Voll Blau Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 That ought to help the state of the game in this country eh? The phrase "football sector" makes me want to vom. A revolutionary grassroots football programme in China is set to receive a £3 million funding boost, supporting thousands of young people, the Chancellor has announced today (23 Sept 2015). Speaking during a visit to the Soong Ching Ling Football School in Urumqi as part of a weeklong tour of China, the Chancellor announced new funding to provide training for over 5,000 new football coaches, significantly increasing Chinese awareness of the thriving football sector in the UK. The extension of the highly successful Premier Skills football coaching programme, run by the British Council and the Premier League, will also see it reach the rural province of Xinjiang for the very first time. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said: "Grassroots football plays an instrumental role in UK life, and it is brilliant to be able to spread that to China. This fantastic scheme which will bring new opportunities to young people across China will also help bring increased awareness and investment into the UK football sector." "The deal we’ve been able to do here is just one example of the ways we can work together with China to benefit both our nations – and I look forward to seeing the results." The initiative, which started in 2008, focuses on creating new coaches and referees across the world and inspiring young people to get involved in football. So far the programme has trained 1,100 coaches and reached nearly 500,000 young people in China. The deal we’ve been able to do here is just one example of the ways we can work together with China to benefit both our nations – and I look forward to seeing the results. The announcement follows a new agreement between the British and Chinese governments to work together in developing sports education including new collaborations on sports policy, the training of coaches and referees and a new joint accreditation in football coaching for PE teachers. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/major-uk-funding-boost-for-grassroots-football-in-china
purpleronnie Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Our government. Fvck me. Any most others too.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 China is minted. Why are we giving them £3m worth of football?
Matt Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Do other countries ever give us any money? Seems like we bail alot of other countries out but never get anything back, bearing in mind we've got our own problems. (Probably a discussion for another thread/topic but the questions still stand)
C-man Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 What a slap in the face for the grassroots campaign. Why would this ever pop into anyone's head as a productive use of taxpayer funds? Cough money laundering cough.
lgfualol Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 China is minted. Why are we giving them £3m worth of football? In exchange for some more dead pigs for Cameron to diddle.
Nick Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Are we perhaps missing the longevity of such an investment on multiple levels?
Voll Blau Posted 23 September 2015 Author Posted 23 September 2015 Are we perhaps missing the longevity of such an investment on multiple levels? Yeah, China should have a cracking squad for the 2038 World Cup. Might support them as we'll get nowhere near qualifying.

Benji Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Woo woo woo Britain First police alert. It's PR - Osborne is travelling China to encourage trade and investment in our economy e.g. contributing to a billion dollar nuclear plant (cue the anti- nuclear / business / Tory posts). We have a rich football history with one of the most watched and renowned leagues in the world - why not use it to promote our country? Do you really think one of the fasting growing economies in recent years is desperate for a £3m donation for a community project from us? It's a gesture of goodwill.

Well in that case they will probably see a measly 3 million as some kind of insult and start wánking in our noodles.

(Probably a discussion for another thread/topic but the questions still stand) We don't bail China out. China are the biggest geniuses on the planet. They realised ages ago they're not going to beat the entire West in a physical war so they waited till we were skint and bought everything. First they started making all our shit then they started buying all our shit. My favourite part of the great irony is that we went over there and showed them how to build huge power stations, GEC, et all. Now they build and own ours.

If I was you I'd take a detailed look at that Nuclear deal, the government is guaranteeing price per kilowatt far above the market rate and the total subsidy put into it by the UK will be billions, I agree with energy security but I don't think that this should be at any cost. On the football investment I'd say it's hardly a big deal, they'll probably spend half of it on hiring British coaches.
bovril Posted 24 September 2015 Posted 24 September 2015 Now they build and own ours. Running the risk of being called a 'lefty', it makes me titter somewhat that Jeremy Corbyn is derided as a crypto-Communist who doesn't have the best interest of our nation at heart and then... ooh hello Chinese government fancy building a nuclear power plant in Essex?
MooseBreath Posted 24 September 2015 Posted 24 September 2015 £3m is nothing when we're talking about billions of pounds worth of Chinese investment coming into the country. China are the boys with the cash to spend, if all they want is a few football coaches then it would be ridiculous not to accommodate them.

Guest Posted 24 September 2015 Posted 24 September 2015 They're having Britain train 5,000 coaches? That should delay any world cup hopes a solid 50 years. #cunningplan

Well the government took it upon themselves to announce it so they obviously consider it newsworthy.
