martyn Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 If you want better deals, you actually have to be prepared to cancel your contract, not just empty threats. There are great offers there to be had. Cancelled back in April, was offered 60% off any TV package + £100 account credit through the post a couple of weeks back. Could have had 50% off any TV package within about 1 week of cancelling as well for those not prepared to sit it out as long.
klrice Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 NOW TV for me ,and just pay single payment to watch a match for £6.99, when the foxes are on sky sports ?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 NOW TV for me ,and just pay single payment to watch a match for £6.99, when the foxes are on sky sports ? That's what I do too. Also means I'll pay £5 for a month of the Entertainment Package when Karl Pilkington's Moaning of Life comes back in Autumn, get the first two episodes on demand and watch the rest in the month then cancel again. It's a good service if you wouldn't otherwise watch much Sky
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I don't want to implicitly say it, but there are ways of getting cheap TV, they are absolutely taking the royal piss now with the packages and the sheer expense of it all, Murdoch? Get fvcked.
Captain... Posted 19 June 2015 Posted 19 June 2015 I obviously had to get myself hooked up with Sky sports for our return to the prem, I have a mate who works for sky who got my a 12 months half price deal. That was running out so I phoned up to cancel saying I couldn't afford the full price, first they offered 25% off, and I said I still couldn't afford so they extended it for another 6 months without any contract obligations, I will do it again when it runs out. If they try and put it up I will just say I can't afford it and cancel. I can live without Sky, but I can afford £35 for Sky family and sports HD and on demand, especially for an Ashes summer.
Marmite Posted 29 August 2015 Author Posted 29 August 2015 Brought one of those Amazon Fire Sticks from Argos and my mate at work added Kodi on for me. I wish I had done this months ago, I would never pay for Skysports and Movies again. All the football and latest movies in the cinema now free
Marmite Posted 28 March 2016 Author Posted 28 March 2016 Ended up reconnecting my sky for the family package as the kids moaned about not having Nickolodeon, I am not in no contract this time and was told there has just been another price increase but mine will stay the agreed price. Maybe all the people leaving and using streaming is starting to affect them in a big way
stix Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 Not sure whether anyone on here will have the answer but.. I'm going up to stay with my sister this weekend, would I be able to take my skybox up there and plug it in using their existing dish? They have a dish and the connectors but they no longer subscribe to Sky. I have googled it and the only answers I get is in a situation where the place people are taking the box to also subscribe to Sky. I know lots of people take their skybox away with them when holidaying in the UK, in their caravan for example. Surely they don't pay for 2 subscriptions to be able to do this? Thanks in advance.

No mate, as its her tv it won't play. If you take your tv it will work though.

VLC86 Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 Cheers. Would it be better if I run a cable up there as well so I can use my leccy? That will work mate. In all seriousness I think you can just take your sky card and not the box but I may be wrong.

If you're a Sky subscriber your box will work. In the past I've taken mine with me in a motor home. I also had it working at a new address before I change my details also people take them with them to their holiday homes. I think it only becomes an issue if it's in a different location for a long time.

I've been told not to plug the box into the phoneline to eliminate the possibility of the box calling Sky. I only want it for the footie on Sunday. Thanks again all.

Legend_in_blue Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 Am seriously thinking of ditching sky altogether now. The only thing keeping me in is Sky Atlantic, I can get my sports elsewhere but as BT offer all the champions league football (and in ultra hd) which obviously is important for next season has got me thinking. As an infinity customer I might just go with them for everything and stream the rest that I need as and when I want it. When will sky learn than quantity over quality does not matter? As customers we should have a choice of what we want and not be drawn into a load of rubbish we don't need just to get the 10% or so of what we do need. F1 exclusivity in a few years is the final nail imo. Some incentives, now and again, would be good but they only appear once you drop something. Was offered sports for half price once ditched, sod that on principal. 10 years of paying out 25 quid a month and thats the reward? Forget it.
stix Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 BT UHD will only currently work with their box. I think it'll work if you have a Sky Q box as well but as far as I know the current Sky+HD box isn't good enough to produce 4K.

Fair point actually, i had mine in italy with me for 4 months and had no issues as it wasnt hooked up to a phone line.
Izzy Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 I ditched Sky years ago. My old man has Sky Go Extra which allows him to watch Sky on up to four devices. I use his log in details to watch Sky via my PS3, on my Laptop and on my I-pad. He uses the fourth device to watch it on his Mac when he needs to. The morale of the story is....find someone who's old and doesn't use new technology but has enough disposable income to subscribe to Sky, and then use their log in details

I think it'll work if you have a Sky Q box as well but as far as I know the current Sky+HD box isn't good enough to produce 4K. This is true. BT will do a 1tb box for 13 quid a month for their full entertainment package minus the extras ie. Sky sports and movies. Oh, and Sky Atlantic. Sky know this is a big draw and they'll never let it up or risk losing even more custom. The equivalent package on sky costs 40 quid a month, I have it. Ok, so BT may not have additional garbage channels that noone watches in addition to the main ones I've mentioned but at 27 quid a month less, it's decent value. Hence the reason for seriously ditching sky.

So that was cancelled, now with BT with Internet and tv and instead of paying over £100 a month now paying £46. Done me a favour in the end. And thanks to kodi/sky go with people's logins I can still watch all the sport anyway.
Legend_in_blue Posted 31 March 2016 Posted 31 March 2016 Do any of BTs packages cater for the kids channels? Seriously considering switching. Yes they do. On the full entertainment package you get all the disney channels, nick, nick junior, nick toons, boomerang, cartoon network and cartoonito. Compared with sky I'm not sure if any of these are covered by +1? I have found Netflix is great for kids tv also, worth a look imo. Legend_in_blue Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 They've just increased their prices again. A £2 hd package increase for a substandard HD picture is for what exactly? Cheerio Sky, that is the final nail. Once GoT is through, I'm out!
