And you would still be denying they existed ;)

I could always be wrong but I'd be amazed if you found a quote of me saying there were no benefit fraudsters, migrant criminals or shit local authority policies in the world.

I think they're enormously overstated for tabloid sensationalism in the same way the Guardian's dickensian take on life as a poor person are both absurd and patronising but that's just mainstream media for you.

They're all looking to sell what people want to hear to them.

For anyone that's interested, Tim Farron is the new LIbDem leader.

Devout Christian, likely to shift the LDs back leftwards as per Ashdown/Kennedy, very impressive at building support in his own constituency....that's about all I know about him

Based on the couple of interviews I've seen, he seems quite passionate and articulate, but has an over-keen, rather preachy manner that could quickly annoy a lot of people, I reckon.

Private courier and delivery services. Go online and take your pick. All would be more reliable and cheaper.

More reliable? Have you had any experiences with Hermes or Yodel?

My new replacement phone was delivered by Yodel. Delivered the followering day after talking to Virgin. Not heard of them before.

I was expecting them and my neighbour was outside so they had nowhere else to leave it. The driver seemed OK to me.

Pretty much as I see him.

Didn't he vote against gay marriage? Surprising position for a Lib Dem leader to have, not that I think the liberals really have point now in 2015. All the battles they existed for have now pretty much been won anyway.

David Cameron speaking 3 months BEFORE the general election " Such a big pay rise for MPs is simply unacceptable when the rest of the country is suffering austerity ! I oppose such a pay rise and I myself will be rejecting this increase "

David Cameron speaking just over two months AFTER winning the general election and just two weeks after announcing a 4 year 1% pay freeze for public sector workers and a pay drop for over 13 million low paid workers due to his long term economic plan of austerity , said yesterday " Personally I think the right thing to do is to be paid the rate for the job , and that’s what I will do , so I shall accept ."

Lying, two-faced, duplicitous scum.

Same people moaning are cool with it when the SNP do it though lol

I'm glad he's grown some balls and decided to take it, if that's what the independent comission thinks then they should be paid it, they have been underpaid for years, up the salary and makes the expenses they claim tighter.

Love your sig as well Ken, 4 years of rising employment and not a peep, first time it drops you do that lol

Presume you now believe the figures as its bad news?

Bit harsh. I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable plausable explaination as to why he should say one thing to the voters of the UK in the run up to a General Election and then say another thing which contradicts it  to fellow MP's after a General Election.

There always is. :)

As Matt has said, he didn't give himself the payrise, it's been deemed and worked out by an independent commission. Do you think Miliband would have accepted it? How much do you think the PM should get paid then? You do realise that CEO's of many charities you tend to champion, earn far more than the PM, with many on over £150,000 a year right?

I'd imagine most of them take a pay cut to get into parliament. The salary still lags behind similar countries.#

The Greek politicians have some bollocks lol

Jesus, the Italians too. Though you could probably attribute most of that historically to Berlusconi covering his bunga bunga parties in the past lol

MPs are underpaid.

So are nurses but they get 1% rise.

Regardless of whether they 'deserve' it the fact is that before the election Cameron said he would reject it and after said please please give it me. If it was a Labour PM that had done that there would be a lot of people calling him a two faced greedy bastard but we all know Torys nevwer think of themselves first.

There was one complaing of counting the pennies on 90k a year then IDS saying anyone can live on £7 a day when he claims £39 for a breakfast which is paid for by the tax payer. I'd just like them to be honest sometimes.

That chart just shows that the average person wages are a lot less than MP's in all countries. I wonder how much the committee that decide their salaries are on.

Nidge nudge 'Reccommend 10% for us and theres a few quid in it for you, Will it be OK in a brown paper bag. Meet me in the Motorway Services of your choice for the rest but dont tell the papers.'

:) OK OTT but it is done in football so why not politics?

Mhairi Black criticises Westminster's 'silly traditions'

_84484897_84276867.jpgMhairi Black was praised for her maiden speech in the House of Commons

Westminster must decide whether it is a museum or a functional parliament, according to the UK's youngest MP.

Mhairi Black, aged 20, was elected as MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South in May amid a wave of SNP dominance in Scotland.

Her maiden speech in the House of Commons became a viral hit, racking up millions of views.

In an interview with The Times magazine she said she was still getting used to some of the intricacies of Westminster.

On the issue of the no clapping rule in the House of Commons she said: "So you're not allowed to clap like an ordinary person, but you're allowed to bray like a donkey?

"I mean, see PMQs, especially the Conservative side, they've got this weird noise they do. It actually sounds like a drunken mob."

The SNP MP said Westminster had to choose between being a museum or a functional parliament because it is "constantly swinging between the two, and quite often they are at odds".

She said challenges by her party to established parliamentary convention often came about by accident rather than a deliberate attempt to rebel.

"It's the same with a lot of these silly traditions. Quite often, we challenge them because we're oblivious to them, because they're so ridiculous. Any normal person would be like 'What?'"

She also suggested the tradition of having to vote in person, rather than electronically, was outdated.

"Are we genuinely saying that the Underground can log millions of travellers, day in, day out, without a problem, and 650 of us can't hit a button?

"It's just stupid. A couple of Mondays ago, I didn't get home until half past midnight because we were voting. How is anybody with a family supposed to work those hours?"

Ms Black admitted the moments she hates most at Westminster are those in the chamber, where "you just hear folk talking so much guff".

She also spoke about the issue of Scottish independence, saying Scotland was giving the British parliament once last chance with its referendum result last September.

She said: "I'd have another referendum tomorrow, but it's not up to me. It's up to the people of Scotland, and I think people are finding their feet and they're finding their confidence."

The wife's a nurse, although she wouldn't reject a payrise, she is very happy with her rate.

I see the Telegraph  did a story about a high profile MP being in hospital with a broken foot on a Sunday and there being noone to do X-rays thus hinting that an health minister. was correct  there is a need for 24/7 in all departments because staff do  not do the hours. They had to print a clarification the following day when it turned out that he went to  a A&E hospital who do not have the facilities he required. If he went a few miles down the road he would have got the treatment.

A junior consultant sends his payslip to Jeremy Hunt to prove he is paid less than the minimumwage. A petition with over 150,000 signitures prompted a commons debate.

_84614215_edballs2pa.jpgEd Balls said he took his election loss in May "on the chin"

Former shadow chancellor Ed Balls has attacked Labour's approach to business under Ed Miliband.

Mr Balls, who lost his seat in May, told the Daily Telegraph it was "no secret" he thought Mr Miliband had to position himself better with business.

In the interview, Mr Balls said he had not been in the "core campaign team" around Mr Miliband for the election.

He added that since the election he had turned down an offer to appear on ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

"I'd already subjected myself to one high-profile public vote this year, and I wasn't really sure that I wanted a second one," he said.

'New chapter'

On Labour's approach to business going into the election, Mr Balls said he had publicly supported the energy price freeze pledge, even though he thought it allowed the party to be seen as "anti-business".

"What I didn't like was the language giving the impression that energy companies are the bad guys," he said.

"If you allow yourself to be anti-business, or anti-bank or anti-energy company, people think, 'Hang on a second, you have to work with these people if you want to govern.'"

Mr Balls said he had to "take it on the chin" that he had not been able to persuade people he could run the economy.

He lost his Morley and Outwood seat in West Yorkshire to Conservative Andrea Jenkyns by 422 votes on 7 May.

He revealed that among the messages of consolation he received after his defeat was a "very nice" text from Chancellor George Osborne, but nothing from David Cameron.

Mr Balls said he was not now tempted to return to front-rank politics, having spent 20 years as Gordon Brown's adviser, then an MP and cabinet minister, before being shadow chancellor on Mr Miliband's front bench.

"I'm not going to the House of Lords, and I'm not planning to go back to the Commons," he said.

"It's a new chapter for me and there will be something for me outside politics."

Since the election he has turned down offers of work except for part-time academic posts at Harvard in the US and at the London School of Economics.

On the Labour leadership contest, Mr Balls said his wife Yvette Cooper was standing as a candidate because she is "there for a purpose".
