The Politics Thread

TBH I was surprised Cameron used it at the conference. He must know what Corbyn actually said and how the video made was taken out of context because his original words were  public knowledge. Even  some posters on the FB Tory page said they were tired of the mud slinging some saying Corbyn does not need Cameron's help he can feck up by himself. They had posted the video and underneath someone had posted the unedited version so it was very hard not to see what had happened.

Interesting. No doubt somebody will find stats to refute this. Labour membership has doubled since the election. Are the Tories more scared of them than they make out hence the smears and scare stories?

Who was Cameron really having a go at?

Anyone who hasn't should given Panorama a watch this week should do on I player.

Tom Watson has some serious explanation to do with what he's accused people of in the HOC.

Here's one for you, Matt: one of your least liked politicians expressing admiration for one of your most liked....

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/oct/09/mhairi-black-interview

"[Mhairi Black] declares an unexpected liking for Jacob Rees-Mogg. “I could sit and listen to him all day, I disagree with him 99.9% of the time, and that wee percent is just because he’s got good manners. But I love listening to him, his knowledge is incredible, and he’s so polite.”

What a cnut!! Shock exasperation! Gasp! What does he mean? Does he support ISIS or summat?

Saw it on FB. Considered posting it here then thought it better if I did not. Hope it goes viral just for a little balance.

Sorry how does an edited speech taken completely out of context compared to what JC actually said create balance?

Have you read the conversation that Corbyn's quote is taken from? It's out of context. It's exactly the same that's why.

They were both taken out of context. It is just a little harmless tit for tat.

Boris Johnson also said that it was a tragedy that Bin Laden was not brought to trial a few years back.

Corbyns actual words are widely known

It is a shame bin laden wasn't put on trial, him being killed by US forces doesn't help anyone. I don't see how saying that makes anyone think you have sympathies with the anti west/terrorists.

I'm sure she's not the only one, his speeches are absolutely marvellous, I make a point of searching Hansard every week now to see if he has spoken then I'll try to find it on Youtube. The only people who judge him are the ones who do so on his accent and they no better than people who would judge someone on the colour of their skin.

This story gets worse, it does now appear it was an attempt but a small group to try and link a peadophile ring to Thatcher. I'll be surprised if Watson manages to see this out as I'm sure there is more to come.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/article4582028.ece

The man who initiated paedophile claims against Leon Brittan admitted yesterday that he was “right up for witch-hunts against rightwing Tories”.

Chris Fay, a former social worker and Labour councillor in south London, passed allegations about Lord Brittan of Spennithorne to Tom Watson, now the Labour deputy leader, who has led the campaign to expose what he claims is a “powerful paedophile network” linked to Westminster.

Mr Fay’s apparent admission of a political motive will increase pressure on Mr Watson, who has faced criticism over his role. He put pressure on police to investigate Lord Brittan, the former Tory home secretary, though several of the accusers he cited were later discredited

Trickle down doesnt work. The selling off of industry to the rich hasnt worked, its time to nationalise industry again.

Trickle down is like a hour glass. It is turned over before the sand reaches the bottom.

Pigeon shit on the other hand always falls on those sitting on the lowest branch of the tree.

Isn't this stat irrelevant because of the amount of people becoming members just to vote in the Labour leadership?

Since the General election which includes the time before it  was known Corbyn was running for leader  and since he was elected.

There were quite a few joined in the first week he became leader many more than those who left.

We had a conversation in the pub today, does anyone still take the current Labour party seriously?

One guy was adamant he still did but the general consensus was they are now a joke.

I can't take them seriously now. It's an embarrassment of a political party, , I feel sorry fo tthe long term member.

Posted

I'm not sure I ever took them seriously, but it's going to be an interesting few years that's for sure. I'm open to all sides of the political spectrum whilst an exit to the EU may be on the cards and I'll go with whoever I believe can bring about our exit from the union.

I take them more seriously now than I have for a long time. The current "money is God" Tory mentality is quite a modern thing, and when people wake up to the fact that it isn't working for them as individuals they will feel angry first, and then they will look for a better way. The current Labour Party is already there, perhaps their only fault is that they are there too soon.

Posted

I find it sad that when politicians talk about a fair society, equality and respect and compassion for all they are considered  as a joke. I do not see those traits as political  but  moral.

See this is what I don't get.  Apart from the entitlement brigade, who are these people that are suddenly going to wake up and realise the current system 'isn't working for them'?  Believe it or not we currently have one of the best standards of living in the world with economic growth accelerating, wages growing and inflation flatlining.  Why would any sane working man or woman vote for Comrade Corbyn exactly?

In terms of my own experiences, 'Labour' and 'Corbyn' have now become punchlines quite frankly.

That's because Corbyn means 'fair' to his vested interests and rent a mob friends.

You speak as if every political leader doesn't have such vested interests.

Very true ,but Corbyn supporters seem to think he's different, when it seems obvious he isn't. e.g Abbot, his son, shadow chancellor etc... All jobs for the boys

The Labour party are in the place the Tories were before Cameron.

Hague, IDS, Howard all made a complete balls up of leading the party handing general election victories to Blair (especially the 3rd term).

They'll probably go through another leader or two before someone decent turns up.

Politics is always the same at the end of the day. The tories will eventually start screwing everything up, pissing people off and turning them back to Labour. It always happens and will happen again. It'll probably start when Cameron steps down. Not Osbourne, May or Johnson are anywhere near PM material.
