Jimothy Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 Is Eric Dier injured? Surely he must have been in with a shout at centre back ahead of Moore and Gibson.

Jimothy Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 He withdrew himself from the squad because he was being used as a RB and wanted to be a CB but couldnt get that position. That rings a bell now actually. But surely with such a lack of decent centre back options he would have got his wish this time.
kingcarr21 Posted 25 June 2015 Author Posted 25 June 2015 That rings a bell now actually. But surely with such a lack of decent centre back options he would have got his wish this time. Management deemed Stones, Moore, Gibson and Chambers ahead of him in the pecking order. In hindsight it may have been worth having Dier in as CB but tbh he never looked that great at Spurs anyway. Everyone hyped him up cause he scored a couple of goals early in his Spurs career (i believe on his debut) but in actual fact he is bang average.
Dan Posted 26 June 2015 Posted 26 June 2015 Know a Spurs fan who disagrees and is convinced that he'll be in their defence for years.
kingcarr21 Posted 26 June 2015 Author Posted 26 June 2015 Know a Spurs fan who disagrees and is convinced that he'll be in their defence for years. Lets hope so. Playing for Spurs in the Premiership will only do him good.

He's 21; just because he's not the full package yet doesn't mean he's 'bang average.' Bags of potential there.
kingcarr21 Posted 26 June 2015 Author Posted 26 June 2015 He's 21; just because he's not the full package yet doesn't mean he's 'bang average.' Bags of potential there. Of course it does. Surely if he isnt the full package then that would most certainly make him average but he is bang average AT THE MOMENT. I never said he couldnt improve or doesnt have potential.
davieG Posted 26 June 2015 Posted 26 June 2015 Joey Barton says English football is 'rotten' after Under-21s' exit The culture of English football is "rotten from top to bottom", according to former QPR captain Joey Barton. Gareth Southgate's England side went out of the European Under-21 Championship at the group stage with a 3-1 defeat by Italy on Wednesday. "There is a problem with the Premier League being a lot stronger than the Football Association," Barton, who won one cap, told BBC Radio 5 live. "It makes it impossible for England to build good teams." FA director of elite development Dan Ashworth defended England's selection policy for the tournament, despite a number of high-profile players not featuring in the Czech Republic. Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, Arsenal midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere and Manchester United defender Phil Jones were among those eligible but not called up. "Those players are established internationals. It's like being a first-team player and asking them to come back and play in the U21s. It's not necessarily the right thing to do," said Ashworth. But Barton, a free agent after being released by QPR, countered: "As some players get towards the top, they say: 'I'm too good for the 21s, because I've been in an England senior squad and I don't want to go to a tournament because I need to rest.' "They're not available because they're saying 'it would be better for my career not to go to this tournament', or their managers at club level are saying 'we're not going to do that'. "The FA should just say to them 'look, if you don't make yourselves eligible for an U21 campaign if you're selected, then you won't be considered for the national side for however many years'." Though England went out at the first-round stage for the third successive European Under-21 Championship, Ashworth's predecessor Sir Trevor Brooking said young English players are not behind the rest of the continent in terms of ability.
Jimothy Posted 26 June 2015 Posted 26 June 2015 Of course it does. Surely if he isnt the full package then that would most certainly make him average but he is bang average AT THE MOMENT. I never said he couldnt improve or doesnt have potential. But he's no more "bang average" than Ben Gibson, Callum Chambers, or our own Liam Moore. He might not a John Terry, or even Chris Smalling yet, but non of them are, and I don't see how any of them are ahead of Dier in the centre back pecking order for the U21. Chambers after a promising start really tailed off last season, worse than Dier. Gibson plays in the Championship, which to a lot of people automatically puts you on the back foot in terms of selection, and by most people on here's admission Moore was shite last year. I just don't seen how Dier isn't second choice centre back for the U21 behind Stones.
Dan Posted 26 June 2015 Posted 26 June 2015 Barton can be a twat but I definitely think we could do with some more players with the kind of desire he has. Often says it how it is.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 28 June 2015 Posted 28 June 2015 Germany got a thrashing there... who saw this final
Rincewind Posted 28 June 2015 Posted 28 June 2015 Did you know Joey Barton has a degree Phylosophy I think. Saw it in a Secular newsletter.

I just don't seen how Dier isn't second choice centre back for the U21 behind Stones. Obviously the coaching and management didnt see it that way. They must have believed that Dier as a CB isnt as good as the others. If he was they would play him in that position. They're not going to put Dier at RB if they think he is good enough for CB. They know alot more than you or I (well they should do anyway). Its easy to ask these questions in hindsight. I dont think playing Dier would have made a difference anyway. I just love the fact that when Moore played we let in 1 goal over 2 games then as soon as the amazing Stones returns they drop Moore and we let in 3 terrible goals.
Rincewind Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 I think that's probably about hys level. I shall have to add a spellchecker. I guess you know what it was meant to read or do I have to retype it?
Leicesterpool Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 What does Barton know about international football
Rincewind Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 What does Barton know about international football Don't know but he can can have a good debate on the subject 'Is death a good thing for the person that has died?'
