Buzzell Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 I swear we're all gunna wake up and realise it is all a dream and Leicester will still be battling on in mid-table of the Championship with Elvis Hammond leading the line, Rab Douglas between the sticks and Gareth Williams and Stephen Hughes pulling strings in midfield. 'Pinch, pinch' No its not a dream. :d
filbertway Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Well that's my point. It's not just a flash in the pan or a flukey season (even if we are battling relegation this time next year) the owners and NP have been striving towards this since Pearson came back to us. He built the cake along with all the other staff, Ranieri is just doing the icing and cherry on the top (no mean feat by any stretch) I'd say a more apt analogy would be that Nigel built a great kitchen ready to bake a cake that could enter a national competition. Then Ranieri has taken that kitchen and is baking cakes that could win a world cake baking competition
UPinCarolina Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 35 rep for the OP has got to be some sort of record, right?
Babylon Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 35 rep for the OP has got to be some sort of record, right? Not even close! http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/best-content/ I still love no.3
UPinCarolina Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Not even close! http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/best-content/ I still love no.3 Thank you for posting that. The Pearson "WTF" badge nearly had me in tears.
Babylon Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Wharfer, I'd like to read more of HOW we're doing it if you ever feel like expanding on it. I've seen the question asked so many times on other forums and I've been wanting to expand on it myself but never have the time. People always seem to look for one or two things that make us what we currently are, but there is so much more to it. You touched on elements like giving players times, same goes for Pearson through some bad runs. Then all the things we know about like the scouting, the team ethic and spirit Pearson left behind, all the things behind the scenes like huge investment at the training ground, to relay exact replicas of the pitch, with under soil heating etc. The brilliant sports science department that keeps players so injury free (not luck as everyone else thinks)... there have been so many elements coming together to get us where we are now.
Dan Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Wish I'd not read that. I'm getting scared Super read.
SecretPro Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Wharfer - get this submitted to the Guardian. They will print it.

Thank you for all of the positive feedback guys. I enjoy writing for myself every so often but so glad that other people appear to enjoy it too! There were so many reasons that weren't even included in the piece, and that's the point... this isn't just a lucky fluke, it's a combination of so many factors that have built over time to lead to this! Reasons IMO not included: We've coincided with a change in approach in football generally. It seems after years of general belief being that a passing game was the way forward, today is the time of the counter attack. We just so happened to be doing that already pretty effectively Team spirit. I didn't want to mention Pearson too much as I know (absurdly IMO) he can divide opinion. But he always talked about the right characters and that's a major part of the scouting set up too I believe. The spirit in that camp is there for all to see and cannot be underestimated. Sports science has meant the set-up off the field has kept us injury-free for so long now. Arsenal are looking to poach the wrong department of our backroom... Kante. He's genuinely worth two players. The amount of possession he recovers is incredible but then he drives forward with it too. I always thought the myth that he couldn't pass which was being trotted out when he first joined was nonsense and so it's proved. Our fans. Just look at the difference between us last season and Villa. We never gave up on the team and nobody in that stadium from April last year could argue that it doesn't make a difference. Ranieri's tactics. We're winning by the odd goal here or there at times but we never look uncomfortable in the dying minutes as we have in the past. The man knows how to defend a lead and see a game out. Players willing to follow his instruction without question obviously helps this. Shakespeare and Walsh must have also bought into this whilst providing the link between past and present. Confidence. Being a part of that team on that run last season must have led to a widespread belief among that team that nothing is impossible and no cause is lost. Having been through that horrendous run together and come out of the other side must be hugely beneficial. The defence. Priority number one is solidity. Morgan's time away with Jamaica playing top class opponents can only have helped. Fuchs is so calm, Simpson is proving a point and Huth is a rock. Luck. There's no doubt that to do what you've done we needed a bit of luck but then it also helps that our disciplinary record has been great and we have had a couple of bits of misfortune to contend with (Villa away most recentlt). Chelsea's implosion and Van Gaal's messing at United has presented an opportunity for us to take. I've probably missed a million more factors. But the point is, this is not completely inexplicable as the general consensus would have you believe...
Foxxed Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Fantastic writing. I'd happily read other stuff you've written, about football or otherwise.
MaxLERenard Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Disappointment = High expectations plus poor performance. We hoped for, not expected, survival at 40 points ... how can any LCFC fan be disappointed with whatever we achieve this season?
billyfox1 Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Probably needs to add a few more spelling mistakes first. The basic things they get wrong in their football section is shocking. They'd probably give it a headline 'The Unspoken Leicester Tigers Dream' and then print it in the cricket section
Spudulike Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Disappointment = High expectations plus poor performance. We hoped for, not expected, survival at 40 points ... how can any LCFC fan be disappointed with whatever we achieve this season? You would think that but the nearer we get to a Champions League place or even the title itself (now I've said it) the greater the disappointed if it's not achieved. I'll be gutted if this is 1963 all over again (not that I can remember it).
ARM1968 Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 You see this is why I feel like I'm on the most insane roller coaster ride of all time. So far it's just been climbing up and up and up...................

Although I believe Arsenal will draw with Man City on 7th May when we beat Everton, making Chelsea away "party time!"
Hibernian 1875 Posted 5 February 2016 Posted 5 February 2016 Really well written piece. I'm a Hibs fan and I'm following the Leicester situation very closely. Everyone wants you guys to win that league, and you can!! Very interested to find out more about how it all went from so bad to so good. Cheers.

Holloway and relegation to 3rd tier was the "so bad", don't be fooled into thinking that being bottom of the Prem was that "bad" as the team always gave 100% last season, played well (remember Wenger's comments about City being amongst the best teams to visit the Emirates) but missed by small margins, never outplayed. That's why the crowd were so much behind the team for the incredible run from March. The tactics changed when we were in the last chance saloon - do or die. The work rate was always there and so the fans were always with the team.
