We were linked with him before he signed for Everton. He is on a 3 year deal and was one of their best players last season, won't happen!

Can I remind you that Cambiasso joined on a free transfer. There may not be a lot of similarly talented midfielders out there available for little money right now, but you just have to look at other options where contracts are running for just another year (many of them have already been mentioned). And they don't have to be that expensive, either.
