NotTheMarketLeader Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Of course going towards end of last season we stuck with just three at the back and at least we managed to keep clean sheets, at the moment our two full backs in our back four aren't working. De Laet can really be clumsy at times and Schlupp for me isn't a full back at all. I miss Wasileswki. This
st albans fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 How many goals had we conceded after the same number of games at the start of last season.. Less than this I'd bet? 10 2-2-1-0-3-2
weller54 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 10 2-2-1-0-3-2 4 less than this season then.. That's a remarkable stat...
The Doctor Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Twelve actually given that we're seven games in, not six. We'd scored 11 and conceded 12, this season we've scored 15 and conceded 14. Defence isn't that much worse, although the bigger concern is the teams we faced in that run vs this.
Babylon Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Last season we kept 5 clean sheets out of 9 with 3 at the back and still looked good up front. By contrast, this season we've looked very vulnerable at the back. We even conceded 2 v Sunderland after completely battering them. I look back at those clean sheet games and remember quite a few sitters missed by the opposition. In several games we were lucky not to concede early. I'm not averse to trying it, but I think people will be disappointed as it won't be the problem solver they think it will.
Walshy5 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Must be tried now. Yesterday was a disaster waiting to happen. Morgan and Huth can't play together in a back 4.

Know where you're coming from but the lucky bit doesn't really count ... If we had been lucky yesterday we might have been 2 nil up ! ... But we weren't. We know we can bang in the goals but defensively we have a problem .. Look at our goals against. So while we look for an answer (drop X, play Y, or buy Z) it's got to be worth a try.
RichMC24 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Must be tried now. Yesterday was a disaster waiting to happen. Morgan and Huth can't play together in a back 4. Unbeaten in 8 games, cup and league. One game against an Arsenal side that really turned it on and we still gave them a game. How does your brain even come up with this stuff ? Pundits, media, Arsenal fans commending a fantastic game of football by two sides playing wonderfully open attacking football. Our record this season W3 D3 L1 and you want to rip up the team sheet, change formation and personnel after concluding that our current team isn't producing the goods. What the **** is the sky on your planet ?

What the **** is the sky on your planet ? Think you've got to balance this .... Yes our record is fantastic but likewise our last season turned when we (amongst other things) put three at the back ..... I think this would be a good alternative against some of the more free scoring teams without making for a "boring" game

What the **** is the sky on your planet ? Im not denying its been a good start but the defence has been shocking. We dont have the right personal at CB to play a back 4. We're shipping goals at an alarmimg rate and we cant just carry on hoping we can just out score the opposition. It wont work long term and im sorry but i dont see conceeding 5 at home as acceptable no matter who we're playing.
RichMC24 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 I don't agree. Take yesterdays result out and we have conceded an average amount of goals so far. Its better than average when you consider the attacking style of play and the fact no-one (including Arsenal) have scored more than us. I agree that five goals against isn't great but Arsenal just had one of those days. They were brilliant. I would give it some time before we start changing formations to solve a problem that isn't really there. I would also look at the trend of games. To say the defence has been shocking is really unfair given that their brief is to attack. Who really wants to park the bus and lose 1-0, which we did last year for so long. Crack on, score a few, let a few in and lets entertain. Long may it continue. No need to change unless the goals dry up and points become sparse. I think that given the amount of cover the defence are getting from midfield, I'm amazed how well they are doing :-)

I think that given the amount of cover the defence are getting from midfield, I'm amazed how well they are doing :-) When we played 3 at the back in those last 9 games we still played in an entertaining way and scored goals, but we shipped very few goals. It's obvious that it suits our squad better because Schlupp and De Laet are not solid full backs but are natural wing backs. Albrighton has developed into a more effective wing back than De Laet, and we also have Dyer now who could compete with / complement Schlupp. Given that we also have better striking options this season, plus Vardy is in imperious form, and a more flexible midfield, there is no reason to think that with 3 at the back we can't shore up our leaky defence without compromising our attacking ability and entertaining style.
Steven Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 Even Ranieri himself, when he took over, said we were better last year with three at the back. Time to go 343 again. Shmikes, Wasyl, Huth, Morgan, Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater, Jeff, Riyad, Vardy, Shinji/Leo/Kramaric This.
dannythefox Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 Waz Huth Morgan need to be in for Saturday we've been shit at the back every game this season. Ulloa also needs to start with vardy.
