If folk on here can give King Power grief after the club's achievements of the last 15 years, there's absolutely zero reason whatsoever why any player should receive immunity. Especially a player who - without Vichai writing the cheque - would never have become a City player in the first place. Don't blame Vardy for wanting to ride the gravy train for as long as possible. But the reality is, these days, he is way short - as both a player and captain - of the standard needed to compete at Premier League level. A competent director of football would have told him this months ago. There's always the hope that he may somehow be able to rekindle past glories, as he did for one glorious moment at Spurs. But it's far more likely that he'll ghost through today's game, just as he did at West Ham, Everton, Newcastle and many other places.

Derby away has always been a decent day out, with cracking pubs and (generally) vibes to match. Loved going into the Brunswick pub near the train station and hearing locals talk pre-match of how the sheep were absolutely guaranteed to give us a doing. Needless to say, Foxes - whether under Little, MON or even Taylor (😯) - would often have other ideas. It was pure bliss to go back into the pub after such victories and see those fans licking their wounds and drowning their sorrows. In particular, the 4-0 win in 1998 - when we demolished them in the first 15 minutes, and in front of Sky cameras too - retains a prominent place in this Fox's list of all-time favourite away days.

Each to their own, but personally I'd prefer to see the scum playing at Barnet rather than Barcelona. You clearly never visited the swamp and heard the A-block spew racist bile at us for decades. They sank even lower on the night of Clive Clarke's heart attack and accused him of faking it to get the game abandoned. I could never wish those creatures well. It sickens me to think that they will be representing our region, and our country, in Europe next season. 😟

Best bet is the Courtfield Tavern opposite Earls Court tube station.

Rodger’s vs the board (chicken vs egg)
accessory replied to Lambert09's topic in Leicester City Forum
In Rodgers' world, nothing is ever his fault. Not bottling a two-leg cup semi against a pitifully weak and depleted Villa side. Not blowing a FOURTEEN-point lead over Man Utd to miss out on the Champions League. Not blowing another double-digit lead the season afterwards - this time over Liverpool - to miss out on the Champions League again. Not rushing players back too quickly from injuries (Ndidi, Söyüncü, Ricardo to name but three), causing them fitness issues that still affect them to this day. And certainly not sending an unfit, unprepared, understrength side to Forest for one of the most abject "defences" of the FA Cup in living memory. There should indeed have been a "reset" after that appalling afternoon, but one which took in the management as well as the players. The toxicity that has wrecked the club in recent seasons was already starting to take hold. Leaders in the dressing room like Morgan, Schmeichel and Evans were leaving and not being replaced. Rodgers only ever saw City as a stepping stone on his way back into the big 6. Rudkin managed to keep him sweet for a while with an exorbitant new deal, but in time he became restless again, then sulked when the offer he craved (especially from Chelsea) never came. The team's mentality was always fragile throughout his time with us, and it's notable that Celtic still have similar issues (as seen in Europe) now he's returned there. -
This isn't a Championship club - at least not yet.. But Southgate's likely to be looking for a package well above what Rudkin's now on. And after our experiences with Taylor and SGE, we should probably give ex-England bosses a swerve anyway.

Steve is a sound bloke, and a more influential figure in our club's history than many realise. Unlike some City players of more recent vintage, he remembers - and respects - his roots. Although his time in the limelight lasted barely 18 months, he accomplished more in that time than many top flight stalwarts did (and do) in a decade. Like others on here, I remember the silence as he struck THAT shot at Wembley, followed by the eruption that followed as it dipped under the bar. But there were many further adventures to follow the following season, including memorable goals at Liverpool, Newcastle, Spurs and Blackburn, plus the League Cup winner against Middlesbrough. The goals dried up in 97-98 though, and he ended up moving to Pompey and then Wolves as his powers started to desert him and others (primarily Marshall and Cottee) overtook him in the Filbert Street pecking order. Even so, his time with us coincided with a certain young Thai student taking an active interest in English football. Without his efforts, and those of his team-mates, Leicester City may well never have featured on King Power's radar..

It's been happening there since the 1980s at least. One of the reasons why I head for the Salmon when I'm in that part of town.

Ex Fox Calvin Bassey putting Fulham in front. Sweet..😎

He's stealing a wage, same as the players are. But there won't be a queue of quality candidates to replace him, given it's nailed-on they'd be stitched up by the "captain" and his cohorts on the pitch and by Rudkin and Whelan off it. We're reaching the stage where giving Andy King the gig for the rest of the season may be the only option available to the powers-that-be. 😟
-
Except he didn't. Three of the first-choice players (Fuchs, Kanté, and Okasaki) in the title side never played for him, while three others (Simpson, Drinkwater and Albrighton) were only fringe players. In addition, Mahrez, Vardy and Morgan all improved massively under Ranieri, plus Schmeichel was a Sven-Goran Eriksson signing. Even Pearson's own coaches admitted the great escape was largely down to Esteban Cambiasso's leadership on the field rather than the manager's off it.
-
Don't feel any sympathy for him, especially as he sees more money in a day than most Foxes will do in a year. As "captain", Vardy has been expected to set standards for his team-mates and fellow squad members. And so he has done - but not in the way we may have hoped. How can he call out sub-standard team-mates when his own performances have so often come up well short of the mark? He was over the hill two seasons ago and is even more so now. Anyone who can't see he is one of the biggest scammers at the club, is (as St Nigel might put it) an ostrich.
-
Except those of us who can look back well beyond 2010 know this is not true.
-
Knowing Rudkin as we do, there could well be a clause in Vardy's contract that states he has to start EVERY game when he's fit. RVN will also be aware of the tantrum Vardy threw when being subbed against Chelsea, which set off the chain of events that brought him to our club. The "captain" still has delusions that he can somehow spark the Great Escape Mark 2. But every game that passes sees the chances of that happening becoming ever more remote. Vardy has had his moments this season - most notably in both of the Spurs games and against West Ham and Brighton. More often than not, though, he's looked like a weak tribute act - a pale shadow of the force that once wreaked havoc on opposing defences. Hope he can make a dignified exit at the end of the season before his legacy is tarnished even further.
-
As, of course, is Jon Rudkin, who would have signed off this appointment.. Would like to think King has been fast-tracked into the position entirely on merit. But fear this may be another example of the culture of cronyism at work within our club.
-
As I recall, the Trust membership re-elected the leaders UNANIMOUSLY (or at least without any form of noticeable dissent) at the recent AGM. Breaking off relations with the club would have served no purpose, given that Whelan and co would still have been happy to give briefings to lapdogs like Cliff Ginetta and others.
-
Indeed, though Vichai made sure we only saw his good side whenever he came to Leicester. Skeletons or not, though, KP have kept season ticket prices (though not match day ones) relatively cheap compared to other Premier League clubs. This may help to explain why protests to date have been relatively limited and not reached the scale witnessed elsewhere (at Spurs, for example).

The Robert Peel's still about, though. It was my venue of choice for a lunchtime tipple while working at DMU back in the day.

Championship 2024/2025 Season Thread

David Lowe (ex-City striker from the 1990s) has the gig right now. He had a decent result yesterday, seeing off a Plymouth side who were flying after their two wins earlier in the week. -
But this mentality has been around the club for decades, long before King Power came on the scene. Prior to 2010, successive owners had offered generations of largely lower-league dross. And there are plenty of folk, even on here, who would rather see us win regularly at Championship level (or even lower) than seek to compete with some of Europe's top sides. The reset is not only needed within the corridors of the stadium and Seagrave. It needs to take root within the minds of those conditioned to believe that ambition and imagination are dirty words. That process will be tough and isn't going to happen overnight. But those who want far more than the drivel served up by Leicester City in recent times must continue to speak out. It's the only way of bringing the change we need. If we fight, we may not win. But if we don't fight. defeat is inevitable.
-
The protest was not "silly", nor has it "failed". It has drawn national - perhaps even global - attention to the discontent that exists within sections of the City fanbase. And that discontent will remain for as long as the current "director of football" remains in his post. Promoted several levels beyond his capabilities, Rudkin has sought to hide his glaring inadequacies by over-indulging key personnel at the club. His persistence with Brendan Rodgers two seasons ago and, with Jamie Vardy now, are just two examples of his severely limited powers of judgement. But he will not enjoy the spotlight that is now being shone upon him. Foxes must take every opportunity to advise him that the spotlight will not go away, until he does!
-
We had a transfer embargo throughout 02-03 and a very limited transfer budget - among the lowest in Premier league history - the year afterwards, during which we also lost Muzzy Izzet (our top player in that side) for several months through injury. Relegation was therefore not a total shock. But Micky Adams was burnt out by the summer of 2004 and should have walked then. Instead, he flooded the squad with has-beens and set the club back years.

But he had a lot fewer injuries to deal with! -
If you checked out the Foxes Trust website and read the match reports, you'd see many of the active members are anything but, "happy clappers".

Could it be forever before we stop seeing puns like this? Not that anyone under 50 will have a clue about them anyway.. 😄
