Buce Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 I'm sorry I don't hate for the sake it. You realize those two extremes are not the only options, right? There are points of view in between.
The Railway Man Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Any move from a constitutional monarchy to a republic or other system would require very careful planning. Anyway, very few people want such a change at the moment. That might change after a few months of King Charles III's interventions, of course. King Charleses don't have ended badly before, haven't they.... Support for a Republic is at it's lowest for years, less than 1 in 5 (19%) would support us dropping the Royals. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/apr/19/britain-uncovered-survey-attitudes-beliefs-britons-2015
Buce Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Yeah because that's just as bad as wishing death on people isn't it? Is that a statement or a question?
Webbo Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 You realize those two extremes are not the only options, right? There are points of view in between. You're the one calling people sycophants.
Strokes Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Tbf I wish death on loads of people, and I still consider myself to be caring old sole.
bovril Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Meh. Choose your battles. Plenty of countries that overthrew their royal family and replaced them with something worse. As a head of state she does her 'job' pretty well.
The Railway Man Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Is that a statement or a question? Rhetorical question. But I'll leave you and your tin foil hat alone.

The Railway Man Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Brainwashed proles think as they are told to think. We;ll you've read 1984 so at least you can't be brainwashed, it's all the right wing media (that sometimes tell us to vote for the more left wing option)
Buce Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 You're the one calling people sycophants. And you view that as hate?
Webbo Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 And you view that as hate? Was it meant as a compliment?

Buce Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Was it meant as a compliment? Of course not. It's not hate either, more like scornful pity.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 I've no idea why, but for some reason when people say you can't be hating on the Queen because she's an old lady, I'm reminded of the Thatcher era campaign by sections of the Conservative Party to help Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet escape justice largely on the grounds that it was harassing an old man, which was clearly more important than all the torture and the people that got murdered

Wishing her to die though just because you don't like it? Pretty vile, although mentioning Thatcher I imagine it's the same sort of people who celebrated that old ladies death as well.

The same govt refused to extradite an IRA murderer to Germany because she was pregnant.

That was fun.
Alf Bentley Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, Alf. I don't have any evidence that you are not a 9-legged rhinoceros in pink frilly knickers sipping pina coladas on the planet Venus. But I exercise judgment of the evidence available to me and suspect that you're a middle-aged bloke who likes football, may live in Oadby and may or may not look like a Munch version of Homer Simpson. The media have been prepared to criticise the royals, either via proper journalism or sales-led sensationalism: exposés on Charles' interventions in architectural planning, letters to ministers & marital infidelity; criticism of the Queen & royal family for their response to Diana's death; criticism of Andrew's allegedly dodgy business connections, sexual liaisons & profligate spending; calls for the Queen to pay more tax; just today William was responding to criticism that he doesn't perform enough royal duties. The Queen expresses certain very general views publicly and odd snippets have emerged suggesting that she wanted Scotland to stay in the UK, that she has had a bit of friction with certain PMs. The evident criticism of the royals for other things and the lack of criticism of political intervention by the Queen suggests to me that she doesn't try to influence politics to any significant extent. Otherwise, I think we'd hear about it - because some media outlets are serious professionals and others would publish anything vaguely defensible that earned them a few quid.

And all exposed by the royal loving press who were supposed to be brainwashing us into being totally subservient to them.........
Samilktray Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 More bothered about me Nan getting to 90 but happy birthday and fair play.
Rincewind Posted 20 April 2016 Posted 20 April 2016 I am not anti-Queenie but I am against what she represents. A Republic would be no better though. Is it Holland where the Royal family live quite normally? No palaces and big country estates and some of them even use bikes as transport. Support the Queen and immediate family by all means but not third cousins removed as well. That is my main gripe. I do not wish her dead but I will not mourn her passing any more than any other stranger has no insight in the world outside their own. My mother is a couple of years younger and I care more about her health more.
Rincewind Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Who is the Queen? When all is said and done. A nice old lady who wears nice hats And in life has had a decent run. Her servants do the weekly shopping. She watches Corrie when at home. And maybe like you she reads the Sun Whilst seated on the throne.
J.Lisemore Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 She's just another human being like the rest of us. Well done to her for reaching 90.
Robin JD Popley Posted 21 April 2016 Posted 21 April 2016 Happy 90th Birthday Your Majesty. God Save The Queen.
