Brenfox Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 I rang up to cancel & they rang me back constantly for days. Now I get the full package with unlimited broadband & a 2nd box for £53 a month.
Turtles Head Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 Cancelled everything last year, fully intent on leaving. They rang me back a month later, last day of my contract, gave me free movies and sports for a year. Signed up for another year based on that
Alexikokopops Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 when you cancel with sky do they come and take your sky plus box and remove the dish? Nope, you keep the box and the dish stays on your house.
Soar Fox Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 Sky profit up 9% taking them over a billion pounds. http://news.sky.com/story/1120639/bskyb-sees-full-year-profit-up-9-percent-to-1-33bn
johnny the fox Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 I've heard they have had people on the phone or online for 90mins as they try to cancel....my advice is don'rt bandy words with them, tell em straight then cancel your direct debit...
VLC86 Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 I was paying £78 for Sky TV, moved house and switched into the other halfs name and now pay less than half and get sky movies free for a year. It's laughable how bad the retentions team are and how they just seam to pull the price out of a hat.
Samilktray Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 We switched to Virgin years ago and haven't looked back since.
Larry_LCFC Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 We move across to Virgin for everything on Thursday. Always had TV with Sky and phone/internet with Virgin. Cant justify paying the outrageous SKY prices plus they go up again in June. Played Virgin and SKY off looking for the best overall package and Virgin won by an absolute country mile. Getting much more than I was and for over £40 less a month. Sky are an absolute menace when you cancel. The constant hounding and calling with not taking no for answer. I just hung up on the pricks.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 Nope, you keep the box and the dish stays on your house. Which of course means that you can carry on watching all the freesat channels.
Matt Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 We switched to Virgin years ago and haven't looked back since. We switched to Virgin last year but I thought it was awful, didn't like it one bit plus we were conned, they told us we'd get exactly the same package as we had with Sky, that included Sports and the HD channels, we didn't get those, they said they could put them on but it would cost more so I cancelled after about a day and went back to Sky, who gave it us cheaper than we were paying before, cheaper than it would have cost with Virgin and gave us free broadband for 2 years. Thing is I was discussing prices going up and up with someone the other day and they have to stop at some point, for example my LCFC Season Ticket is £450ish, now eventually with inflation that is going to hit £500 most probably sooner rather than later, i'm not sure I can justify that, £450 is about right (Well it's not but it's just about acceptable is what i'm saying) but hit that £500 and over mark that's getting abit pricey for me (I know its only £50 difference but you have to draw a line somewhere), the same goes with Sky and many other household bills, except you can (As has been discussed in this thread) bargain with the likes of Sky and get it cheaper. **I'm not trying to compare the two, I'm just making a link about inflations and drawing lines at costs.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 I'm left thinking that with the influx of smartTV and wifi boxes, surely Sky AND Virgin must be reaching a point where they will have to start dropping prices to keep customers, but maybe not enough of us are voting with our feet?
sphericalfox Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 After about 9 years I left Sky TV about 2 weeks ago. I had Virgin broadband and telephone for some good 6 years or so alongside and actually the price was competitive and not worth changing. That was until Sky kept putting up the prices every opportunity they got. The deal Virgin offered couldn't even be matched and Sky really didn't bother to try. It was pathetic. After years of being the market leader, facing serious competition for the sports now, and freeview, freesat, and all the rest including on demand online films and tv shows, Sky have had to crank up the prices to compete and try to produce material that's not just sport. I think the majority of that content is pretty shit tbf, so that and Sky Atlantic were not going to keep me.
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 Any recommendations on which android box to get? And is there subscription costs too?

It takes a bit of extra setting up, this vid shows you how.

Marmite Posted 21 April 2015 Author Posted 21 April 2015 Only cancelled this morning and they have emailed me asking to ring them to discuss if they can do anything to make me stay !!!!
hejammy Posted 21 April 2015 Posted 21 April 2015 I gave my 30 days notice to cancel a few weeks ago and they rang me back 2 days later saying they will offer me 50% off. I think it's worth the gamble and you can always just say you changed your mind if they don't call you by the 29th day.

I think it's worth the gamble and you can always just say you changed your mind if they don't call you by the 29th day. It does seem to be a bit hit and miss whether you get offers to stay or not. I remember cancelling mine and they didn't want to know until I'd actually left, then they emailed me on a weekly basis begging me to come back. Still a good move cancelling it IMHO.

Russell sprout Posted 22 April 2015 Posted 22 April 2015 After the recent increase in Sky TV prices I have finally decided to cancel it after 13 years, I was paying around the £100 mark and that was for everything including Sky Fibre and Line Rental. After a long discussion and them telling me I was a very loyal customer they offered me a discount of £10 !! I just ended up cancelling it and keeping the Fibre and Line rental for £26. I have been informed by a few people that they will ring you up a few days before the cut off date and offer you it for half price, anyone else had this? I was paying £100 another like yourself, Rolf them I was leaving and got me bill down to £65 a month which includes the full sky package, sky in my bedroom,Internet and phone aswell
VLC86 Posted 22 April 2015 Posted 22 April 2015 Only cancelled this morning and they have emailed me asking to ring them to discuss if they can do anything to make me stay !!!! Tight bastards won't even ring you?
davieG Posted 22 April 2015 Posted 22 April 2015 It used to be you need to cancel early in the week as they have a limited budget to play with and it soon runs out may still be the case.
