Don’t rate the keeper, don’t like Thomas - looks unfit and would struggle at Anstey Town, I don’t like the partnership of Okoli and Souttar. Neither are good enough on the ball. Souttar stopping when he wanted offside was absolutely schoolboy. Don’t like Skipp’s lack of pace, slow reaction tine and the lack of pace on his passes. Don’t like the fact that his backup is Hamza. Wasn’t encouraged by Burns - a pace merchant with apparently no pace, Cullen and BDCR are both lightweight absolute non entities. The only real positives for me were JJ, Braybrooke and Alves. Easily our 3 best players

The academy is functioning brilliantly. Probably the only thing that is. They have a fantastic training facility and there’s a proven pathway to creating professional footballers including a.demonstrated pathway to Leicester’s 1st team. The fact that our young lads are being poached by the likes of Man City is a compliment of the youth development process. These players would still be poached even if we were in the premier league, such is the pull to young lads and their agents of big 6 club. It is also a process that is wrong. You shouldn’t be just able to do poach from a fellow category 1 youth development club. There should be a set significant compensation fee (£20m?) and significant minimum sell on percentages to ensure the big 6 clubs don’t continue to get away with this poaching.

All he has to be is better than BDCR - and that’s as close to 100% guaranteed without me even seeing the lad kick a ball!

The modern young footballer will have their head turned by a big 6 club. The obsession with the big 6 in the media will have been with them all of their life and the reports suggest Page is keen for the move and has been courted by a few of them for a while . Not sure how Leicester could fight this off even if they were in the Prem. A sobering thought is that only about 20% of those of Page’s age who leave a club outside of the big 6 to join a big 6 club actually make the move a success.

He’ll be a lot closer to the first team here than he’ll be at Man U this season. The current set up with development teams means it’s very easy and relatively cheap for the big 6 to poach everyone else’s best players. It needs to be looked at to ensure teams are adequately compensated for this poaching. It’s difficult when a young lad gets his head turned by a club of that stature. Page obviously backs himself to get in their first team quickly and he’s certainly a talent. Recent history shows though that the majority that go through Man U’s development system don’t actually make it a the club. Hopefully there’s future clauses in the agreement that ensures we don’t get ripped off.

I think Tommy Watson will quickly become first choice if he continues to run and compete as he did today. I also hope Macfarlane comes good because our left hand side combo of Mavididi and Thomas has started under Martin just as it has been over the past two years. Negative, backwards and lacking intensity.

I don’t mind Russell ball but I don’t see BDCR working in any system tbh. Far too lightweight and lacks pace these days. Neat and tidy but that’s not enough for a nine, a false nine or a winger.

Other than one soft effort in the 2nd half BDCR wasn’t involved in anything today. He doesn’t offer any danger in a centre forward role. All he did today was 1 touch wall pass it backwards. Didn’t try and hold the ball up or alternatively run in behind.

I thought Alves looked good on the right! Beat his man on the outside and put some nice crosses in.

I thought Thomas, Souttar and Okoli all looked shaky. Mavididi was disappointing but The Ghost of Bobby Reid was almost non-existent again.

I guess this is the risk for a player running his contract down. A club can’t force a new one unless it’s written in to the contract. The benefits of running the contract to zero for an in demand footballer are financial for the player and the agent with them getting a proportion of the money that would’ve otherwise been used up in a fee as well as being free to choose their destination. The risk is a catastrophic injury like this one. Now there’s uncertainty and it might pay Nelson to sign a year extension to get himself closer to the value he would’ve had before the ACL.

It was Nelson that was the cause of the injury tbh. I thought he fouled the Genoa player. Went in a bit too hard and was a fraction late, missed the ball with his lead leg and twisted his knee. 😔
