The only makeup of our midfield that has any potential to work at the moment is Winks as a 6, and Page and BEK as dual 8s. Defensively, that’s lacking steel, but would allow us to press very high.

Never fully convinced on Okoli, potential to be a dominant centre back but a good chance it doesn’t quite happen. Think we’d need to replace, at least short term, and can’t see us spending anything so maybe Alfie Gilchrist on loan?

Complete consiparacy theory here, based on nothing but my own head. Top is done, KP are a mess and he wants to sell, so he’s reducing our costs dramatically to appease buyers. He will sell anyone we get an offer for and we will only bring in frees and loans. Radio silence from the top will be broken after transfer window to explain why he had to do this (will waffle on about sustainability etc etc) Marti has been brought in to work with the academy players and whoever’s left.

Defensive midfielder and a Striker needed. I struggle with the former, but would go for Fredrik Hammar. Would love Franculino as the striker but happy if its Kone.

Fatawu is too good for this level, when he improves his finishing he’s going to be insane. The save by Stol from Chalobah was excellent, he’s a fantastic shot stopper Their goal was a defensive mess, Okoli, Thomas and Soumare all weak during it. The Skipp dive in makes it a goal too, think it hits JJ otherwise. As much as it’s being said we deserved to be 1-0 down at HT, we had 2 or 3 really good chances we should have done better with. I quite fancy Luke Thomas for a few goals this season. Overall I’m encouraged still, with better finishing we win that 4-1 and the narrative is different. Still think we need a 6 and a 9 (Ayew was good though)

I’ll happily see Winks stay, we saw yesterday that at this level, with the ball at his feet he can run games. He’s well worth keeping. I wouldn’t extend his contract though, I’d replace with someone like Hayden Hackney next season (this is presuming we go up, if not, I still think we replace). He can massively provide value for money this season if he helps get us up though. A wage worth paying at this point. The same doesn’t apply to Faes or Soumare at all, completely incomparable scenarios

Soumare is always the issue. Been calling it on here since the Fiorentina match , after a centre forward, we need a 6. One that is mobile enough to break up play, whilst being solid on the ball. I’ve always rated Winks, but he’s also not that player, he does have potential alongside one in a double pivot as we saw in 2nd half today. After a decent pre season I’m still not sure what Skipp actually does.

Zero problems with Ayew taking the 9 shirt. A senior pro and member of leadership team standing up and putting himself forward to be a main man. No issue at all, shows balls and belief. huge fan of BN4
