Of course many of these organisations are consumer brands seeking to monitor "buzz" and gain insights into consumer likes, dislikes, preferences and opinions on products and reputation (and also to monitor their competitors) so that they can refine marketing messages and steer product options and pricing. They will also monitor rumours to seek if things are -ve they need to counter... or if things are leaking out that are supposed to be secret. (They may even give suspected leakers "barium meals" - I.e. some false rumour to leak to see if it emerges.) Many organisations will plant rumours an opinions into the social media world - by feeding "influencors" who will pass them on. That's life. Everything is filtered through a supercomputer System which is set up to flag calls and emails once certain words or phrases are mentioned. If anything suspicious is found then you make it onto the watch list were someone, if you're lucky, will physically glance over what you have been doing or they might even listen to a call or two....
