MooseBreath Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Nah, I'm not biting. Surely you can improve on the only answer so far which is to compare temporarily being selective about who you let into your country with ordering mass scale genocide.
leicsmac Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 He should be droning the **** out them like compassionate liberal Obama, people might not be so bothered. I'm reasonably sure that if he had the executive power it wouldn't stop at just the drones.
Rincewind Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Anyone see the video of a Fox News report that had a judge on saying that all Americans should arm themselves with guns, rifles machine guns and be ready to use them on any Muslim?

The former of those (restrictions on travel and obligatory ID cards, both of which have been suggested by Trump) were stepping stones on the path to the latter in the past. Now that might be a slippery slope fallacy, but is it really best to take that chance?

I don't know, but saying that this one step is likely to lead to "Hilter-esque" genocide does seem like a pretty big stretch.
leicsmac Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 I don't know, but saying that this one step is likely to lead to "Hilter-esque" genocide does seem like a pretty big stretch. It is a big stretch, and I don't think anyone really expects it to go that far. But even low-level institutionalised discrimination like this (like the internment of Japanese-Americans) has been viewed in a pretty dim light by history, and with good reason.
The God Emperor Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 It does seem like an ineffective soloution. As far as I'm aware it's generally not fresh off the boat migrants that are radicalised but the children and grandchildren of people who moved here donkeys years ago. Trump saying something idiotic is nothing new, but wanting to ban him from ever entering the UK is equally stupid. 'Gasp!' a public figure expressed an upopular opinion! Someone fetch my fienting couch!
AKCJ Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 I don't know, but saying that this one step is likely to lead to "Hilter-esque" genocide does seem like a pretty big stretch. Yep, good job nobody said it that though isn't it?
Guest MattP Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Pretty big news from Venezuela this week where socialist rule has came to end (well if hasn't officially as the president is refusing to go , but the voters have given it the heave-ho), something I didn't think we'd be seeing anytime soon, a "super majority" as well. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/dec/09/venezuela-election-opposition-coalition-secures-supermajority You have to hand it to the opposition, it's always an effort to win a election but to win one when your politicians have been arrested, any media friendly to you are imprisioned and the state television channel is a propaganda network for the ruling government it's even more impressive.

On Tuesday he visited Chávez’s mausoleum in the hillside slum where the government suffered a shock loss in Sunday’s vote. Accompanied by members of his top military command, he accused his opponents of sowing discrimination and class hatred, cautioning workers who voted for the opposition that they would regret their decision to abandon support for the government. “The bad guys won, like the bad guys always do, through lies and fraud,” said Maduro. Sounds familiar.
Guest Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Trump airing his views in the States is less offensive that the ultra right votes teaming in here in France this week.
Guest MattP Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Same the World over. It's great though, if South America is turning away from socialism it is finished, they should as well, how can a country with such oil reserves oversee such poverty, sure Cameron will mention it next week, Corbyn can't stop telling people around Westminster how good it is for the people in Venezuela, he must be speaking to the wrong ones.

AKCJ Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 You said it was Hilter-esque Absolutely. I didn't say that he was about to likely to start a genocide though, did I?
MooseBreath Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 Absolutely. I didn't say that he was about to likely to start a genocide though, did I? That's what Hitler is most famous for. If you're going to compare somebody to somebody else, expect people to assume you're talking about their most well known characteristics. What did you mean then, when you said it was Hilter-esque?
Guest Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 Absolutely. I didn't say that he was about to likely to start a genocide though, did I? You are falling for the biggest WUM on the board.
Darkon84 Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 it's a fair question to ask in which way he meant it though. Moose has a point. Generally, people that throw out statements like 'worse than Hitler' etc, are the ones with least understanding.

If he was being serious he would have written a well thought out post arguing his point. When he wums (new verb) he just writes one liners.

AKCJ Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 That's what Hitler is most famous for. If you're going to compare somebody to somebody else, expect people to assume you're talking about their most well known characteristics. What did you mean then, when you said it was Hilter-esque? You know perfectly well what I meant. it's a fair question to ask in which way he meant it though. Moose has a point. Generally, people that throw out statements like 'worse than Hitler' etc, are the ones with least understanding. I didn't say he was as bad as Hitler anywhere, nor did I suggest he was about to embark on a genocide. I think people need to look up the word "esque" and realise that it doesn't mean "exactly the same as in every single way".

When he wums (new verb) he just writes one liners. I wasn't wumming. I asked a question which, considering the strength of the negative reaction against Trump's comments, should have been easy to answer. The aim was to show how people are conditioned to react to certain triggers without thinking about the issues for themselves. Here we see a very strong negative reaction, but no simple explanation as to why.
