LCCFox96 Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Do people really want to sign Essien? He was brilliant a few years ago, now he really ain't. I assume he's still on biggish wages too. I think we can now do better. This. He's also very injury prone. We could do a lot better with a younger addition in my opinion.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 This. He's also very injury prone. We could do a lot better with a younger addition in my opinion. Completely agree buddy. I'd like to sign a DM (if we go down that route) who we can develop ourselves and who is still hungry with a point to prove. That's why I have admiration for Cambiasso. He could have come here for a paycheck, instead was still hungry and proved his point.... In terms of helping us to stay up. Would Essien be the same? Well players like Cambiasso don't come around often.
RizLCFC Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 I'd rather we sign Cleverley then Essien, he's way past it!
4everfox Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 I really hope our pursuit of Essien pays off as we know we were linked in January and if the rumours are to believed about us going in for him again, well, why not. I still think though Esteban may yet sign another deal but he will want some post-retirement assurances I would assume; namely coaching position or some such thing. Much better shout then some of the dross being spoken of on here, like Joey bleeding Barton.
Bryn Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Essien is done. I approve of signing experienced players, but not him, he based his career on his athleticism which has deserted him.
Robin JD Popley Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Fair enough everyone, perhaps Essien isn't the player he once was but I doubt we will sign Pirlo as some people think we will. All I know is Nigel has said he won't rule out a Marquee signing and he went after him in January. I have no doubts though come opening weekend of the 2015/16 season we will have a different calibre of player to the ones we saw signing last season. Look at Bournemouth. A club I greatly admire but their transfer policy seems to be not too dissimilar to ours last summer. They may have got three players in as many days but only Federici probably has the attributes to still cut it at the top.
Danno Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Tom cleverley would be a great signing. Better than all of our current midfielders.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Tom cleverley would be a great signing. Better than all of our current midfielders. What! Including Cambiclasso? Careful......
Danno Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 What! Including Cambiclasso? Careful......Cambiasso doesn't play for us anymore.
Finn Claw II Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 At least we could play guess the guess Essiens's real age game. Oldest member of the squad including Schwartzer?
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Cambiasso doesn't play for us anymore. Has he left the club then?
MC Prussian Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 Cambiasso doesn't play for us anymore. I'd suppose his contract runs until the end of June. Technically speaking.
ScouseFox Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 essien would be a disaster. tom cleverly is shit. don't leave esteban
TMELcfc Posted 28 May 2015 Posted 28 May 2015 essien would be a disaster. tom cleverly is shit. don't leave esteban This... I think il cry if he leaves, genuinely...
Leeds Fox Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 I know I'll probably get laughed out of the place for this... but would anyone take Colback from Newcastle. From what I saw/read, which admittedly was fairly limited, he was the only player to give everything for Newcastle. Chipped in with a few goals. I'm certainly not saying he would replace Cambiasso, but he'd be a solid addition to our midfield, especially with James out long term too.

thybluefox Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 those pricks know feck all Tbf though, he is the only player thats consistently pulled their weight for them this season. He's not a replacement for Cambi, but from what I've seen of Loftus-Cheek he'd be an excellent loan move to replace James until January.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 30 May 2015 Posted 30 May 2015 Gutierrez released by Newcastle might be worth a shout. Has something to prove, scored a goal to keep them up.
