had a decent cb partner since he’s been here. Whilst Nelson is younger and less experienced, Faes may benefit from playing with him. Must be difficult as a cb to be constantly worrying about covering your partner with no pace (Coady, Vestergaard) or bad decision making (Amartey, Okoli)
-
I would feel much more comfortable with Asmir as 3rd choice. Even if one comes in on loan to challenge Jakub. If JS got a serious injury I don’t know how I’d feel about Begovic being 1st choice for an extended period of time
-
For anyone who’s not heard the Pod, Mavididi had a tight groin and Ricardo a tight hamstring. Both precautionary. Marti said same for VK but didn’t buy it! (Hopefully someone else will 👀)
-
I would sell them all apart from Page and start again. I think that pre season has shown us that we have enough depth and quality throughout the squad apart from two areas - centre midfield and centre forward. The rest of the window should be spent trying to get rid of those we don’t need and sign quality in those two areas. With the moves premier league clubs are making there might be some good loan opportunities coming up.
-
From what I’ve seen today: Stolarcyzk Choudhury (unless Ricardo is fit and was rested) Faes Nelson Justin Winks Soumare Fatawu BEK Monga New
-
As much as people may hate to admit it, we have a lot of players that have been poor in the PL but will be a class above the majority of players in the championship If we had a spine of Coady/Faes/Vestergaard Soumare/Ndidi/Winks BEK/Ayew Along with our impressive academy players we would absolutely pi55 it - even with a points deduction
-
Didn’t want him back. Definitely scoring against us though.
-
I think he would benefit more from a year in the gym and training with our 1st team more than moving down the leagues
