Was Ranieri wrong to repeatedly talk about 40 points?

No! Vardy is coming back from an injury Mahrez has gone off the boil a bit in part because teams are working out how we play Mahrez, Shinji, Vardy had 4 men around them every time they got the ball. We haven't suddenly got better defensively, but teams are now focuses on stopping us scoring rather than scoring themselves. The result is we are being limited to fewer chances and we may need to adapt our style. Saying that had Mahrez put away those two penalties we would be 5 clear at the top.

No need to panic, nor start pointing fingers we are top and the players are still giving their all.

No, I don't think he should have set another 40 as our target now though. I understand why, and don't think it makes a great deal of difference but it does just add a little bit of extra pressure.

Whilst I completely agree that safety was our no.1 priority this year, I wonder if Ranieri constantly talking about it in interviews is now having a negative effect. It just seems that the more sure we have been of staying up, the more the spark disappeared. We have definitely lost our mojo!

It's almost as if the players are playing like they have achieved their goals and nothing more is required of them.

Maybe some new legs will help get us going again?

Oh no. The wheels are falling off. Vardy's going to join Man City. Oh no.

It seems that he's experimenting with the formation a bit, perhaps unsettling some.

Why change a winning formula etc.

Panic.then panic, then more panic,

Today I seen players, not manager, miss a couple of sitters, must be Claudios fault, lets go witchhunting..

No one in this thread said anything about the wheels falling off. Or about vardy going to anyone.

No one is panicking. No whitch hunt either. Just wondering if he didn't set the bar high enough for some players to stay motivated. That's all.

That was just to the media behind closed doors it was probably different

Media is subconscious context for players , they still pick it up

He Was being realistic

Do I think he was right to stick to that line ? yes I do

It's all that mattered game one !

And being safe is all that will matter in May

No he wasn't. A more appropriate question would be was he wrong to say he wanted us to get 40 more points out of the second half of the season alone?

I was popping in to say that's exactly his mistake, because from anyone's point of view that looks a steep and far off target - 40 points over a season, doable, every team could believe that at the start of the season. Getting 40 points over half a season - no one targets that.

He would have been much better at this stage setting incremental targets... let's get to 50 points... If we get that, go for 60... then 65.

I agree I think he made an error of judgment saying that. He should have said the next target is 43 points, then 46 and so on and so forth.
