ajthefox Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 We've been hearing "we just want 40 points" etc etc for a while now, and although we may be in a more difficult run of games at the minute, it's fair to assume we will hit this relatively soon. There's been so much fuss about this 40 points thing, and the team have stuck to it publicly so strongly that when we do hit the target, you can bet every reporter is going to ask how far we can go. But what is the next target that the club will openly declare us to be working towards?? 40 points has long been the target for relegation candidates, but there has never been another such widely accepted benchmark for any another position in the league. And although we might secretly be aiming for the CL, I think with the way we continue to be discredited by much of the press, we would only end up being ridiculed if we came out publicly and said that was what we want to achieve. Say we have 40 by the time we've played Bournemouth on the 2nd (A conservative estimate on current form). Even if we got 1 point per game from the remaining games (essentially relegation form), we would finish the season on 56 points. Surely, we must be aiming for 60 plus at least? Going back to 2010, 60 points would have us 8th at worst, 6th at best. Thoughts?

bluebeau Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 I think that privately Claudio & the guys will be aiming for a top 4 finish but I don't think they will say this publicly. They might just say something like "We are aiming to finish as high up the table as possible". Again, privately Claudio is not going to tell the guys to aim for a top 10 place or even top 6 because this might cause the team to relax & sit back thinking that they could easily achieve that? They must aim as high as possible & continue to stretch themselves to the limit. IMO if they carry on performing as they have done so far, top 4 is definitely realistic & top spot is a possibility. Let's hope they do it &shut the doubters up!

I have a feeling Mr.Llama's comments will be exactly what Ranieri says. "The next 3 points" or something like that. It's the right way to think about it.

Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 15 December 2015 Posted 15 December 2015 Think the target should be top 6, it's realistic and achievable, if in 15 games time we are top still top 4 then maybe the goal shifts again. We aim for top 4 and don't make it then the best season in most fans living memory will be a disappointing one even though it's been the best one, and that just can't be allowed to happen.

We're no longer facing threat of relegation but the objective is still 40 points. Logically the next objective for the season is 50-60 points and a top ten finish then we set another objective. The entire point is taking it game by game.
