No offence, Thracian, but the only person I've ever known to be as verbose as you, lived on a diet of pure amphetamine.

And you think if everyone lays off they'll suddenly turn into moderate nice guys? There were well-meaning people felt like that about Hitler. Sadly they were wrong. If Hitler didn't have an excuse, he'd make one. Can you honestly not understand that? Even "innocents" are used as an excuse - and a means of dividing the opinions you mentioned. It's why they take hostages and put them where they're bound to become victims. there's nothing new in it and nothing new in people choosing not to see anything they don't wish to see.

And just the latest evidence to confirm the above:  http://www.iraqinews.com/iraq-war/isis-imposes-house-arrest-families-ramadi/

They were always going to delay it given Goldsmith is campaigning for London mayor.

****ing pathetic political cop out on Heathrow expansion by the Government. Just get on with it, we all know it is going to go ahead. Jesus Christ.

Pathetic indeed but not surprising. UK Government of all persuasions have been plain awful at providing any sort of infrastructure for a couple of decades now. The worst thing about this is that they set up a specific commission to make a decision and still failed to make a decision. I don't care if they build capacity somewhere else but just make a decision either way and get on with it for crying out loud.

Realistically we will need both Heathrow and Gatwick expansion, they should bite the bullet and do both.

He might well quite the party when they give the go ahead anyway, so waste of time IMO.

The Tories used to be the party that didn't shirk the tough decisions, it's getting to be a bit of a habit now. They've got another 4 and half years to go before the election. If they can't make unpopular choices now then when?

It irritates me to hear the soundbites yet so little constructive argument on both sides.

For instance one guy complained about being approached to sell his land to build a car park and the supposedly massive ecological impact of all those vehicles in respect of noise and air pollution.

He may have other arguments but that one could have been shot down in an instant because, by the time the car park was built any vehicles will make no noise and emit no pollution.

I'm being bombarded daily with share tips and the certain prediction that before very long at all we'll all be using noiseless electric or other environmentally non-polluting vehicles and we're not talking 50 years down the line but now and rapidly increasing until it'll be the norm 10 years from now.

Electric points are being installed all over the place and I took a ride myself in one of the latest Tesla's myself this week and both the concept and the ride were awesome.

Acceleration pushed me back in my seat belt like a jet aircraft taking off and was akin to a F1 car. I've never seen the gap close quicker on a car sauntering along half a mile in front of us. No noise, no gear changes, no hands necessary ....the distance was eaten up in seconds. Nought to 60 in just over three seconds I think it was.

Lift the bonnet - no engine. Just a space. Distance on a full charge 160 miles (forget the 240-miles boast of the maker). Recharging form your own solar panels or power points found by keying into the internet. The downside relates to the batteries. They are damned expensive if they need replacing and will probably be leased so I was told by a mechanic (now fearing for his job).

Multiple benefits all round apart from the mechanic and the technology getting ever cheaper at a rate of knots.

The decision on Heathrow and any other infrastructure needs to be made and quickly but it also needs to be based on the future needs and future trends rather than historical ones. It's not nearly as easy a decision as people pretend but surely the answers ought to be becoming clear by now.

They hardly seem to consider future trends and technology at all. The fact that we're giving away most of our roads to cyclists says it all, as if the bicycle is the future of transport. We seem to have taken pandering to minorities to new heights. When you visit the far East these days it's like stepping into the future, that's how far we've fallen behind in respect of infrastructure.

Tbf if we lived under the Heathrow flight path we might feel different.

Just make a decision one way or the other.

I really agree with this, one of the reasons people vote Tory is because they usually produce a government not afraid to take tough unpopular decisions that are in the long term national interest.

They should get on with it, it's ridiculous a country like ours still has it's major airport only having two runways, so out of sync with other major cities and countries.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sick of seeing politicians filmed coming out of their house with a bike.

It shows how progressive they are.

Didn't John Profumo start that?

Why do you need a car to nip to the local chippy?

Because it is raining, and by the time you've got back, the chips are cold and wet.

The kids start crying because they are hungry and soggy chips are gross. This makes the wife mad. And that means you are not getting any sex.

Bikes are shit. Cycling is shit. Anyone who says they enjoy it are (Tyson Fury moment coming up) closet gays who just love the lycra.

Every time I drive past a cyclist they look miserable as sin. Get over yourselves and get a car.

Probably the most accurate post I've ever read on here, and I include my own posts in that

Cycling is fine as a form of exercise, but why on earth would you ride one as a day to day vehicle unless you were too poor to run a car or even afford the bus?

Combining exercise with getting to work when they don't have much time?
