Someone in a local FB group posting pics of Jubilee Square as it was being created a decade ago Was it me imagining, or do I remember loads of people kicking off against this at the time? Converting it from a dingy car park to the open space today has been brilliant. It's such a popular place when it's sunny.

We allowed to talk 0.0% here? Finally gave in and tried Leffe 0.0 the other day in an attempt to cut down on the alcohol intake. Usually dead sceptical of alcohol-free as Becks Blue etc have tasted rank, but this was fvcking glorious. Loved every drop of it.

It's weird cos there's another forum I look at and they're creaming themselves over this season's crew compared to here . I think the RJ debate is so tiresome tbh. My take is that she has her moments, like most standard comedians, but it takes extra concentration and patience to focus on her getting to the punch line, which can be difficult to adapt or get used to. There's the ridiculous online reactionaries who say if you don't find her funny you're an ignorant albeist, but if she was Chris McCausland levels of funny there'd be far less criticism. Not sure how this season will pan out tbh but I think whatever the case it's indicative of the C4 era - not a patch on Dave pre-covid (particularly series 1 & 7, in fact it's a crime we only got six episodes of the season one crew) but it's still an eminently watchable show. And hey, at least it's not John Robins forgetting it's a comedy show and taking it super seriously. The line up for Series 19 is out as filming has begun - doesn't look like a stonker.

Not that I'm thinking too deep but I prefer the UK Dash Cams YT account, they release a compilation weekly. Not sure why I prefer it tbh they show the same type of stuff It is interesting that in many cases the behaviour of the cammer is as bad, if not worse than the person they've sent in footage of. I do enjoy a rummage through the comments of these compilations though, too.

Should I be in the least bit excited for this Joshua fight on Saturday btw? Was considering watching it but wanted to check with people who are not fairweathers like me whether it's worth it?

The unhinged hatred for Kane on here continues Imagine if Vardy was accused of "stat padding" because he took and scored three penalties in a single game, this place would melt down. God forbid a striker scoring penalties takes multiple ones in a game. We really, really need to get over our weird grudge against Harry Kane guys. We're fully grown adults.

On Cliches - I agree about MHD - I'm also glad they've got fewer guests on for the special MHD episodes. There were some MHDs that were quite tiresome as you'd get the most mundane loves and hates of football ("My first love of football is football itself," types) Listener ones are mixed, can usually tell by the episode length how good they are. Other than them settling on a core crew, I like their quizzes too. Also made me find the Career We Go podcast too which is a fine listen (although their between-round stings are so irritating). Also agree about Be Having You. It lacks the chemistry or energy or nicheness of QK, and maybe the genuine love of 90s football that the previous trio had. I've only just started listening to Jewell one, but the Kevin Phillips one I found to be a bit dull. Maybe because he's still "in the game" so to speak - so not quite as open and ready to offload great/funny anecdotes. It also focused a lot on the 90s!!! They need feature stings and more correspondence, the Steve Ogrizovic stuff was exactly the type of thing we need from listeners.

Isn't it Justin's foot they're looking at playing him on?

In 2014/15 we were live on TV twice up to the start of December In 2015/16 we were live on TV twice up to the middle of December Broadcasters aren't going to waste their picks on a team who they don't really fancy or think will make good TV. Obviously with the 15/16 that changed. But there's your comparable. Also, there's a delicious irony we've got a bit of whining about not being picked for TV when all we ever do is fvcking whine about being picked for TV when our games move.

They do it with PSR though, so why wouldn't they with this. PL are the front face for the shitshow of decision making that member clubs make. Astonishing really. -
This is bang on tbh. Unless you're one of the mega clubs (and Everton, seemingly ) you're never more than one bad season from getting relegated. How much more stable did we need to be than nine consecutive seasons, a title win, two fifth place finishes and hundreds of millions spent on players? It might not get better than that, based on current trajectory.

Problem with this Man City case is that everyone has already found them guilty in their head. This is a very complex case, 115 separate charges with evidence, context and the knowledge of the rules critical - hence the incredible number of lawyers and time it's taken to analyse and build their sides. But to football fans they're guilty as charged. Get em relegated and if they're found not guilty on any of them it's a FIX. It's not nice to hear but they might get off on them legitimately. Heck, their very expensive legal team might have found a loophole in the rules, who knows. I'm not diving in front of the Man City bullet, I won't be championing them. I'm just saying that if they do get found not guilty on one, some or all of the charges, and it actually is based on solid legal reasons, everyone will say it's corrupt anyway. Oh and if they're found guilty and sanctioned badly then they'll appeal all the way up to the highest court they can, so forget this being over anytime soon.

And whilst out owners and senior management treat us as they want to, our own supporters continue to be a hindrance to the very notion of creating some kind of atmosphere or appreciation for our players -
So we're consulting again on safe standing with the "consideration" to continue but only when there's redevelopment, which will not start until at least 2027, meaning we probably wouldn't get it until 2029 at the earliest. All this whilst team after team after team after team have installed it already. Really is a joke.

Correct, Kieran Maguire did something on it last month. Essentially says in the follow-up that Man Utd as a listed company HAVE to declare this, other clubs don't - hence making them stick out like a massive sore thumb compared to those who just keep quiet about it.

Hope the screamy right-wing, hypocritical lot aghast at this cut will be so loud if other benefits for non pensioners were cut. I. Suspect. Not.

Nothing to contribute, sorry, but just to say I really enjoy this thread - everyone is properly invested in seeing our city thrive for a pub scene, even if it is a bit ropey. Hearing updates, opinions and memories about pubs/bars and areas of the city is brilliant.
-
It really is. An absolute staple and keep the joyous part of football going from the rubbish that it can be otherwise (Quickly Kevin also helped with that). Typical that it was in limbo this time last year when the Athletic (whose main podcast, ironically, became trash) dumped it off before Goalhanger picked it up. Really need to get to one of their live shows one day. Why we won't have a sports/podcasts thread baffles me. So many good podcasts out their to recommend and talk about

The main issue with this case, and with a lot of things like this, is that the conspiracists have already made their mind up. They know Letby is innocent, and that it's all down to the great establishment pinning it on someone. Forget the months-long trial, intricate evidence and detail that we weren't privvy to during this time. The disrespect to the families of the dead is quite something. I imagine Letby is sitting with fresh faced hope every day as her new lawyers prepare to try and get her out, instead of rotting away inside exactly where she should. It's strange, also, that so many people respond to heinous crimes against children way more than they do against adults. Natural, of course, because these children had no hope against someone as evil as her. And yet, here we are, with an army of online sleuths thinking it's a great miscarriage of justice.
-
Cos if you've seen OPs posts on the matter you'll know they're obsessed with the thought of them being innocent

You do realise that these wins will be declared null & void because Carsley refused to sing the national anthem. Such a shame tbh. -
Why do these people also conveniently forget that had we not been relegated we'd have been slapped with a points deduction. We wouldn't have skipped through the loophole. The money was still wasted on crap, it was still wasted entrusting Brendan and his gang with more control. To shoulder the blame almost entirely on PSR is the biggest get-out clause for the incompetence, and it'll get us absolutely nowhere. Though our owners will love it. Slide that blame elsewhere.
-
Yes, there's a lot of word salads in this thread and it's all a bit baffling. Especially as if had we not got relegated we'd likely be sitting here having had, or about to have some form of points deduction. Let's rejoice in the fact that we got away with this after the substantial financial mismanagement we've experienced over the last few years. The PSR rules need to be looked at, scrapped, rewritten, whatever, but they've exposed the enormous loophole that exists and hopefully this prompts significant and lasting change. Don't forget also that these rules were imposed by the existing PL club's at the time. The PL enacts on the things voted for by member clubs, not on a whim. There's a collective failure on the clubs, too, for not doing proper due diligence on these flawed regulations in the first place (not us though we benefitted lol)

3 games in, 1 point, overall assessment …

It's the same mob and attitude from 22/23 isn't it. All over again, rinse and repeat.
