Dan Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Pochettino for England. He's the one who seems to get form from English players
FrankieADZ Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 England have been awful the last 3 under 21 tournaments. knocked out in the group stage in them all. if Southgate is a useless manager, kinda proves it tbh. no bottle to pick plays with creativity...dark age tactics imo also Southgate bottled it in not selecting the best possible team he could. why wasnt Barkley there etc? this is why we wont win anything.
BoyJones Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Don't look hungry enough. Life is too easy. A 21 year old should have to graft a bit for his money / rewards, everything nowadays handed on a plate, they don't seem to know how to knuckle down when the going gets tough. Just a bunch of losers who continually let their country down. I am sure they were all laughing and joking a few minutes after the game.
Wymsey Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 That's probably Southgate gone soon then, the FA and some of the pundits had high hopes for the team in this tournament. Wouldn't be surprised if Stuart Pearce came back.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 I await the inevitable from some that there'll be an over-reaction but really it's just further evidence of what a decent number have been saying for a while. We are woeful and we're getting further from the genuine top sides rather than closer. When the FA stop making cop-outs, when they start having footballing expectations, when people accept we're shite and stop falling for the paper that's over the cracks. The thing is, there should be an over-reaction. Southgate had more than plenty to pick from in this tournament and failed miserably. Is it down to coaching? To lack of ambition / drive to win an U-21s tourney from the players themselves? Christ knows but if a man who's managerial record is toss at best manages to get our national job I'll weep. Massive failure this and there should be no lack of criticism to coaches and players alike. You get jumped up ***** like Lingard giving it the routine after a fluke win against Sweden to then eat their words quite comfortably the next game. The fact that we as a nation seem so ready to give the big gig to Gary Neville purely because he isn't a completely dogshit pundit says it all about the state of coaching in the upper echelons in this country. DOGSHIT.
Guest MattP Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Lack of ability + lack of desire - a deadly combination. Unless we change the culture of English football expect this to continue, unfortunately I think we're past the point where we can, the will to bust a gut to play for England has gone now from our up and coming players, it will take a generation to fix. They'll be ok, be more interested in checking how many people have favourited their tweets than the result. What I'd give to be back to the days of this........these days it's what Raheem Sterling would look like if he was told he had to play for England, not miss a game.
Guest MattP Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Yet again our ridiculously overpaid, over-hyped kids crash and burn. Like the senior team. How long does this have to go on for before we look like actually winning something? A long time, we're heading down the route of Scotland and until people stop believing the Sky Sports hype we're not moving.

Guest Cujek Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 It's not all bad news, Gareth Southgate is second favourite to be the next England manager after Gary Neville........ This makes me sad.

Aus Fox Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 We need an overhaul from the bottom to the top bring in people who know and understand football and how to play the game. People who have experienced playing at the highest level not just in England but across Europe. England will never progress at any level with the likes of Stuart Pearce and Gareth Southgate leading the line.
RedHux Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 Aidy Boothroyd is the U20 manager, imagine if he got promoted. Personally, I can't see us progressing as a nation whilst the FA employ coaches like Boothroyd. The days of hit it long, chase them down, big man up front etc are long gone. Last night even the most simple passes would go astray and on two occasions players tried to move forward with the ball, stop and drag it back but failed and the ball rolled away from them. It's just simple stuff that would infuriate any sunday league manager and should never happen to a professional.

Matt why do you think it hasn't happend to other nations players?, spanish players, german players, all get huge wages and are all over social media, yet still have passion and desire when they play for their national sides.
RowlattsFox Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 I could take a group stage exit if there were signs of development in style of play or direction but there isn't. Lack of English players coming through at the big clubs means they don't get the opportunity to play and train with the best players. More than half of the side last night played in the Championship last season, and even the ones like Chalobah and Lingard who do 'play' for big clubs are never going to make it. Chelsea and Man City are now starting to have English players in the under 16s/17s/18s so hopefully a couple of them will break through.
kingcarr21 Posted 25 June 2015 Author Posted 25 June 2015 Last night was embarrassing. All over the pitch we were weak with the ball. So many wayward passes. Ings was terrible. Chalobah is an absolute disgrace. Awful player. I laugh that Moore gets dropped for the saviour Stones (who yesterday on the radio was touted as the best U21 defender in Europe ) and the defence goes to pot. Awful goals to concede. I laughed when all the usual hype before the tournament was going around. 'We will win it for sure we are amazing'. No, im sorry but we are doggo. Quite simply the players don't play a high enough quality of football. The championship shouldnt be the standard of player we are using for a major tournament. Its a joke. Why the likes of the Ox, Barkley etc dont want to play in the U21's ill never know. Once again our managers bottle it when it comes to playing our best 11. Not only that but having Ward-Prowse on the bench who is arguably our only regular prem player is just laughable. If Chalobah is on the reported £30k that just shows exactly whats wrong with the English game. Our younger players are paid too much too soon. They believe they have already done the hard work and are an established player with nothing to improve on. They have no drive, no desire, no ambition and its sad to see. My biggest hate is the lack of criticism that golden boy Kane is getting. The media seem scared to sound him out to what he truly is, A very limited footballer. Yes he had a brilliant season and fair play to him but i wont accept he is the next big thing until he proves he can play really well consistently. Some of the descriptions of Kane you see in the media is just cringe. Then we come onto Southgate. Quite simply not good enough to take us forward. We need someone who can motivate the players, who stands on the sidelines giving encouragement. Who would be the best person for the job? I dont know, maybe some on here could give some ideas. Lets face it Chalobah only played cause he is a Chelsea player on £30k. Shocking that England are forced to play the players at bigger clubs instead of the player best suited to the task. Hodgson picking Man Utds Jones over Southamptons Clyne at RB is a prime example of this. The state of English football is just shite from top to bottom.
davieG Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 Looks like the plan is working After 56 years of hurt - England will win the World Cup in Qatar - or at least that's the target FA chairman Greg Dyke has set today. September 2013
Leicesterpool Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 If Adkins hadn't have joined Sheffield United then I think he would have been a great replacement for Southgate.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 The main English side are too desperate to win something/be good that any half decent player- Barkley as an example is elevated straight to the main side. I don't think its down to lack of talent, more that they don't get the opportunity to play together consistently as the Germans did before 2010. Other countries are more geared up to assisting their national side whilst we strive to please the PL due to the financial rewards. I think people need to accept our national sides are shite, lower any expectations ten fold and start again. We have an albatross round our necks in thinking we deserve to win something because we created football.

purpleronnie Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 It would help if we took our best team though.....that'll be the day
Finnegan Posted 25 June 2015 Posted 25 June 2015 It would help if we took our best team though.....that'll be the day Define best. If you mean taking established senior players like Sterling, what's the point in that? Just holding back other people from getting an u21 shout.
