Bettsj2 Posted 16 June 2015 Author Posted 16 June 2015 Love it when people say "we can do better" to virtually every signing or rumour. How much do people think we have to spend!! £26m
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Love it when people say "we can do better" to virtually every signing or rumour. How much do people think we have to spend!!Why would we not have plenty to spend? We'll make another fortune on the latest TV deal. I would assume it's there if we want to spend it. What we don't want is another two thirds of a season like last one.

We didn't spend that much last season and earnt 71m from TV rights alone. We must have banked a fair amount and another 70m or so this season means we should be well placed financially.
Babylon Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Why would we not have plenty to spend? We'll make another fortune on the latest TV deal. I would assume it's there if we want to spend it. What we don't want is another two thirds of a season like last one. The new TV deal hasn't kicked in yet, so we're getting what we got last year and we spent just over £20m. I'd imagine we'll be in a similar ball park again this season also. The point I was making, was that to pretty much every single link someone has said "we can do better". We aren't going to be able to spunk £6m-£10m on every signing. There are going to be signings like Sako, light Albrighton last year, who are free or cheap to fill out places in the squad. In a perfect world you buy only players who will start in the first 11, but this is the real world and we don't have an infinite amount of money. So yes, we could do better than someone like Chester, or Sake. But we might not be able to for any number of reasons, the most obvious being the financial side of it.
hackneyfox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 We spent just over 20m, wonder how much the wage bill increased by? Received an extra 65m in TV rights? An extra 4m in ticket sales? Increased advertising and sponsorship? Surely we turned a very healthy profit last season.

Wage bill was already pretty big before we added players. Add in the fees and I'm not sure there would be a huge amount left.
Bagworthblue Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 merchandise sales in Thailand shouldn't be underestimated either. They have a population of 67m. If you can get 0.5% of those to buy £50 p.a worth of merchandise (shirt etc) that's an extra £17m alone.Bear in mind the foot fall through the airport shops. A couple of Eastern players would extend the interest in LCFC beyond Thailand also! Look at how many fans we have from Croatia because of Krameric, Poland due to Was and Belgium due to Ritchie and their nations are fairly well catered for in the prem. The far east are not heavily represented in the PREM so a few good eastern signings could dramatically increase our fanbase and kids wanting a shirt in those countries! it's no longer about how rich the owners are but the revenue the club can generate to remain the right side of fair play regulations

psychonaut Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 The spend question is the wrong one. How many better footballers do people think want to come to Leicester? Exactly this.. although I think we're a much better proposition than we used to be. Bar London, Manchester and probably Newcastle I think our city/surrounding area offers as much if not more than most. Centrally located - close to everywhere ain't it
Liamlcfc1 Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Told he has enrolled his kids at Leicester Grammar looks nailed on

Bagworthblue Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 I'm pretty sure no one out there supports is in Belgium because of Ritchie De Laet. ok bad reference although a few of his fans did come over and buy shirts. The main point is that there is a market to exploit in the East and a lot of £s potential if we can get them buying our shirts and not Man U or Chelsea

In a way Thailand now have a viable alternative to the big clubs and I'd hope over time in the same way as kids over here are switching allegiance, the Thai's will too , adults and kids as they feel Leicester are 'one of their own' have 'Amazing Thailand' on the shirts and hence have a reason to support us.

I would love it if I saw more shirts out there when I go back in September I did see a woman wearing one in Pattaya shopping mall which did make me laugh a bit, but the longer we stay in the prem the more chance it will grow as according to a survey done a while ago we are the 16th most popular team in Thailand

lgfualol Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 Ergh every time someone posts here I get a little glimmer of hope that there is new information regarding a transfer.

Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 Ergh every time someone posts here I get a little glimmer of hope that there is new information regarding a transfer. Yeah, if you want precise information you should only look at the twitter thread
Captain... Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 I'm pretty sure no one out there supports is in Belgium because of Ritchie De Laet. Mr and Mrs De Laet, that's 2 and if they each spend £8.5m p.a worth of merchandise (shirt etc) that's an extra £17m alone.
Renart Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 Ergh every time someone posts here I get a little glimmer of hope that there is new information regarding a transfer. I have no new information. Sorry.
Swiper Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 I've learned not to get excited until I see that a transfer thread is locked.
Bagworthblue Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 I've learned not to get excited until I see that a transfer thread is locked. and then it's cos QPR just signed em!
Spiritwalker Posted 18 June 2015 Posted 18 June 2015 Sometimes after reading a couple of pages I have to go back to the thread title to see who it was we were supposed to be talking about.
