Weller in Tights Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 again too slow, nobody knows the words and sod all to do with leicester. having something more modern ie; 90's onwards, least you have the advantage of people knowing it.Too slow!!You are kidding me. The problem is many of our fans try to sing everything at 200mph. As for it being old and us needing something more 'modern', why? Never heard of tradition? Slow down sing a song/ chant clearly. For example the drummer even does the: Da, da, Da, da, da. Da, da, da, da. Leicester Far to fast. What's the ****ing rush. Bertie Mee Says to Bill Shankly Have you heard of the Northbank Highbury Shanks says no I don't think so But I've heard of the Leicester Boot boys Oh sorry can we not do that because you don't know who Bill Shankly or Bertie Mee is and you've never heard of Highbury? Do some bloody research. I'm very happy to sing/shout new songs/chants. But please, let's keep some of the old traditional songs alive. Blue Army
Buce Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 The version I recall: Once upon a time, there was a Spion Kop, Where we used to sing a song or two. Remember how we passed away the hours Watching the boys in royal blue... Those were the days, my friend, We took the Stretford End, We took the Shed, the Norh Bank Highbury. We lived the life we choose, We'd fight and never lose, Those were the days, Oh yes those were the days...

It's all well and good having a few half decent generic songs to sing but its the unique and traditional songs that we seriously lack. All the top fans in the country sing unique club songs, especially on away days. The new chants thread is full of ideas (most of them terrible) when more should be done on reviving songs/ chants unique to the club. WYS
C-man Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 It's almost as if people are embarrassed to be seen singing and as such are so desperate to get through the song they sing it unaudibly quickly.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 If we sang them slower they'd last longer, we'd be more together across a bigger section and so would have more impact. I agree that everything is sung/chanted too quickly.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 If you speak to the older lot the original line was 'The Leicester'. Other than that I think baker is spot on. I agree
Vlad the Fox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 mighty bid**^^^ Yes, your right, my mistake. That's how I used to sing it for years until I realised I was wrong. , '....they all make a mighty bid'
AndWhat? Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 What ever wins in that poll will be the version I sing from now on. Time to get this song sung properly!
Kitchandro Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Genuinely think some of us should get together an record a new version with the fans singing it. Union FS have a good relationship with the club now - maybe we could do something to get it, or at least one of the old decent versions, played pre-match?
LCFCtotheprem Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Just listened to the jersey budd version and he sung "when your crying, you'll bring on the rain..." Whereas I have always sung "when your sighing", which is right?
SemperEadem Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Just listened to the jersey budd version and he sung "when your crying, you'll bring on the rain..." Whereas I have always sung "when your sighing", which is right? Lyrics to the song are 'crying' but most Leicester sing 'sighing'.
GlennyFox55 Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Think we're lacking an anthem which people can belt out to try and get the boys going when we're particularly flat and the fans too. Obviously you can't really create an anthem over night so should we be doing more to promote WYS.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 I'd love us to really establish WYS as our anthem almost like B'ham with KRO and MOT with Leeds. If we play the song pre match at the ground that'd be good, especially if it's played regularly as more and more people will come familiar with the song and the words. A champions league night with WYS being sang by all four stands of the ground pre match would be amazing.
GlennyFox55 Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Playing it pre match and printing on clappers/programmes would help raise awareness of wys.

Yeah or the words of the song in the concourses, as that was mentioned in the thread about the concourses being redesigned at the end of the season.

coolcol Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 I am now a converted Leicester fan of 27 years standing, having moved from Belfast. When I first stood on the terraces in the Kop I was absolutely blown away by WYS. The end of the song when everyone's hands went up and down impressed me as I thought it was so unique. I even wrote into the fox fanzine a few years later because I was so blown away. It helped in those days as everybody sung as they were standing and there was no embarrassment at all, whereas some fans these days get self-conscious singing in their seats. One of the main reasons that it was sung brilliantly then, is that It was sung loud and much slower than now. Singing songs loudly and at a slower pace I think is much more memorable...just listen to the Spurs fans on Wednesday when they slowly their " Oh when the Spurs....." anthem. In addition I believe everyone needs to know the lyrics as at present it sounds like an embarrassed mumble all the way through.
Len Finsbury Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Printing the lyrics on the clappers is a good idea. Youcouldprintthemlikethissoeveryoneknowshowfasttosingit.
mid devon loyal Posted 25 January 2016 Posted 25 January 2016 I always thought it was 'once upon a time there was a spion kop'were we used to throw a can or two
