Butland isn’t an improvement on Schmeichel
-
Kasper is a fantastic keeper and is one of the top goalies in the Premier League. He saves us points time and time again. He makes so many worldie saves that we are used to it and think it’s the norm when it isn’t. He has weaker points like all goalkeepers. Kasper’s are definitely free kicks and to a lesser extent crosses. His issues with these are perhaps because for a modern day goalie, he is relatively short. Against this he has agility and a tremendous instinct when in a one on one situation, whereas other bigger keepers like say Courtois, dominate their goal and their area but can be slower getting down to shots. We’ve seen errors recently from other higher profile goalies like De Gea, Lloris, and Cech. He’s certainly better than the majority of Premiership goalies. Take out the ‘top 6’ team goalies and Pickford at Everton and look at who is left, he’s better and more proven than the rest of them. Look at Mignolet at Liverpool, Hart and Adrian at West Ham, Begovic, Forster, Foster, Butland etc etc he’s more reliable than these guys. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Anyone who says get rid. I say fine, tell us a replacement who is an improvement AND who is a realistic target for LCFC.

He’s got a great right foot, can dribble with the ball, plays the ball forward and is a threat on goal. He’s the former captain of one Portugal’s best teams, he’s got 20 caps for his country. He will be an improvement to our midfield. I’d expect him to start most games but also be part of a rotation system involving Ndidi, Iborra and Hopefully James. I would expect King or at times one of the U23’s to be back up should one of these four get injured.

Gray gave up in the 2nd half. He stopped even trying to track back. First half he was one of our better outfield players - 6, in the second half he joined the 4 brigade I’m afraid. -

So that’s saying Mahrez was worse than Simpson? That’s serious ??. As is Demarai’s ludicrously high rating too. No one other than Schmeichel was any better than a 6 imo. -

And yet he was one of our best outfield players today. That’s how bad we were. -

Just noticed this. Unfortunately for you I believe Shinji is married so this isn’t gonna happen any time soon. ?️?

Why are they still here? Because they are squad members. We can’t just have a team of 11. Hamer, The Dragon, Kingy, Slimmo are all regularly on the bench and have all had game time and some are an 1st 11 injury away from being starters. It’s the same at every premier league club.

The Mahrez haters need to sit in a darkened room and watch that goal against spurs on a constant loop until they accept that he’s a special talent and a vital member of our team. -
Bit different to having multiple strops during a match like Gray at WHam, one of which resulted in stopping to remonstrate and missing a clear opportunity to score.
-
There was a moment in the second half against West Ham when he didn’t get the ball back from Iborra (I think) near the edge of the box and he had another strop like the Mahrez one. He then did get the ball a second later in the box and let a simple pass roll under his foot and gave it away in a promising position. He has all the talent in the world on the ball, it’s whether he is able to use this talent to consistently benefit the team. That’s more down to his footballing brain and his attitude/mentality. Cutting these Rooney-lite strops out of his game might be a good start!

The Claude Puel Era - what will he bring?
funkyrobot replied to StriderHiryu's topic in Leicester City Forum
Thing is, it’s ok trying to play silky football but when you take on the best teams playing their way, they take you apart because they have better players also playing silky football. We’ve just had our attempt at short passing nullified by one good player (lanzini) and a bunch of hackers in a poor side that are struggling for confidence. We are better playing fast and more direct and utilising the pace of gray, Mahrez and Vardy. Pinging it around in midfield could be embarrassing when we play Spurs, when they have more (and better) players in central midfield. If we haven’t got the players to play a certain way then don’t try it. -
Ha ha. Top bantz. Zieler was useless for us. If it was on target, it went in.
-
He had one of them when he was still with us??♂️
-
Ineffective today, his off the ball running is still a concern as is his positional sense and his tracking back! I thought it was very generous of Puel to give him a full 90mins.

Maguire is a better attacking player than Hendo. The FA and club youth systems appear to love to churn out OPTA stat midfielders with impeccable pass completion because they churn out continual sideways and backward passing centre mids. Hendo, Livermore, Dier backwards, sideways, safe, one paced no movement. Maguire takes risks, looks forward, tries to beat a man. Feel sorry for him, swaps playing behind one turgid midfield at LCFC with one that’s even more turgid at England level.
