kingcarr21 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Annie-Zaidi/story-26890935-detail/story.html A great read. Must have been so hard for her to get to where she is today. She will be an inspiration to our young female footballers at the academy.
Mark_w Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 There's a thread on Foxes Talk, so I fully expect her to shorten to 10/1 on all the major betting sites any minute now.

StanSP Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Love how the mercury tries to big this up... And I guess I get why... But can't she just be a woman who loves football? Same. I find some of it comes across very patronising. It's great that she's made it in to what she's loved doing and after the struggles she's perhaps been through, but there seems to be an over-emphasis on it all.
Towelie Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I read this as Coach Arnie and got excited that Arnold Schwarzenegger was todays hot favourite!

I cant help but feel that the only way people will be truly accepted for who they are is not by drawing attention to the fact that they look a little bit different ( headscarf) But by just letting people blend in. I remember when i was at Lancaster boys many moons ago, there was 2 footy games going on at lunch and i joined in one of them. Got to about half way through when the ball came from one game into ours. I picked it up and handed it back to the person who ran over to come get it. He looked at me and said " traitor" and grinned. and pointed to who i was playing with then ran off. He was joking. I think. I didnt realize it until he mentioned it to me but i was the only white kid playing in that game. All others were of the Asian/indian/ Pakistani family bloodline. For some reason only then , after it had been pointed out to me did it make me a little bit uncomfortable. Until just a few minutes later when i missed an absolute sitter and i was a div again and we all carried on again laughing and joking.
les-tah Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Im sure even muslim women cant wear hijabs when playing The bottom line is woman like football the mercury have bigged it up because she is muslim.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I read this as Coach Arnie and got excited that Arnold Schwarzenegger was todays hot favourite! I was thinking Gunnlaugsson!
SouthLondonFox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 My two boys have been playing at the club in Brixton referred to in the article since they were toddlers. She used to come down on the train from Coventry to coach the kids on a Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours and catch the train back. Since she got the job at Leicester, she's still made it down when she can. When I couldn't get tickets for the last game against QPR, she picked up a programme for my son (the only Leicester fan at the club) without me asking, brought it down the next week and wouldn't take any money from me. She's a star...
Leeds Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I read this as Coach Arnie and got excited that Arnold Schwarzenegger was todays hot favourite! We can call him Schreki, purely for ease of spelling!
thybluefox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 People saying they've only picked up the story because she's female and muslim? Well no shit. Articles like this show other young people that these things are possible. The more people that are seen to be achieving things like this, the more will want to follow suit, and that can only be good for sport.

No. It's the over-emphasis on it not the fact that they've just 'picked up' on it.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Only this forum could turn this into something negative
